Urban Reign - Strategy Guide (Page 06)
Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Urban Reign - Strategy Guide (Page 06).
Mission 70: Finishing Touches
Opponent(s): Napalm 99 and Douglas McKinzie
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- The final mission of this chapter pits you against the opponents of
your last two missions: Napalm 99 and Douglas McKinzie. Use both of
the above-stated strategies at your discretion. Because they are in
a team together, they are considerably harder to take down. Try to
get rid of Napalm 99 first. McKinzie is much easier to take down if
you have a partner to help you do the job. Bring a partner with a
Status Effect SPA of either Concentration Up or Super Armor for the
easiest win to this difficult mission.
Mission 71: A New Foe
Opponent(s): Masa, Riki, and Yan Jun
Description: (Partner: Shun Ying Lee)
- Take the enemy down while protecting Shun Ying.
Strategy:
- The chinese men entering Ragtown, Green Harbor, are members of the
gangs known as the Tin-Jiao and the Mushin-Kai. Get acquainted with
your new opponents because, like the Outlaws and Shadow Platoon, you
see them a lot throughout many missions. Eliminate them by using
Double Team attacks and SPA moves. These guys are more proficient at
deflecting and dodging than all other opponents that you have faced
thus far.
Mission 72: Killers
Opponent(s): Hiro, Masa, and Ryuji
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- You get to take on some members of the Mushin-Kai here. What is their
specialty? Using samurai swords, of course. Yeah, I know. Those guys
are very cheap when they get to use samurai swords. Still, they are
not too terrible. Use the dash attack to the lower body (the slide
kick) against all of them and follow up with striking combo attacks.
Also, use the Up SPA move to knock those swords out of their hands.
If you can get that far, deal with them as you did in the latter
mission.
Mission 73: Vicious Steel
Opponent(s): Sha Ying Lai, Yan Jun Kwan, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- These three are part of the Tin-Jiao. They specialize in Kung Fu
martial arts, so expect a tougher fight than against the Mushin-Kai.
For the greatest ease, use the above-stated strategy for knocking
their weapons out of their hands. The Tin-Jiao use the Chinese
Saber as their weapon of choice, and they are very proficient at
using it to disarm opponents quickly. Take that advantage away for
a slightly easier fight. Having a partner really helps out in this
particular mission. Go for Double Team attacks, if anything.
Mission 74: Tit-for-Tat
Opponent(s): Jack Bain, Ray Cooper, Riki, and Samuel Taylor
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- The Shadow Platoon along with one member of the Mushin-Kai does
not make for a tough mission. Deal with the Shadow Platoon
accordingly (I'm sure their attack patterns are very familiar to
you by now). Riki is best dealt with alongside a partner, but he
is easy enough to beat through any means. Try Up SPA moves and
grapple his lower body for the best results.
Mission 75: Storming In
Opponent(s): FK-71, GD-05, Masa, and PT-22
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take Masa down.
Strategy:
- Another mediocre gang with one member of the Mushin-Kai. This
mission should actually be easier than the latter mission, so
you can use any strategy you like. You'll find, obviously, that
the Outlaws are pretty much the same as they always have been.
Get used to fighting members of the Mushin-Kai, however.
Mission 76: The Dogs
Opponent(s): Dillan Anderson, Douglas McKinzie, and Samuel Taylor
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take the enemy down while protecting your partner.
Strategy:
- Traditional Shadow Platoon fight, except McKinzie tags along
this time around. Stick close to your partner and use Double
Team attacks on McKinzie (a strategy similar to that of Mission
70: Finishing Touches). Take down Anderson and Taylor in the
manner that you would normally.
Mission 77: Collusion
Opponent(s): Sha Ying Lai and Yan Jun Kwan
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take the enemy down while protecting your partner.
Strategy:
- Bring a tough partner (like Glen or Park) and you shouldn't have
any worries about protecting your partner. Get rid of Sha Ying
Lai quickly and deal with Yan Jun Kwan with your partner. He'll
go down with relative ease.
Mission 78: The Monster
Opponent(s): Golem
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take Golem down.
Strategy:
- This mission is the first of three (yes, three in total) fights
that pits you and a partner (thankfully) against Golem, the
personal bodyguard of the leader of the Tin-Jiao. Since these
missions pit you against Golem (and only Golem), you at least
have the one-on-one "format" going for you. He'll start the fight
in a similar manner as Napalm 99 in Mission 68: Sneak Attack.
Leave Golem up to your partner so as to distract Golem. Go for
a lower body grapple from behind Golem to deal some decent damage.
His lowest stat is his Lower Body Endurance, so exploit that dis-
advantage to the fullest. Double Team attacks also work really
well against Golm, so try for these whenever you have the chance.
Don't get used to this strategy, however. This is the first and
ONLY mission that you get to fight Golem (by himself) with a
partner.
Mission 79: Back in Town
Opponent(s): Lin Fong Lee, Sha Ying Lai, Yan Jun Kwan, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take Lin Fong's men down.
Strategy:
- The leader of the Tin-Jiao finally makes his appearance. It is a man
named Lin Fong Lee, and he is Shun Ying Lee's younger brother, if you
haven't figured it out already. Take down Lin Fong's men (like the
description says) and leave the fight at that. There is no need to
take on Lin Fong just yet. You'll only make this mission harder to
finish than it needs to be.
Mission 80: Watchdogs
Opponent(s): DR-88, GD-05, and Napalm 99
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take the enemy down within the Time Limit.
Strategy:
- This mission is kind of like Mission 76: The Dogs (by name, anyway).
You get to deal with two Outlaws and their leader. Use any Napalm
99 strategy from Mission 68 or 70. Clean up the remnants of any
Outlaws still standing.
Mission 81: City Under Siege
Opponent(s): Douglas McKinzie and Riki
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- Here is a rather easy mission. Take down McKinzie AFTER beating down
Riki. Both will have their weapons (the Hunter Knife and the Samurai
Sword, respectively), so knock those out of their hands. Only two
opponents here, so having a partner makes this mission an even fight.
Mission 82: Fists of Iron
Opponent(s): Sha Ying Lai, Yan Jun Kwan, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- Another version of Mission 73: Vicious Steel. Use a similar strategy
as Mission 73's, and be wary of their saber combo attacks. Knocking
those weapons out of their hands should be the first thing on your
agenda for this mission and any others reminiscent of Mission 82.
Mission 83: Limbering Up
Opponent(s): Hiro, Riki, and Ryuji
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- More Mushin-Kai to take down. They all get their swords, so be
careful, just as you were in the latter mission. Their swords are
swung noticeably slower than the Tin-Jiao's sabers, so use their
sluggishness to your advantage. They DO hurt more (when hit, of
course) than the Chinese Sabers, so dodge their swings as best as
you can. Again, knock the swords away and lay waste to these
three with Double Team attacks and SPA moves.
Mission 84: Revenge
Opponent(s): Napalm 99 and Sha Ying Lai
Description: (Partner: Chris Bowman)
- Take the enemy down while protecting Chris.
Strategy:
- This chapter is full of altered versions of earlier missions.
Mission 84 is much like Mission 81: City Under Siege, so you may
take down these two in a similar manner as Mission 81. Try the
Napalm 99 strategy for Mission 68: Sneak Attack in order to get
rid of Napalm 99. Sha Ying Lai will not be able to hang against
the likes of Brad Hawk and any one of his ten different partners.
Mission 85: Pursuit
Opponent(s): Lin Fong Lee
Description: (No Partner)
- Take Lin Fong down.
Strategy:
- Yet another mission that cries out for a direct strategy. He will,
like Napalm 99, McKinzie, and Golem, start the fight out by using
his Status Effect SPA move. It gives him the Concentration Up
Effect, so try to stick to deflecting and dodging his attacks until
it wears off. When it wears off, you may try to mix your attacks up
with some grapples, but he is likely to deflect most of your attacks.
Deflecting and grappling his upper or lower body as a follow-up move
is a good tactic to keep in mind for this fight. From what I have
heard on the Message Boards for Urban Reign, Lin Fong Lee
is pretty easy to beat, and I totally agree that he is overrated, in
terms of difficulty. Still, try to be wary of his abilities. He may
be overrated, but he is definitely worthy of his skills as a fighter.
Mission 86: Return of the Monster
Opponent(s): Golem
Description: (No Partner)
- Take Golem down.
Strategy:
- This is the second mission that pits you against Golem (by himself),
only this time, you get no partner. He also has an axe (though it's
rather small for him. Perhaps a large battle axe would be more
appropriate?). Since he will use his Status Effect SPA, avoid him
until it wears off. Then you may proceed by knocking the axe from
his hands. Pick it up and use it on him constantly. He will probably
dodge some of your swings, but he is not too proficient at dodging or
deflecting to begin with. The axe will deal the majority of your
damage against Golem. If you don't want to (or can't) get the axe to
use on Golem, you can always use lower body grapples to weaken Golem.
This will make putting down this behemoth much easier.
Mission 87: Capture
Opponent(s): Yan Jun Kwan
Description: (No Partner)
- Bust up Yan Jun's lower body.
Strategy:
- An overly easy mission to say the least. Use lower body strikes (and
not too many grapples) to bust up his lower body quickly. He'll be
on the ground in no time. I happened to finish this mission in under
30 seconds, actually...
Mission 88: Grilling
Opponent(s): Dillan Anderson, Sha Ying Lai, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- Another fight in Shun Ying's restaurant. Approach this mission like
you did on Mission 71: A New Foe. No surprises here, so use any
strategies that you have been implementing all along in other
related missions for the finish.
Mission 89: An Unexpected Call
Opponent(s): Hiro, Jack Bain, Masa, and Ryuji
Description: (No Partner)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- This is where the game, in many players' opinions, gets very
difficult. You have no partner to help you out for many of the
following missions. To top it all off, all of the Mushin-Kai
involved in this mission (in addition to Bain) have their respective
weapons. Start the fight by attacking Bain to your right. Knock him
into the corner of the street and pound away at him until he goes
down. Use your Neutral SPA move to keep the Mushin-Kai from attacking
you from behind. Then, go for any of the Mushin-Kai. As always, knock
their weapons away from their hands for more ease in finishing the
mission. It is not uncommon for players to retry this mission several
times before finally finishing it. I have had to retry this one myself
quite a few times before finally finishing it.
Mission 90: The Trap
Opponent(s): Sha Ying Lai, Yan Jun Kwan, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (No Partner)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- Again, no partner here. Use your Up SPA move often to deal considerable
damage to these three, and also to knock away their weapons. Go for Ye
Wei Cheng first. After taking him down, take his Chinese Saber and use
it on Yan Jun Kwan. Yan Jun Kwan's knife attacks come out faster than
the saber swings, but if you time it right, the saber will strike Yan
Jun Kwan before you get hit. Keep it up to make him drop his Butterfly
Knife. Take down Sha Ying Lai last with any weapon or strategy. Since
he'll probably be alone at this point in the mission, Sha Ying Lai will
be rather easy to eliminate.
Mission 91: The Monster Released
Opponent(s): Golem
Description: (No Partner)
- Take Golem down.
Strategy:
- The third Golem mission of the three. You know how I said keep Mission
68: Sneak Attack's strategy fresh in your mind? Now is the time to use
that strategy (to some degree). You fight Golem in the exact same place
as you did against Napalm 99 in Mission 68: Sneak Attack. Remember to
use the axe, if you can get it, and keep away from him when he is in his
Super Armor state. Being that this is the third time facing Golem one on
one, his fighting style should be one that you are familiar with by now.
Mission 92: The Escape
Opponent(s): Hiro, Masa, Riki, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (Partner: Shun Ying Lee)
- Take the enemy down while protecting Shun Ying.
Strategy:
- This mission is another pain in the a**. You must protect Shun Ying Lee
while taking down the four opponents given. To start the mission, run
and dash attack the lower body of the two Mushin-Kai surrounding Shun
Ying. Then, stay near her for the remainder of the mission. Use Double
Team attacks to eliminate each opponent, one by one. The only difficulty
with this mission, again, is keeping Shun Ying Lee alive. Her stats
(defense-wise) are very low for a four-star character. Once you eliminate
some of the foes around her, your fight becomes that much easier.
Mission 93: Little Brother
Opponent(s): Golem and Lin Fong Lee
Description: (Partner: Shun Ying Lee)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- This is a much tougher mission than most of the other ones that you have
faced thus far. To win this fight, you will want to get rid of Golem
first. Since this is going to be your fourth encounter with the behemoth,
use the same strategies for defeating Golem. In short, use the axe to cut
him down. Then, help Shun Ying Lee shut her little brother down for good.
Try to get Lin Fong's saber if he drops it. It deals out a good amount of
damage. NEVER get trapped with Lin Fong and Golem alone. Re-start the
mission if this happens. You are likely to get your a** handed to you in
this situation.
Mission 94: Enemy Stronghold
Opponent(s): Douglas McKinzie, DR-88, and PT-22
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- At this point, there is no real reason to give any new strategy against
these guys. You've been fighting all of them since the beginning of
Chapter 2 (Mission 31: Chaos). Use any of the earlier-stated strategies
to your discretion. You should be familiar with every opponent (except
for two) by now.
Mission 95: Forcing Through
Opponent(s): Ray Cooper, Samuel Taylor, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- Again, see Mission 94 for strategy suggestions. If you are at a loss when
it comes to what to do against these guys, go for SPA moves and Double
Team attacks. Take their weapons, if you can, and put them down hard.
Mission 96: Incursion
Opponent(s): Sha Ying Lai, Yan Jun Kwan, and Ye Wei Cheng
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- Approach this mission with strategies similar to those of Missions 73
(Vicious Steel), 82 (Fists of Iron), and 90 (The Trap). Use their
weapons, if you can, again, and go for Double Team attacks, as always.
That's what you're partner (partially) is there for!! This is the last
mission that pits you against the Lin Fong's Tin Jiao.
Mission 97: Disemboweling
Opponent(s): Hiro, Masa, Riki, and Ryuji
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy:
- The last mission that pits you against the Mushin-Kai is not that easy
to finish. Take down each opponent one by one and never leave your back
open to attack without any SPA move ready to be performed. They get
their trademark Katanas again, so you must be careful not to get hit in
excess. Try to get their swords and cut them down for the easiest win.
Make sure to bring along a partner with the Concentration Up Status
Effect or Super Armor Status Effect to make the mission even easier.
Mission 98: Monster Slayer
Opponent(s): Golem and Napalm 99
Description: (Partner Allowed)
- Take everyone down.
Strategy: *The following is a strategy from Beerky.
Note that this strategy is for getting an S rank on Free Mode
but the fighting strategies still apply.
-"I got an S on with Brad and McKenzie on Easy in 56 seconds. There are a
lot of missions you can get an S on the Easy level, but you REALLY need
to get Max combo or as close to as humanly possible. Another important
trick is that you need to avoid the big badass that is powered-up. They
seem to stagger that, like 1 will be powered-up while the other is
getting pummeled. Also, utilize slide attacks on this one, it helps to
start off a combo, and you can do a lot of stuff after you've popped
them up (including that super combo SPA of Brad's, because they can't
counter with their SPA in air)."
- One other thing to note is that, like other missions with Golem, he'll
use his Combination Status Effect SPA (Power Up / Super Armor). Try to
have your partner (you DID bring one along, didn't you?) take both of
them on, until Golem's Status Effect SPA wears off. Alternatively, you
could try to deflect and dodge his strikes and grapples. However, if
you mess up, you will take heavy damage. The worst-case scenario would
be both Napalm 99 and Golem using their Status Effect SPAs at the same
time (or at a simiilar time). IF YOU THINK THIS MISSION IS AN EASY ONE,
try it WITHOUT any partner. My twin brother beat this mission with
Douglas McKinzie (no MAX stats) on VERY HARD (in about 43 seconds)!!
Mission 99: Closing In
Opponent(s): Shinkai
Description: (No Partner)
- Take Shinkai down.
Strategy:
- This IS the last boss of the game, in my opinion. You'll see why I say
this when you get to Mission 100. Anyway, Shinkai, the leader of the
Mushin-Kai, is your opponent for this fight. He uses his own custom
Katana for this fight. DON'T EVEN TRY TO GET HIS WEAPON. For some reason,
it is very difficult to get Shinkai to drop his Katana. Be mindful of all
his Katana attacks. Hiro, Masa, Riki, and Ryuji couldn't perform all of
the highly damaging sword attacks that Shinkai performs. His SPA Katana
moves all deal out nearly 50% damage to your Health Gauge. Furthermore,
those attacks destroy body regions in an instant. Part of the reason for
this is the fact that he always uses his Power Up Status Effect SPA at
the beginning of the match. Stay in a defensive position and deflect his
attacks. ONLY go for grapples and/or strikes when you have the chance.
His regular SPA attacks hurt as well, and he tends to save his SPA until
he is under attack. In short, he is capable of countering your own SPA
more effectively than any other opponent. I believe this fight to be a
real test of your mettle as Brad Hawk. Mission 99 is not impossible, but
it is a great challenge for most players.
Mission 100: The Mastermind
Opponent(s): William Bordin
Description: (No Partner)
- Take Bordin down.
Strategy:
- At first, I thought, how the heck am I supposed to get to hit Bordin???
Later, I found out that all you have to do is keep on pressing Square
repeatedly to dodge all of his gun shots. Once he is out of bullets, just
run up to him and hit him a few times. He WILL go down in about two or
three hits. A pathetic "last boss" to say the least. My fastest take down
of Bordin was TWO SECONDS!!!!
*Mythril Wyrm also emailed me a much quicker way to approach this mission:
-"Instead of dodging his gunshots until he runs out of ammo, press R1 to
target him and dash towards him as soon as the battle begins. When he
fires at you, do a dodge roll. If you time it properly, you'll dodge the
bullet and be in a perfect position to attack him when you come out of the
roll."
END OF STORY MODE:
- CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have finished the Story Mode of Urban Reign. What
you unlock for your exploits is listed below. However, I highly doubt
that you unlocked everything on the first playthrough of Urban Reign, so
keep at it to unlock everything and check out the other modes as well!!!
*After playing through all 100 missions, you will unlock Free Mode and
Challenge Mode. For more information on these modes, refer to section 8:
Game Modes.

14). In-Game Codes
- As good a game as Urban Reign is, there are still some complaints that I
have about it. First of all, there is no two player co-op mode, and in
a fighting game with so many characters, you would think there is some
sort of code that unlocks all of them right away for you. I know that I
am not alone here. The Urban Reign message boards have quite a
few people who are disappointed with the lack of a two player co-op mode
among other things. Well, a while (a LONG while) after this game was
released, someone finally found some codes for Urban Reign. At first, I
thought they were fake. I printed them out and took them home to try out.
Needless to say, Urban Reign just got even better. There are quite a few
codes (all of which I will list below for your convenience). Some of them
are codes that only those who can't (or don't want to) finish the Story
Mode would use. Others, however, just make the game more enjoyable and
maybe even easier!
- To activate any of the following cheats, simply input the button commands
listed next to the desired cheat. This can only be done at the Urban
Reign title screen (before the loading screen where you choose which file
you want to load).
- If you entered the code correctly, you will see an exclamation mark in the
upper left or upper right corner of the title screen and hear a sound as
confirmation of the correct code entry.
- Most of these codes work. I know that some of them do not seem to work,
so if anyone has the correct set of buttons for a particular code, send
it in so I can correct it.
All Fighters Unlocked: R1, R2, X, Left, Right, Square, Square, Square,
Square, L1, Square, Triangle, O
All Weapons Unlocked: L1, R1, X, X, Triangle, R1, R1, Triangle, Square,
X, R1
Free Mode Unlocked: L1, R1, Left, Left, Left, Left, Left, Left, L2, Up,
Triangle, Triangle, Right
Challenge Mode Unlocked: L2, R2, Triangle, Right, Left, Up, Up, Right,
R2, R2, R2, O
Same Fighter Select (Multiplayer Mode): R2, R2, Square, Square, X, R2,
L1, Up, Down, Up, Up, Up, Circle
Co-op Play Unlocked (Story/Free Modes): L2, R2, O, O, Triangle, L2, R1,
O, Triangle, O
*Free Mode Play with Initial Weapons: L1, R1, L2, R2, L2, O, R2, Up, R2,
R2, O, X, R1
*This means that characters who have initial weapons (like Shinkai and his
Katana) will start any Free Mode mission with their initial weapons.
