Free Mode ** ******************************************************************************* In Free Mode you can select any stage to play. You can only select those already cleared in Story Mode. 2-player co-op is available in this mode as well. You can complete most missions, and obtain most items and weapons in Free Mode, though I prefer doing all that in Story Mode. Refer to the Story Mode section for each stage. ******************************************************************************* ** 4. Survival Mode ** ******************************************************************************* In Survival Mode you play through an indoor castle stage and attempt to set records for floors cleared, KOs, gold collected, etc. Due to the Auto Formation System, the stage maps will change each time you play, except on the Gold Rush map. There are 3 courses in Survival Mode. Gold Rush- Gather as much gold as possible to power up your character. Abyss- Head down to the depths of the earth, where a mystery character awaits. Tower- Attempt to clear as many floors as possible within the time given. These are the Survival Mode Rules for Gold Rush. - Difficulty cannot be selected. - The time limit is 5 minutes. - When your life meter reaches 0 the game is over. - Any gold collected is saved for use after completion. - You can upgrade your weapon's stats, rename your weapon, increase your item's effects, and buy the Golden Rune. (Note: You can only alter your first 4 weapon's stats and name. You can alter your fifth only after you get your sixth weapon.) - Any unspent gold is aved for next time. The entire map is already displayed for you, so there is no need to equip the Lantern. Saddles will also have no use here. These are the Survival Mode Rules for Abyss and Tower. - Difficulty cannot be selected. - The time limit for Abyss is 60 minutes and 20 minutes for Tower. (Time can be increased by accomplishing different missions given to you on different floors.) - When your life meter reaches 0 the game is over. - Any acquired weapons/items can be used in the other modes. - There is a rest period every 3 floors where your life meter is restored and you can save the game. It is a good idea to have the Lantern equipped so you can see the layout of each floor. And unequip any saddles since they won't help at all in Survival Mode. ******************************************************************************* ** 5. VS Mode ** ******************************************************************************* In VS Mode you go against another player or the computer. There are six VS Mode stages, each with their own victory conditions. ------ -Duel- ------ Defat your opponent in this test of valor! -A one-on-one duel. -The battle is over when one player's life reaches 0. ------ -Sumo- ------ Force your opponent out of the ring! -Famous officers are worth more points. -Landing outside the ring is considered a loss. -Player is given infinite lives. ------------ -Gatekeeper- ------------ Protect your base while your troops attack the enemy! -Points are given for each soldier that breaks through. -Allied officers can come and assist you. -Player is given infinite lives. ---------- -Showdown- ---------- Eliminate the entire enemy army! -Defeating an enemy officer revives an allied one. -Player is given infinite lives. --------- -Pursuit- --------- Be the first to capture Goemon! -Gather information and find the real Goemon. -Player is given infinite lives. -------- -Strike- -------- Be the first to defeat 1000 enemies! -Famous officers are worth more points. -The recommended area is easy to clear. -Player is given infinite lives. ******************************************************************************* ** 6. Challenge Mode ** ******************************************************************************* In Challenge Mode you do the training exercises in New Officer Mode and try to set the record for them. There are 7 exercises. Melee- Defeat as many enemies as you can Musou- Defeat enemies using only the Musou Attack Combo- Execute the longest combo attack possible Archery- Defeat oncoming enemies using Ranged Attacks Deflect- Defeat enemies by deflecting arrows onto them Burst- Reach the destination point as quickly as possible Riding- Tear through the racecourse on your steed ------ -Tips- ------ ------- -Melee- ------- Keep hacking and slashing away. Whenever you fill your Musou Gauge and there is a substantial amount of enemies around, use your Musou. You can refill it pretty quick and most Strike Ninjas will drop a Hannya so your Life and Musou will be refilled and you can repeat. ------- -Musou- ------- Don't waste anytime. After each time you use your Musou almost immediately pick up another Musou Sake and use it again. ------- -Combo- ------- If you don't have a weapon where you can get a lot of attacks on at once or are having difficulty, then use your third charge attack to daze the enemy and continue attacking while they are dazed for a combo. --------- -Archery- --------- Early on, after you shoot one of the approaching enemies, aim your bow over to another spot where an enemy will appear so you'll have an easy time locking onto them. And later on when multiple enemies start appearing, don't bother trying to get perfect aim, you'll kill them even if you hit their foot. Just move the bow around and shoot as soon as an enemy is in the way. --------- -Deflect- --------- Time your attacks carefully. Block for a while if you need to get a feel for the speed of the arrows. When your life goes down keep blocking and unleashing a Musou to hit all oncoming arrows. Be cautious about musketeers as you cannot deflect bullets. ------- -Burst- ------- The map for Burst is always the same and it mimics the second floor on Osaka Castle. Don't bother fighting any enemies as that wastes time. Just run through and avoid their attacks. Once you find a suitable route to take, continue with that same route each time you do this. I myself prefer taking the left and moving up from there. -------- -Riding- -------- Jump over the barricades or go around them. When there is a group of enemies in front of, jump into them, but don't go out of your way to do so. When you get to the point where you are locked in that area, get off your horse to kill the enemies if you need to. Be careful of the mines, but they shouldn't pose much of a problem, but don't get too close to them.
