Version 1.07

Author: The Crimson Phantom

Aka: Jason L'Heureux

Just a little FYI, I do not yet know everything about this game or even close
to everything... It will take me a bit of time to fully master this game
(especially with the CRAZY hours I've been putting in at work lately).

Personal To do list:
... Fusing, cover mana, Extra Stages. Go into the ultimate weapon, and
the ultimate leveling strategy.

Help Wanted Section: -- expires September 31th 2004 (one month from last
update).

Got some thing for the ambitious out there.

1.) Find out the LEVEL or FORMULA for which the Random dungeon keeper gets
harder dungeons.
2.) Find out the percent reduction in the cost of forging/fusing/creating
when the character who is doing it levels up.
3.) Find out the percent/number of exp the old man gives you after a battle
(its probally % of the exp you gained total modified by his level)
4.) Find out the LEVELS at which each character gets their new NATURAL
abilities. (this means they CANNOT be fused, or equipped with items when
you check them).
5.) Have a COMPLETE list of the secret abilities characters get from holding
equipment.

More to come...

Version 1.00

Created September 1st 2004 on the english version of Phantom Brave.
All data for this faq has been derived from one of main two sources,
the game itself and the instruction manual which comes with the game. Will
probally start on a walkthrough/story script section in the future. This will
be my 7th faq on this account to date. Faq is set to 79 characters per line
and was created using notepad. At this stage expect an update at least once
a week until it nears completion, once it seems mostly complete it might never
get another update. Beware the walkthrough as it will contain spoilers
once I get it done. Right now this is VERY much a work in progress...
I have spent 2 hours thus far on it... Expect by the time it is up on the site
for a major update to occur with a lot more stuff (but I am working 8+ hours
each day so that will cut into playing with my new Phantom Brave and Star
Ocean 3 games).

Version 1.01

September 3rd 2004.

Turns out they needed me to work at 5:30 AM on friday so I pulled an all
nighter adding a fair bit to this... Sigh there goes the alarm... Oh well
its good to be the boss right?. Doubled the faq's size (which isn't that
hard to do at this early stage anyways).

Version 1.02

September 4th 2004.

Have finished a LOT of the found items from battle fields. Their abilities
etc. Check it out in 8.10.

Version 1.03

September 5th 2004.

Added a good chunk of weapon abilities see 8.00. More of the walkthrough.
Added stuff in 4.00 Status. Added most of the protections, probally a few
odd ones I've yet to encounter. Added a LOT of weapon abilities... 5 or so
more field items. Hero abilities.

Version 1.04

September 7th 2004

Many more chapters, a few more field items, protections, and regular item
abilities.

version 1.05

September 9th 2004

Pyrieal is to be thanked for the titles section 7.00. Completed the main
game walkthrough... Added more abilities, protections, and the like. Started
on the Extra maps.

Version 1.06

September 11th 2004

Started to compile the list of monsters, their abilities, characters
and their abilities. Also stared on the secret abilities of characters.
Probally my final update for quite some time, simply because I am getting
bored with the insane leveling of everyone for abilities and the like.
And I'm going to start Star Ocean 3...

Version 1.07

September 16th 2004

Nearly completed Star Ocean 3... Taking a bit of time off that one to polish
things here. Added Prinny, Golem abilities. Started on the DungeonMonk
section... all about the types of levels he can make and it all explained.

I do not mind game questions, if you are reporting an error let me know I will
double check my work there. If you are reporting a spelling error forget about
it unless it seriously alters the meaning of the sentence. If you wish to
e-mail me about a game question, please put in the subject which game it is
referring to... I will also field questions to people wishing to break into
faq writing.

If you have a bug to report and add to this send it along but I'll need 2
reports of the same bug or to have it confirmable by myself.

If you e-mail me and its got something attached its going to be deleted
without hesitation. Sorry but my virus scan/firewall is set to destroy
e-mail attachments. If your sending me something to contribute to this in
an e-mail make sure to title your e-mail contributions or something similar,
and just put whatever it is in plain text. I have it set to block out stuff
without acceptable subjects (to put faq in the subject) unless its someone
I know.

*******************************************************************************
0.01 Common General Questions about Faqs

1. Why does the faq not fill up the entire screen when I look at it?

A: This is because it has been set to 79 characters, this is so that people
who like to view BIG text will set the faq fit their screen nicely.

2. What can I, the private individual, use the faq for or do with it.

A: You can pretty much do whatever you want for individual, personal use. You
can save it to your computer, print it at your leisure, cut out little parts
to save or print from your computer...

Basically as long as you don't post it online without my permission, use it
for any profit related thing, or plagiarise sections of it for use in your
guide (Yes that happens, yes it happens way to much, and Yes I do take legal
action if the dispute isn't solved promptly).

3. Can I post this on my website, forum, or other non-profit free site?

A: For the most part I never deny any site where the material can be accessed
in its unaltered form for free, the only case was for a site that had 23 popup
ad's everytime you went anywhere (and that is because I dislike them) simply
send me a request at my e-mail (lifeguard1234@hotmail.com) that doesn't look
like spam or have an attachment to it and I will most likly say that it is
fine.

4. Is it ok for me to e-mail you about a question I have regarding this game?

A: Yes by all means if you feel that the answer isn't clear or you have trouble
I have no problem with answering e-mails about that.

5. Can I contribute in any way, shape, or form to this faq?

A: Yes check out the help wanted section... If their is something there that
you can help fill out then by all means (Help wanted section is for things that
I know I will be getting to last, that I simply cannot figure out on my
lonesome [and that has been known to happen], or that have complex and
numerous parts to them).

6. Can you mail me a copy of your save file for a game, get the thing to
allow saves to be put and taken from online sources?

A: Short answer: no...
   Long answer: no... Sorry.

1.00 General Rules of SRPG gameplay

As a srpg (strategy role playing game) veteren, here are a few golden rules to
follow in any strategy game.

Golden Rule: TALK TO EVERYONE, Talk to them everytime a chapter changes,
talk to them if you are stuck and cannot progress. Talk to them often,
talk to them multiple times. This will either reward you with the ability to
progress storywise again, or possibly with nifty items...

Rule one: Focus fire, have every member of your party focus on killing at least
one enemy per turn... Even if you have a character who will deal a 200 damage
attack and the enemy only has 1 health left, unless that attack would kill
another enemy 100% of the time itself use it to finish that opponent off.
The reason for this is that it will limit how much damage your enemy can do
to you per round, because if a unit is dead it cannot hurt you any more. Also
that unit may not heal/assist others, and will make the enemy turn that much
shorter.

Rule two: With the exception of boss units focus on taking out the units in
this order: Mages first then Cleric's or healers second and then the strongest
fighter on down (unless the strongest fighter is a boss in which case avoid
them, as they tend to have enough health above their fodder units that you
would take more damage fighting them all). The reason for this is that
mages tend to have area of effect attacks that usually deal a lot of damage
and they also tend to have low health and so will go down quickly. Clerics
must die second as they tend to prevent their allies from dying as quickly
which prolongs your suffering. After this fighters are the ones to knock out
starting with whoever can do the most damage to you (not always the one with
the highest health). The reason you avoid taking out a boss asap, is because
typically they have items worth stealing, and are a lot easier to take out
once their support net is removed.

Rule three: Most strategy based rpg's will have the enemy with stronger forces
than you have at almost any given battle... So take it slow work from the
outside in... ignore any target which is outside your reach obviously, hitting
someone for something is typically better than doing NOTHING at all. Unless
in the RARE instance where defend will work in your favor. This of course
can easily be overcome with power leveling.

Rule four: BE AGGRESSIVE, defense doesn't really seem to exist, even if it
were to you should be attacking anyways.

Rule five: IF your unit is about to die or will definitely die next round and
you lack healing items, or the ability to escape, kamikaze, or use it to draw
the enemy away from your units or preferably away from their own... Divide
and conquer (just remember a pincer attack in a srpg is deadly).

Rule six: When the opportunity presents itself save, save often.

Rule seven: Honor is nice to have, but if your dead what good was it. Attack
your enemy with preference to behind, above, or the sides... in that order.
Try to avoid fighting below and to the front... Also try to avoid allowing the
enemy to hit you from behind, above, or the sides.

Rule eight: If you cannot attack/kill an enemy you might as well try something.
Doing nothing for a turn is almost counterproductive, unless you are baiting
the enemy to you.

Rule nine: This game likes SPEED, it makes your turns happen faster, use this
it is in my opinion second only to attack, and many would argue much much more
important.

Rule ten: If you cannot reach and attack your enemy this turn, and it is at
all possible park yourself JUST out of their reach so that they move towards
you and you can get an attack in next round without giving them a free hit.

Rule eleven: The AI (artificial incompetence) of games tends to make them want
to try to attack someone who is weak, either protect these weak individuals
or better yet use them as bait to draw enemies into positions where they are
exposed.

The game is divided into turns. Each characters turn is determined by their
speed value (their are a few exceptions such as ASH being able to immediatly
move after he has been summoned to the field). You can move, confine,
lift and throw and STILL attack. But if you attack you can no longer throw, you
will still be able to move and confine.

2.00 Walkthrough

Here you will find the walkthrough... Beforewarned I will try to not throw in
too many spoilers, but they will definatly be around. If you just want the
bare bones go here, do this speech go check out the spoiler free walkthrough
near the end of this faq.

**Note** The names of the new characters to your party may be different
than those listed, depending on if they have random generation or not.

I only list the characters which the game itself gives you, not those that
you yourself are able to create.

If I have ---> After a character's level it means that it is offering that
form of protection to other units. Making it a high value kill target.
