This is a comprehensive FAQ for the American version of One Piece Grand Battle for the Playstation 2. This game is based off the popular Japanese TV and manga series One Piece, which is the tale of Monkey D. Luffy's journey across the world's seas in search of the legendary treasure One Piece. Whoever can reach this treasure, hidden by the infamous pirate Gold D. Rodger, will obtain the title of King of the Pirates. The game remains very true to the series, so much so that they cut several characters and stages to keep pace with the English version of the show. The gameplay is a free movement 3D fighter in a style similar to Dreamcast's Power Stone series. ************* (sec101) FAQs ************* Q: Is there a way to get Eneru, Foxy, Aokiji, or Afro Luffy? A: No, they were removed for the English version. This is because the English show hasn't gotten to them yet. Thus, the last unlockable character is Crocodile Q: Why can't I unlock the C and D costumes? A: I had this same problem. Its rumored that if you haven't unlocked Shanks or Mihawk but have finshed training with the strawhats, you have to use the costume codes. Q: Why can't I unlock Ms Sunday's extra costumes? A: She doesn't yet count as part of the Straw Hat crew. This should be evident as they still call her by her code name. There are no C or D costumes for her in the American game. Q: How do you do the complete secret attack? A: The number of attacks is based on your health relative to your opponents. You can also do a full attack with the special attack Diamond. Q: I hate the American voices. Is there an option for Japanese voices? A: No. Deal with it. Q: Why won't _____ attack work in training. A: Chances are its a counter. Set the opponent to attack you, then perform the move. Q: How do you beat the Break Krieg's Armor minigame? A: This is actually a really simple minigame. All you have to do is beat Krieg like a normal fight. The trick is that his health bar is hidden and he always has a shield powerup. If you're really having trouble, try picking long range characters as your first two team members. Personally I think its easiest to beat him with Luffy. Constantly use his R1+O and you shouldn't have too hard of a time. Q: How do you do a complete Secret Attack? A: The level of the attack is relative to your health vs the opponents health. To do a full attack, you must be below half of their health, or you can use a diamond power up. Q: What the heck is Event Mode A: It is the Japanese version's Story Mode. Since the game doesn't have much of a story, I’ve added a little blip on each character’s back story. CHARACTER NOTES: All characters share the same basic move tree Guard Dash Hold R1 + direction of the enemy Kicking Boxes Guard Dash into a container. If the enemy is hit by a kicked box, they will be stunned and though the box will break, no items will be dropped. Super Guard Press R1 just as the enemies attack connects and you should flash and hear a tone. The enemy will be thrown backwards and your food gauge will fill slightly. Dreams of becoming King of the Pirates Fights with: Gomu Gomu no mi (Gum Gum Fruit) HOW TO OBTAIN: Available from the start Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Gum Gum Dance: Punch kick combo that finishes with a Gum Gum rapid fire from the air L1 + (X -> X)) Gum Gum Axe: Gum Gum Whip followed by a kick that reaches high into the air and slams down creating a shockwave Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Gum Gum Scythe -> Gum Gum Storm: Luffy grabs the ground stretches himself far back, and fires his body forward with arms outstretched like two scythes -> His final attack against Crocodile NOTES X or X+O -> X -> X (Gum Gum Rapid Fire) Continue pressing X to add more punches to the final attack. X or X+O -> X -> 0 (Gum Gum Double Barrel) Hold O to charge up the move. Fully charged ups damage from 150 to 350 O -> O -> X (Gum Gum Fireworks) Hold X to delay the attack. R1+X (Gum Gum Impact) Hold X to extend the distance Luffy extends his arm. O -> X (Gum Gum Quake) Repeatedly press X and Luffy will pluck his arm, making it snap back and forth for extra attacks. L1 + (X -> X)) (Gum Gum Axe) Hold X to charge up and hold the last kick in the air. Fully charge to double damage. His taunt takes off/puts on his hat Roronoa Zolo ----------------- 1st crew member of the Straw Hat Pirates. Dreams of becoming the world's strongest swordsman Fights with: Three Sword style. His swords are the Wadou Ichimonji (Straight Path to Harmony) which he inherited from Kuina, the Sandai Kitetsu (3rd Demon Splitter) which is a cursed sword, and the Yubashiri (Snow Step) which was given to him by a humbled sword shop owner, after seeing Zolo's dumb luck overcome the Sandai Kitetsu's curse, implying that the sword had chosen him to be its owner. HOW TO OBTAIN: Available from the start Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Triple Sword "Tri-Beast Requiem": Close range Crab Grab followed by Dragon Twister finished with Bull Charge. L1 + (X -> Triangle) Single Sword "Rising Phoenix": A large cyclone flies a short distance forward Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> []) Dual Sword "Rhino Rampage" -> Santoryu "Three Thousand Worlds: Two sword whirlwind surrounds Zolo -> Triple Sword Rising Phoenix followed by Single Sword Rhino Strike finishing with Three Thousand Worlds. NOTES X or X+O -> X -> X (Triple Sword "Oni Giri") Hold X to charge up the move. X or X+O -> X -> 0 (Triple Sword "Bull Charge") Repeatedly press O to add extra attacks. Dreams of making a complete map of the world. Fights with: Climtact three section staff which uses hot air, cold air, and electricity to create weather conditions. Great for parties HOW TO OBTAIN: Available from the start Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Squall: Charging staff attack finishing with It's Mine which knocks food out of the enemy. L1 + (X -> Triangle) Thunderbolt=Tempest: Fires multiple cold and hot bubbles. The last bubble is an electricity bubble and when it hits the others, a massive electrical storm appears. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Spring Windstorm -> Tornado=Tempest: Forward staff charge -> The attack used to defeat Ms Double Finger (Ms New Year's Eve) NOTES X or X+O -> X -> X (Heavy Storm) Repeatedly press X to add extra attacks. Usopp -------- Sniper/Liar of the Straw Hat Pirates. Dreams of becoming a warrior of the sea Fights With: Anything that can be fired from a sling shot HOW TO OBTAIN: Available from the start Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) My Special! Hammer Shooting Star: Jumps forward and slams an enormous slingshot into the ground and fires a hammer at high speed L1 + (X -> Triangle) My Special! Exploding Super Star: Flips from side to side while firing three explosive stars at a time. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Usopp Flee -> Usopp Pound: Runs away while dropping explosive stars behind him -> Smashes opponent with 5 Ton hammer (actually weighs 4.4 pounds, the 5 ton is just painted on) Used this same hammer to trick Mr 4 into thinking he was hurt. NOTES X or X+O -> X -> X (My Special! Triple Explode Stars) Press X repeatedly to fire two more Exploding Stars X or X+O -> X -> O (Heavy Storm) Press O an extra time to throw hammer Sanji ------ Cook of the Straw Hat Pirates. Dreams of finding All Blue, a sea which contains every fish in the world. Fights With: Only uses kicking techniques. He was taught by Zeff the Red Leg. HOW TO OBTAIN: Available from the start Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Leg o' Wham Supreme: Running kick combo that finishes with a super charged back kick. L1 + (X -> O) Double Layer Cake Kick: Flips forward and kicks enemy into the air with a two legged kick from a handstand. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> Triangle) Shoulder Shank Crank -> Prime Cut Kick Surprise: Jumps over enemy's head and kicks straight down -> A series of his trademark attacks that finishes with a powerful front kick that sends the enemy careening into a nearby ship, sinking both ship and enemy. NOTES X or X+O -> X -> 0 (Turnover Kick) Press O again to add a kick after the flip X or X+O -> O (Gut Stutter Suprise) Press O again to add a kick after the flip L1 + (X -> O) (Double Layer Cake Kick) Press O again to end flip sooner ****************** (sec302) BAD GUYS ****************** Buggy the Clown ---------------------- Captain of the Clown Pirates who has an old rivalry with Shanks. Fights With: Bara Bara no mi (Chop Chop Fruit) HOW TO OBTAIN: Beat any difficulty of Story Mode with all five original Straw Hat Pirates (Luffy, Zolo, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji) Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> X) Chop Chop Festival: Creates a giant whirlwind by separating and spinning all of his body parts at high speed. L1 + (X -> O) Chop Chop Big Chase: Detaches arms. They attack when ever he does. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Chop Chop Party -> Special Buggy Balls: Separates all his body parts and charges the enemy wildly -> Its not what you think. Buggy Balls are super powerful cannon balls emblazoned with buggy's logo, this attack has nothing to do with separating. Captain Kuro ----------------- Former Captain of the Cat Pirates. Faked his own death to live out a peaceful retirement Fights With: Giant Cat's Claws HOW TO OBTAIN: Beat any difficulty of Story Mode with all five original Straw Hat Pirates (Luffy, Zolo, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji) Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) All Means: Kuro slashes opponent as he runs past them, then dives back while spinning with his blades out stretched L1 + (X -> O) Hiding Cat: Become invisible while moving for 15 seconds Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> []) Sneaky Feet -> Out of the Bag Attack: Teleports next to opponent and slashes with both hands -> Kuro's Ultimate Stealth Walk attack, used while fighting Luffy. Kuro uses Stealth Walk to move faster than the eye can follow. Solid rock is shredded into pieces as he runs around the enemy slashing wildly. Don Krieg (Krieg is German for war. Blitzkrieg = Lightning war, Don Krieg = Don of War?) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Captain of a massive fleet of pirate ships. His entire fleet is decimated after he underestimated the dangers of the Grand Line. Fights With: A ridiculous amount of high tech weaponry hidden inside his armor. His only real skill is his raw power. HOW TO OBTAIN: Beat any difficulty of Story Mode with all five original Straw Hat Pirates (Luffy, Zolo, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji) Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Nail Shooter: Fires a barrage of harpoons from the guns hidden in his left shoulder shield L1 + (X -> Triangle) MH5: Puts on special mask and fires a gas bomb from the center of his shoulder shield. Enemies that walk into the explosion are poisoned, but Krieg is protected by the mask. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Wootz Dynamite Blow -> Simultaneous Strike: Uses Shield as a bludgeon in a short dash forward -> Krieg bounces the opponent into the air with a mighty blow from his diamond knuckles and shield. While the enemy is still air borne, he unleashes the full might of all of his hidden guns on them, and finishes them off by crushing them under the Baratie's gun ship. Saw Tooth Arlong ----------------------- Was left in charge of East Blue by Jinbei after he became a Shichibukai (Warlord of the Sea). He lives in Arlong Park on the island where Nami is from. He's quite the racist, and considers all humans inferior to mermen. He does not say Pew-mans in the Japanese version. I have no idea where that came from. Fights With: Teeth, nose, and a giant saw HOW TO OBTAIN: Beat any difficulty of Story Mode with all five original Straw Hat Pirates (Luffy, Zolo, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji) Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Saw Blade Giant Spin: Swings his saw wildly in front of himself and finishes by smashing it into the ground, causing a geyser to explode up. L1 + (X -> Triangle) Shark & Awe Special: A series of mid air diving attacks using his nose. The enemy is held helpless in air. Think Chipp's special from Guilty Gear. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> Triangle) Shark and Awe -> Shark and Destroy: -> Knocks enemy high into Arlong Park and chases after them by spinning forward with the saw held over his head like a giant buzz saw. Knocks them away from the building with a burst of water, and crushes them into the ground by diving after them and skewering them on his nose. NOTE: Arlong does not take damage from water. However, he will take damage if he falls off a stage that does not have water (Drum Castle and Alabasta Kingdom) Chaser (He's still made of smoke, yet they changed his name from Smoker because they censored out his cigars...what a ridiculous world we live in) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Marine Captain who is intent on catching Luffy. He has a strong sense of justice and will ignore orders if he feels they are unjust. Fights With: Moku Moku no mi (Smoke Smoke Fruit) HOW TO OBTAIN: Beat any difficulty of Story Mode with all five original Straw Hat Pirates (Luffy, Zolo, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji) Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) SmokeSnake: Turns his right arm into a smoke snake which grabs the opponent and beats the crap out of them L1 + (X -> O) Smoke Punish: Turns into a cloud. If the enemy touches any part of him while he's transformed, he will pull them up into the air and smash them into the ground with a Smoke Strike. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> []) Smoke Justice -> Smoke Strike: Dashes forward, turns into a cloud and then dashes again if the left analog is being held in a direction -> Sideswipes opponent with his motorcycle, grabs them out of mid air, and smashes them into the pavement so hard the impact shatters the ground and bounces them back up into the air. **************************** (sec303) GRAND LINE PIRATES **************************** Ms Sunday (Ms All Sunday/Nico Robin) ------------------------------------------------- A mysterious woman who answers only to Mr 0. She is an archeologist by trade Fights With: Hana Hana no mi (Flower Flower Fruit) HOW TO OBTAIN: Beat any difficulty of Story Mode with all five Bad Guys (Buggy, Kuro, Don Krieg, Arlong, and Chaser) Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Twenty Two Floret Round: Pairs of hands rush forward in a line, smashing anything in the way L1 + (X -> X) Six Floret Whirlwind: A whirlwind of flower petals surround her. If the enemy is caught in it, they are grabbed by hands that sprout from their body and put them into a series of painful locks and holds. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Sixteen Floret Lock -> 100 Floret Delphinium: A series of hands rush forward in a line -> Hundreds of hands push and throw the enemy around, eventually pushing him right off the side of Alabasta castle. Hands sprout from his body and hold him still as he falls head first to his doom. This is the move she used to defeat General Yama of Skypiea. Tony Tony Chopper ------------------------- A super intelligent reindeer with a blue nose. He aspires to be a great doctor. He has already created a medicine that allows Zoan type devil fruit users to surpass the three regular transformation. Fights With: Hito Hito no mi (Human Human Fruit) HOW TO OBTAIN: Unlock Ms Sunday and then beat Story Mode on Hard or Very Hard with Luffy Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Absolute Rest: Cycles through his half human, reindeer, and full human transformations while beating the enemy to a pulp. Finishes with by knocking the enemy into the ground with an overhand spike from his human form. L1 + (X -> Triangle) Keep Out: Throws the contents of his backpack at the enemy. The last projectile is a random attack item. Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> Triangle) Doctor's Orders -> Reindeer Roundhouse: Turns into a human, leaps into the air and body slams the enemy -> Quickly eats a rumble ball and uses the new Brain Point form to find the enemies weakness. Changes to Arm Point and smashes them with a super powerful right hook. Red Haired Shanks ------------------------ Captain of the Red Haired Pirates. He inspired Luffy as a boy to pursue a life as a pirate and gave him his trade mark hat. Though his bounty is not yet known, it is clear that he is one of the world's strongest pirates, despite the loss of his left arm. Fights With: Sword HOW TO OBTAIN: Unlock Tony Tony Chopper and then beat Very Hard with Luffy. Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Great Pirate Dance: Slashes at enemy while dashing back and forth L1 + (X -> X) Ultimate Mutilation: A series of lightning fast sword strikes. When he sheathes his sword, the shock wave blows the enemy away Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Pirate Triple Slash -> Great Pirate Party: Runs forward in a spinning sword strike -> His ship approaches a beach while his crew parties onboard. The ship runs aground, and he leaps from the deck and swings his sword down with such force it blows away the enemy and chunks of earth Hawk-Eye Mihawk ------------------------ A Shichi Bukai (Warlord of the Sea). He sails the world alone on a raft, but when you're the strongest swordsman in the world, who needs a crew? Fights With: A pocket knife he wears around his neck and an enormous sword he wears strapped to his back. HOW TO OBTAIN: Unlock Shanks then beat Very Hard with Zolo. You will face him as the final boss, and you MUST kill him with a Secret Attack in order to get him. You DO NOT need to do the full attack. Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) You Weakling: A skillful sword combo utilizing both his swords L1 + (X -> Triangle) You Stalwart: A MASSIVE 360 sword swing using his Black Sword Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Perish -> Pitiful: A medium range stab with his knife -> Leaps forward and slices enemy with his Black Sword. The shock wave continues through and cuts a ship in half. This is the move he used to destroy Don Krieg's fleet. Mr 2 Bon Clay ------------------ A member of Baroque Works. He doesn't have a female partner because he's supposed to be an Okama. Okama is Japanese for a cross dressing or androgynous man (Anyone remember the South Park with Okama Gamesphere). Fights With: Mane Mane no mi (Clone Clone Fruit) his fighting style is called Okama Kempo (Crazy Karate) HOW TO OBTAIN: Unlock Mihawk and then beat story mode with Sanji on any difficulty. During the credits enter this code... L1 + (X -> X -> Circle -> X -> Left -> on D pad -> X -> O -> [] -> X -> O -> Triangle -> O -> X -> R1 -> R1 -> Left on the D pad) There will be no indication the code worked until after the credits finish. Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Smiling Swan Soiree: A fast martial art combo L1 + (X -> O) Clone Clone Change: Changes into one of three random number agents L1 + (X -> X -> O) Mr 9: Fire's Mr 9's cannon L1 + (X -> X -> X -> O) Mr 8: Fire's Mr 8's Machine Guns L1 + (X -> X -> X -> X -> O) Mr 7: Fire Mr 7's gun with O Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> X) Last Waltz -> Swan Bombardier: Dances slowly away and lunges back at the opponent -> A series of kicks augmented by his super strong swan shoulder pads/shoes framed by Japanese paintings and poetry Mr O Crocodile -------------------- His public persona is that of a Shichi Bukai and a hero of the people, but he's actually Mr 0, leader of the shadowy organization Baroque Works. He's trying to build a perfect nation for himself. Fights With: Suna Suna no mi (Sand Sand Fruit) also uses giant claw, poison claw, and a replacement knife if the claw breaks. HOW TO OBTAIN: EITHER Rack up 50 hours in any mode of play (HINT leave versus on two player and infinite time) complete every difficulty in story mode with all 15 characters, then beat Very Hard with Luffy again. You should face Mr 0 as the final boss. If you don't beat him with a secret attack you will not get him. THE SECOND METHOD is to unlock the other 15 characters and then beat story mode with Ms Sunday on any difficulty. During the credits enter this code... L1 + (Down -> X -> Left -> Down -> Triangle -> X -> O -> [] -> Up -> O -> R1 -> Left -> Triangle -> Right -> [] -> R1) Super Attack (1 food gauge) L1 + (X -> []) Desert Prison: Dashes forward and grabs enemy. Press [] repeatedly to do extra damage L1 + (X -> Triangle) Sand Storm Burden: A jumping uppercut that knocks the enemy directly into the eye of an enormous sand storm Secret Attack (2 food gauges) L1 + (O -> O -> []) Desert Gust -> Wasteland Tremor & Wasteland Cataclysm: Slams hand into ground to create a gust of sand -> First Mr 0 drains the land of water and then he creates a sand storm that tears up the land and the enemy. NOTE: His taunt removes his gold hook and replaces it with one that causes all his hook moves to inflict poison. However, if you block too much, this hook will break, and be replaced with a weaker knife. ----------------------- (sec400) STAGES ----------------------- Fusha Village ----------------- Luffy's hometown. *Bandits will throw items at you *Enraged cow will attempt to trample you *Spinning sign post can launch you across the stage *If you pick up the grass, you may find a hidden cache of food Baratie: The Bistro of the Brine -------------------------------------- The restaurant ship that Sanji worked at and Don Krieg attacked. *A fallen mast connects the two ship decks. It can be knocked back and forth. Useful for trapping enemy support characters who can not jump. *The Baratie gun ship will show up occasionally to fire bombs at the stage. If any blow up on the drift wood in the middle of the stage, that section of stage will be destroyed temporarily. Arlong Park ---------------- Arlong's home base. Located near Nami's hometown *Arlong's crew members who ring the arena will occasionally step in to attack or confuse you *Momoo, the giant sea cow, can be walked and fought on, but he will occasionally sink into the sea and cause waves to wash away any one standing to either side of him *The buildings on either side of Momoo can be destroyed Rogue Town ---------------- Called the town of the Beginning and the End because Gold D Rodger was born and executed here. Located at the East Blue entrance to Grand Line. *The arena ringed by fences and constantly changes shape as the fences are pushed back and forth. *You can not fall off this stage *Alvida will spin across the stage while swinging her mace. *Occasionally a bolt of lightning will strike one side of the stage. Stand in the middle when this happens, since the electricity will jump to the opposite side without touching the center. *If a white symbol appears on the ground, the spectators are about to drop a net there. If you are caught underneath you will be stunned. Drum Castle ---------------- Castle of Vapolu. Located in Chopper's homeland, the Drum Kingdom, where it is constantly snowing. *You will be attacked with arrows and spikes shot by Vapolu's henchmen. You can knock them off the castle, but they'll just climb back up. *There is no water in this stage, so even Arlong will take damage if he falls. *This stage is home to two unique items. The first is a giant snowball that will freeze enemies, but melts soon after it lands on the stage. The second is a grey drum that actually turns out to be Vapolu. Throw him at your enemy and he will gobble them up and spit them back out. Alabasta Kingdom ----------------------- The kingdom from which Princess Vivi hails. It is engulfed in a bloody civil war, but both sides are actually being controlled by Crocodile, who plans to take over the shattered country. Oddly enough this is stage is not the site of the final battle between Luffy and Crocodile. HOW TO OBTAIN: Beat Story Mode with Crocodile *Strong winds will try to force you off either side of the level *The cannons near the castle wall can be turned and fired at your enemy *Princess Vivi will occasionally show up on Karoo and give you an item chest *If you are caught in a sandstorm, you will be blown high into the air *Cobra will slap you if you get too close *You can break the Shrine off to the side *There is no water in this stage, so even Arlong will take damage if he falls. Eden Rock ------------- The World Government HQ/training stage HOW TO OBTAIN: Complete Training for all characters except Mr 2 Bon Clay and Crocodile *There are no traps here so you're free to fight with no interruptions *You can race against the clock in Training mode to see how fast you can break all the pillars. You can still break the pillars in VS, but the timer will not start. *You can not fall off this stage --------------------- (sec500) ITEMS --------------------- Fruit: Shows up in every container. Replenishes a little of your food gauge Boxes and Barrels ---------------------- Eternal Lockpost: Break it to replenish your entire food gauge Gaimon: Guy with the green afro trapped in a treasure chest. If you hit him or hold him, he will start firing his pistol indiscriminately. Bombs: It will explode. Oil: Whoever breaks the can open will become slippery and unable to stop Torch: If it breaks on the ground, a small flame will appear. Anyone who steps into it will be burned and take damage as if poisoned. The flame and burns will be put out by stepping into water. NOTE If you hit an enemy with the torch after they've been hit with Oil, the resulting flame and damage will be much bigger. (This was pointed out by Silvermetal31 on the Grand Battle boards) Poison Mushroom: Throw it to release a cloud of toxic spores. Those who touch the cloud will be poisoned and will take damage for a period of time. Beehive: Throw it to release a trail of bees. If broken, the bees will begin to chase the players. If they catch you, you will become disoriented and your controls will be reversed.
