Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Dark Cloud 2 - Strategy Guide (Page 04).

viii) Usefulness of the Photo Album Book
```````````````````````````````````````````````````
This can be a life saver if you have missed any scoop photos. The album
can be access from different save files! That means if you miss a scoop,
you can get it back via the Album (provided that rare scoop is stored
inside the Album). However the downside is that you will need to have at
least 409 KB of extra memory space. Some of the photos can only be used
for inventions (such as Zelmite Found photo) provided that you have the
photo saved in the album.
                F i s h i n g   &   S p h e d a   B a s i c s
              -------------------------------------------------
This section will tell you about the game's 2 main mini-game - Fishing
and Spheda. Fishing is playable upon meeting with the Firbit at Great
Fish Swamp in Chapter 2 while Spheda is playable upon restoring the
time distortion at Barga's Valley in Chapter 3. Besides playing them
to earn badges, you can get attractive prizes and rewards for your
effects.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1: Fishing Basics
------------------------------------------------------------------------
i)      Getting the Fishing Rod
`````````````````````````````````````````
Fishing activities begin from Chapter 2 onwards. First of all, you
need talk to Firbit (Norm) sitting on tree stump fishing at Great Fish
Swamp. He will provide you with the fishing rod and a bait, Mimi. You
can only fish with Max, by the way.

ii)     Starting to fish...
`````````````````````````````````````````
To start fishing, you need to have it equipped on the character's right
arm and a bait on the items lot underneath the fishing rod icon. Most
of the food items except for crystals/ gems/ materials can be used as
bait. To equip a bait, do the same that you did to equip an item on the
item holders.
Once you have equip the fishing rod, you will find your character
carrying it as he is walking. First of all, you need to find a spot for
fishing. You need to locate watery areas. Stand at the edge of a pool
or pond to cast your reel. Hit X and you find a bait icon on the pool.
This indicates where you want to drop your line. You move the position
by using the left analog stick.
   Button     What it does?
   ````````   ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
   Square     Reel the line fast
   X          Reel the line slowly
   L Analog Pull up the line when a fish is bitting the bait
   Circle     Exit the Fishing Mode
   R2 Top view mode of the fishing area
   L1/R1      Rotate camera mode
   O Position camera in front of Max.

iii)    Fishing Training Tip
`````````````````````````````````````````
First of all, make sure the analog vibration setting is set on before
you start fishing. The controller will vibrate and eventually a red
! will appear on top of your character's head. Move the left analog
stick towards you and you will begin fishing.
There will be two indicators. The vertical indicator represents the
line's stamina (whether the line will snap) and the horizontal indicator
represents the distance of bait (& the fish) from the location where
your character is standing. The fish will try to break free and you need
to tap X button to reel your line in while moving left analog in the
same direction that the fish is moving towards. Do not tap X button too
eagerly as it will cause the line snap faster. Tap while the vertical
indicator is low. and shake the fish with the left analog stick. Do this
and you should get the fish towards the edge of the pool.
iv)     Where to fish?
`````````````````````````````````````````
You can fish anywhere as long as there is a huge water source. For
dungeons, make sure you finish off all the enemies there before you
begin to fish. There are medals to be earned if you caught a fish that
is longer in length than the required length.

v)      Fishing Points & Abilities
`````````````````````````````````````````
After you have caught a fish, you will be given 2 pieces of
information, the fish length and Fishing Points (FP). FPs can be used
to exchange for 1 ability point where you can customize your fishing
rod. To gain one abiliy point for any status attribute, you need at
least 100 FPs.
Attribute    What it does?                                    Initial
`````````    `````````````                                    ```````
Flight How far you can cast the reel 12
Strength Necessary for catching bigger fish 4
Resilience The line would not break that easily 6
Grip         Feel just right                                  1
Luck Success of fishing depends on it 2

vi)     Cooking Fish
`````````````````````````````````````````
Raw fish can be stored in the aquarium where you can used the fish
for the fish tournament or cooked with the cooking stove. Cooking
Stove can be bought at Morton's Shop at Palm Brinks in Chapter 2.
Cooked Fish cannot be spectralized but it can be use to restore hit
points.
vii)    Baits and Lures
`````````````````````````````````````````
>> Baits
Baits can be bought from Fabio, a support character who is recruitable
after you have caught a 60 cm Nonky. For tips in catching a Nonky,
please refer to fish information section for details. Baits are
essential to catch fish. Once a fish is caught or line breaks, the
bait will be gone - thus make sure you have ample supply of them.

Bait             Stats Boost
--------------   ----------------------------------------------------
Battan           Raises fish's tentacity
Carrot Raises fish's boost. Changes fish gender
Evy              Raises fish's stamina
Mimi             Raises fish's endurance
Minion           Raises fish's boost
Petite Fish      Raises fish's endurance
Potato Cake Raises fish's stamina. Reduces fish's weight
Prickly          Raises fish's tentacity

>> Lures
Lure Rod is a special fishing tool that make use of special items as
bait. The bait will stays on the lure as long as you have equipped it.
You still keep the lure once you caught the fish unlike bait. Certain
fish can only be caught using Lure.

To get a Lure Rod, there are 2 methods:-
1) Win the fish tournament
2) Invent it with the following 3 photos - Fish, Lafresica Stem
  (Scoop) and River. Materials needed: 10 Rolling Logs, 10 Scrap of
   Metal and 3 Sea Dragon Crystal [Cost: 750 Glidas)

Lures are special "bait" that requires some special controlling:-
You can get more than by buying from female Firbit, Olivie located at
the town square when you have recruited her.

-------------   -------------------------------------------------------
Lure            How to use it
-------------   -------------------------------------------------------
Frog Move the analog stick left and right for around 4
                to 5 times. Reel it for a second and repeat the
                process.

Minnow For every 2 left/right movements, reel in a bit with X
                button. Repeat the process.

Spinner Just cast and reel it in immediately once a fish got
                stuck with it. However, you will be using it like the
                Minnow.

Fork Use it like you are using the Frog Lure

You need to do these actions so as to use the lure motions to attract
a fish. For example, by using the Frog Lure, you need to move the lure
like a frog. You will find the in-game help for Fishing using Lures
upon getting the Lure Rod.

viii)   Fishing Tournament
`````````````````````````````````````````
Upon completing Chapter 3 while at playing Starlight Canyon dungeon,
you will have cutscenes regarding the fishing tournament. Mayor Need
will be organizing a fishing tournament that would took place every 10
days (game hours). Once the time limit has reached, you can visit
Palm Brinks and play the tournament there. There will be an indicator
show how many game hour(s) are there left for the current tournament.
In other words, while the status indicator for "Fishing Tournament" is
on, you will be able to enter the Fishing Tournament. To do, move to
Palm Brinks. Head for the Police Station. Head right from there &
there will be prompt whether you want to enter into the fishing
contest. Choose "Yes" and you will find the Fishing Tournament tent
being set up there...
You can have a maximum of 10 fish participate in the weighing contest.
However only the top 3 will be counted to your score. If your score is
among the top 3, you win! If you get first, you will get the converted
Lure Rod - you can catch fish by using Lure instead of baits!
ix)     Aquarium Basics
`````````````````````````````````````````
Midway in Chapter 4, you need to invent the Aquarium to feed fish with
the Electric Worm. To build the aquarium, you need to have photos of
Window, Wooden Box and Fountain. You need to spend 5x Rolling Logs, 15x
Water Element and 5x Glass Materials (all of these can be bought from
Conda). The aquarium could store a maximum of 6 fish. The tank can be
classified as 3 types - Rec, Battle & Breeding.

>> Rec
Under this tank, you can view the fish parameters and feed them with
baits. You can build up the fish parameters under this area. Move the
left analog stick to choose the spot where you drop the bait. You will
see whether the fish would like it. You need to build up fish
paramaters in order to win races at Finny Frenzy (Fish Race). You can
also rename the fish (only once). With the aid of items, you can
change the gender of fish (using a Carrot) or reduce the fish's weight
(Potato Cake). Please note that you can only feed the fish once per
view in the aquarium.
 _____________________________________________________________________
| Parameters      |What it does?                                      |
|-----------------|---------------------------------------------------|
|Strength |How hard the fish will be attacking other fish |
|-----------------|---------------------------------------------------|
|Endurance        |This will affects the fish's defense               |
|-----------------|---------------------------------------------------|
|Boost |This states how fast the fish is |
|-----------------|---------------------------------------------------|
|Stamina |This states how long the fish can withstand |
|-----------------|---------------------------------------------------|
|Tentacity |States whether the fish is calm or reckless in |
|                 |fighting. This determines the fish's fighting      |
|                 |ability                                            |
|_________________|___________________________________________________|

>> Fish Moods
Under the fish parameters, you will find the fish mood indicator:-

Moody - Behaves in various ways depending on mood...
Sore loser - Doesn't care about winning at all.
Reckless - Lacking in caution. Blows all energy out then is tired.
Clownish - Fools around a lot.

This affects on how well the fish fights in the Battling Tank.

>> Battle
To build up the parameters other than using baits to feed them, you
need to have the fish to battle in fishing tank. Battling with the same
type helps to build up the parameters. If you use a different type to
battle, you might end up killing the fish. Battling helps to raise the
fish's strength stats. It will be advisable to place two fish there
while you are clearing a stage in the dungeons.

>> Breeding
Breeding allows you to breed two fishes (opposite genders) and get a
newborn fish. The fish can be different kinds as long as they are
opposite gender. To change a fish gender, just feed the fish a Carrot.
You can even cross breed fishes to get a new gender. To mate, just
place only 2 fish. Wait for the breeding process and you will be able
to move the new fish back to the Rec Tank. Please note that it takes
a while to breed newborns. For the breeding combinations, I recommend
you to take a look at Dark Cloud Fish FAQ written by Leo C/Mike O,
which is available at GameFAQs.

x)   Finny Frenzy
`````````````````````````````````````````
Finny Frenzy will be introduced to you midway in Chapter 4 and you will
be able to race your breeded fish!
By winning the Finny Frenzy, you will be able to recruit Olivie - the
female Firbit who will sell you Lures if you come first. To enter the
Finny Frenzy, it is same way that you did for the fishing tournament,
except the indicator must state Finny Frenzy.
During every Finny Frenzy, there will be 3 races and each fish is
entitled to participate only once. Each race is classified into 3
events:-
 1st Heat - you must achieve to own the #1 position
 2nd Heat - you must achieve to own #2 spot or better
 Finals - you must achieve to own #3 spot or better
Each event consists of 2 laps. The race is automated and the fish's
pace is dependable on how well you raised the fish.
Talk to the owl and you will be given to choose your ranks - Begineer,
Junior, Senior or Master.
Tank Strategy
-----------------
Tank 1: Keep A Steady Pace
 - The fish will use the same speed throughout the race.
Tank 2: With All Your Might
 - The fish goes as fast as possible but gets tired.
Tank 3: Come Out Fighting
 - At the beginning of race, the fish accelerates fast then goes at a
   steady pace.
Tank 4: The Last Shall Be First
 - The fish begins the race with a steady pace and boosts its speed
   upon reaching the fishing line.
Tank 5: Settle It In The Ring
 - Fish will bump other fishes a lot to slow them down. Strength is
   factor here...
Tank 6: Go With The Middle
 - To get 2nd or 3rd placing easily, choose this...
Default Set of Prizes for Finny Frenzy
---------------------------------------
I'm not sure whether the prize list will be randomnized. I got this
prize listing when I first played Finny Frenzy.
 ____________________________________________________________________
|Position | Begineer                | Position | Junior              |
|_________|_________________________|__________|_____________________|
Upon winning a race of that class, you will get a new set of prizes
for that particular class.
xii)     Fish & Bait Matching
``````````````````````````````````````````````
After having a mad game in the game's fishing mini-game, I have find
out the recommended baits to catch the specific fish.

Prickly Bon, Bobo, Gummy, Niler, Nonky, Tarton,
Spinner             Negie, Baku Baku
Frog                Baku Baku
Fork                Baron Garayan
Minnow Baku Baku, Den, Bon, Hama Hama, Kaji
Mellow Banana*      Piccoly, Niler
Bomb Nut*           Gummy, Niler, Bon
Gooey Peach*        Gummy, Bon, Bobo
Heart-Throb Cherry* Gummy
Poison Apple* King Mardan (Story), Mardan Garayan

*Like the method you catch the King Mardan, you can use fruits bought
 from Adel (Bomb Nuts can only be bought from Mushroom Burgers at
 Jurak Mall) to be used as bait.

There are 2 special fish that you need to take note of:-

Fish:      Mardan Garayan                Baron Garayan
Location: Great Fish Swamp, Sindain Heim Rada, Hot Springs
Time:      6pm - 6am                     4pm to 9pm
Lure:      N/A                           Fork
Bait:      Poison Apple                  N/A
Rod:       Fishing Rod                   Lure Rod

IMO, the Baron Garayan is the toughest to catch. Apparently the Mardan
Garayan is not the same fish as the "Holy One".

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2:
S p h e d a    B a s i c s
------------------------------------------------------------------------

i)      What is Spheda?
`````````````````````````````````````````
Time distortion occurs in a lot of places. You will be introduced to
these mini-game at Barga's Valley in Chapter 3. You need to hit the
"Sphere" into "Goal". To play Spheda, you need to have a stick for Max
to putt. Only Max is allow to play this mini-game. After completing
the Quest, all previous dungeons with "????" marked as Medal
Conditions with "Spheda".
ii)     How the game is played?
`````````````````````````````````````````
Spheda is actually the game's golf mini-game! You need to wack the
Sphere into the Time Distortion portal. You need to make use of
rebounds (bumping). However there are some game rules:

The portal are represented by blue or red. To close a red time
distortion field, you need to wack a blue sphere into the goal. If
you use a red sphere at a red time distortion field, the ball will
repel even if you hit into the goal. You can change the sphere from
red to blue and vice versa by using bumping. Once a sphere hits a
hard ground and bounce, there are chances that it will turn into
a sphere of the other colour.

In a nutshell, you need to wack a sphere into a portal of its opposite
colour. You will understand more about this mini-game as you play the
game yourself.

iii)     Rules of Spheda
`````````````````````````````````````````
Besides the colour of the spheres must be opposite of the distortion
portal, there are other rules that you must follow:-
1) Only Max can play.
   You need to play as Max and he must equip with a stick. You can get
   the initial stick (Handy Stick) near Barga's tree house (where the
   nest is) at Barga's Valley. Upon completing that quest, you will
   get a putter (Turkey) for Spheda. To play, just equip Max with
   either 1 of these tools and head for the sphere for a wack!
2) Spheda can only be played in dungeons
   If there is a "Spheda" condition for that floor, you can play
   Spheda upon eliminate all enemies, the game will prompt you
   whether you want to move the sphere.
3) Similar rules to golf
   - The Handy Stick is your club. It is used to drive the sphere
     over long distances. You can replace this club with Falcon.
   - Swan (obtained from dungeons) allows you to drive the sphere
     over medium distances.
   - The Turkey is your putter. It is used to drive the sphere over
     short distances.
   - The Spheda Clubs can be upgraded, please refer to Weapon Flow
     Chart under Items Bestiary Section.
   - You will give a certain number of shots for the ball to hit the
     goal. The shots varies depends on the distance of your sphere
     spot from the goal. The longer the distance is, the more chances
     you are given.
   - If the ball drops in water or hit off-course, the shot will be
     forfeited.
   - The game will automatically ends once you used all the shots or
     hit the goal.
   - Make use of the map radar. The radar provides you the angle that
     the sphere is heading
iv)     What happened if I hit the goal?
`````````````````````````````````````````
The time distortion portal will be replaced with a treasure chest.
Prizes earned from Spheda are rare. You need to make use of bumping
in order to switch sphere colours and gaining a better shot.

v)      Controls for Spheda
`````````````````````````````````````````
The controls for Spheda are relatively simple, you just need to hit X
button thrice for a shot. But there is a gauge that measures the shot
power.
Button        What it does?
````````      ``````````````
X Swing the sphere, power level of swing and hit
Circle        Cancel
Left Analog Determines the aim direction
SELECT        Activates the map radar
START         Pause the game

For radar indicators, please refer to Part II of the FAQ.

vi)     Spheda Advance Controls
`````````````````````````````````````````
How to make your sphere do a spin or curve? How to time your shots
precisely and accurately? All of these tricks involved understanding
the Spheda Gauge.
Basic Spheda Swing
````````````````````
The basic swing comprises of 2 X button hits. The first hit will
indicate the power of the stroke while the second hit will determines
the accuracy of the swing. In other words, you need to hit X to start.
Wait it reaches the desired strength portion & hit X. Next the cursor
will determine the accuracy. Just allow the cursor to stop within the
Swing Indicator.

 |####|___|####| orange bars below the gauge. This indicates
                         the accuracy of the strike on the sphere.

If you miss the ### or |__| area, you will find a speech bubble with a
skeleton head appearing and Max will did a poor shot. If you make it to
the mid-point between ### & |_| area, you will find a music note and
an indicator that says "Nice Shot!". If you hit within the area, you
will get a ! sign.

Top Spin This allows the sphere to roll faster forward
Slice This allows the sphere move in a slicing motion
Hook This allows you to make curve shot
Back Spin The sphere will perform a back spin, thus slowing the speed.
           If the sphere hit an obstacle, it will be move towards the
           back

To do these advance controls, just when you do the swing motion (i.e.
after the first X button hit), you can move the left analog and the red
dot will be moving on the axis of the globe meter. Hold the desired
position and hit X to swing.

vii)     Spheda Clubs
`````````````````````````````````````````
The 3 basic Spheda clubs can be obtained from chests randomnly found in
dungeons - They are Falcon (for long range), Swan (for medium range) &
Turkey (for short range). You can get Albatross (long range with curves)
and the Flamingo (medium with curves) by building up a Spheda Club.
I would recommend you to have the Turkey and a long/medium range club.
Long range clubs such as Albatross or Falcon are very hard to use for
small areas. It would be best to have all 5 Spheda Clubs.
viii)    The Spheda Practice Area
`````````````````````````````````````````
This can be accessed from the "Spheda Practice Area" found under th
Extras Menu. To unlock it, you need to talk to Mina who is located at
the lobby of City Hall. The Spheda Practice Area features a 9 time
distortions course with a lot of difficulty per distortion.

Your scores will be listed under a top scores chart and you can save
this under the Extras file. You will begin equipped with the Turkey
Spheda Club. All other in-game Spheda clubs will be included inside
your item inventory.

This is quite a tough challenge. You will be playing at all playable
Spheda areas (all dungeons including Zelmite Mine).

i) How to upgrade my weapon?
`````````````````````````````````````````
Every playable character except for Monster Transformation has his/her
own set of weapons. Both Max and Monica's weapon can be upgraded by
synthesizing items into the weapon, thus upgrading their attributes. To
synthesis items into a weapon, you need to fulfil the following 2
requirements:-
1) Get Synth points - this can be done by levelling up the weapon. I am
   not sure on how much EXP that a weapon must gain in order to level
   up. As the weapon level up, it gains new Synth point(s). The weapon
   will level up once the blue bar underneath the weapon status bar is
   maxed out. You will find blue crystals being absorbed by the
   character once you defeat an enemy right? These actually add up the
   existing experience points gained prior to defeating that enemy.
   In other words, in order to have more Synth points, you must gain
   more ABS points with your weapon. ABS points will be absorbed
   based on the final blow deal to the enemy. E.g. if you use Max's
   right hand weapon to kill of the target, all ABS points will
   be awarded to the right-hand weapon. The left hand weapon will gain
   0 exp even if you have hit the enemy with it before. Magic released
   from Monica's Absorption Blade accounts for general ABS points.
2) Spectralize the items first - if you select an item with the X
   button, it will bring up the command list. Under the command list,
   you will find a command "Spectralize". This command allows you to
   convert any items into Synth items. A Synth item is actually a
   glowing form of items. You can spectralize items in groups. You can
   spectralize 4 items into 1 synth item. However to absorb the synth
   item formed from this spectralization process, the weapon must have
   4 synth points and above. Thus, it is not advisible to spectralize
   too many items into 1 synth item. Weapons can be spectralized but
   they offered low attributes.
For Ridepod, you cannot synthesize items into its weapon. Instead you
need to purchase new weapons from Cedric or via inventions. Purchasing
requires you to use Ridepod's exp points not Glidas by the way.
ii)     What is build up?
`````````````````````````````````````````
Every weapons have 10 core attributes - Attack, Durability, Flame,
Chill, Lightning, Wind, Exocrism, Crush, Smash & Scale. Once a weapon
has accumulated the min. points for that class of weapon, you can
build up the weapon to a new model. If you modified the weapon such as
a Battle Wrench with 10 for Exocrism, there may be variations to the
name such as Battle Wrench +1 etc. The weapons listing will be included
under the Item Bestiary section.

iii) How to get new weapons?
`````````````````````````````````````````
If you want to customize a weapon, focus all your resources on that
particular weapon, in this case, the weapon will be better than a
newly bought one. You can get new weapons (advanced) via purchasing
from Weapon shops or finding it in dungeons.
To get new weapons for Ridepod, you need to exchange exp points gained
by Ridepod for it.
iv)     Do weapons break as in Dark Cloud?
```````````````````````````````````````````````
Fortunately, it does not. The weapon with zero WPN will do "No effect"
damage, rendering it useless. However, you can restores weapon's WPN
with Repair Powders-type items.

v)      Weapons Augmented Abilities
```````````````````````````````````````````````
Coins obtained or purchased serves some purproses. They provide
additional abilities to weapons such as poisoning, stealing, etc. To
enfuse the ability, you need to get Coins, spectralize them and enfuse
them into weapons.
