----------------------------
IMPORTANT NOTE ON E-MAILS
----------------------------
Well, I am around 90% done with the FAQ so the future updates will be
dependable on how much time I have to spare as I getting busier with
my "national obligation". E-mails may be answered in 2 weeks time as
I will be away from my computer most of the time. If you need any help,
feel free to consult anyone of the authors for this game in GameFAQs.
To get help within the fastest time, get help from GameFAQs' message
board. Generally, I supposed this FAQ could help you (the reader) in
almost all areas except for:-
1) Fishing using Lures
2) Monsters Transformation process
3) Ridepod parts - statistics for the 40 weapons
4) Strategy for Undead monsters (I have messed up my note on those
skeletons ^_^: a personal blunder)
I am not sure when I will be doing a v1.6 update. But I am pretty sure
it is going to take a long time as my free time is getting lesser.
Hope you readers could understand. I will be glad if someone could
help me with the above 3 points...

>> Weapons
There are 2 playable human characters - Maximillian and Monica. Each
of them carries a melee-type weapon and range-type weapon. Melee-type
weapon are meant for close combat while range-type weapon are flying
target or enemies at further distance. Each weapon has its own hit
points (denoted by WPN). WPN drops as you attack with the weapon more
often. You can recover WPN points by using Repair Powder, Gun Repair
Powder or Ring Repair Powder. Underneath the weapon's WPN gauge, you
will find a blue gauge, it is actually the WPN's synthesis points
gauge. The gauge increases upon you defeat the enemy and recover the
blue crystals dropped from the fallen enemy. Once it is maxed out,
you will gain Synthesis points for upgrading your character's weapon.
Synthesis points is necessary to enfuse items into the weapon. The
blue crystal will be attributed to the character's weapon that deal
the killing hit to the target.
>> Spectralize
An innovative feature of Dark Cloud 2 that allows you to convert items
for synthesizing in your character's weapon. Each weapon has a total
of 10 attributes. The table below illustrates the meaning of each
attributes:-
______________________________________________________________________
|Attribute |Meaning |
|----------------|-----------------------------------------------------|
|Attack |Indicates the weapon attacking power |
|----------------|-----------------------------------------------------|
|Durability |Indicates the weapon's WPN durability. Weapon with |
| |higher durability, will have WPN decreasing at a |
| |lower rate. |

points, which are earned by defeat enemies. If there is insufficient
Synth points, the process is unable to take place.
For the type of items that enhances this ability, please refer to the
Item Bestiary.

into the game, you will find more movies available for viewing.
ix) Saving
``````````````````````````
Like traditional RPGs, you will find save points located in towns. Save
Points are indicated by red shields surrounded by red rings. Just hit
X when Max/Monica is near the save point. You can save your game into
the desired memory card slot. You can hit Triangle to save your game
while viewing the dungeon listing screen.
x) Getting Items/Open Chests
````````````````````````````````````
The idea is similar to Final Fantasy IX. You will find a ! icon
appearing on top of your active character's head. Hit X to explore the
item. Chests position are not fixed in dungeons or cities. They appear
randomnly. Minature chests contains power-up items such as Fruit of
Eden (increases max HP), Potato Pie (increases Max's defence) and
Witch's Parifact (increases Monica's defence). These items appears
after you completed a story event (for Chapter 1) and as for subsequent
chapters, you need to complete the Georama Conditions.
You can also get items from destroying crates/rocks/vases found in
dungeons. This can be done by using R1 + X to lift up the item and X
again to throw the item.
------------- II ---------------
D u n g e o n B a s i c s
--------------------------------
The objective of clearing dungeons is to get an item called "Gate Key",
which appears differently for different dungeons. The Gate Key is held
by one of the monsters in the area. Defeat it and you will able to
obtain it. Next, you need to locate the exit (indicated by a large
yellow dot) and use the key (activate the item sub-menu with Square
button and select the item).
The dungeon maps are randomnly generated. The location of the exit is
random and even the chests are random. Heck, almost everything is
random except for the type of monsters appearing in the area.
i) Attacking
`````````````````````````````````````
Dark Cloud 2 battle system is unique as compared to traditional RPGs.
It has some resemblance with Kingdom Hearts' battle system. You can
control your character to move freely on the battlefield and access
the menu at the same time.
Max starts with his Battle Wrench, a short range weapon. He will get
his projectile weapon - a gun-type weapon from Donny after you have
completed Prelude. Monica starts with the sword as you have seen her
taking it at the Prelude. Her long-range weapon is using magic. All
these commands can be ONLY used while in Dungeons.
>> Combo Hit
This can be done with the character's right-hand weapon i.e. the short
range weapon. You can do combo strikes by hit the X button repeatedly
as your character attacks the enemy. The chain lasts for a maximum of
5 hits. You will end the last hit with a knock-down attack. The combo
hit differs depends on the weapon that your character is using. The
damage dealt will progressively increase with the number of hits.
>> Charged Attack
To do a charged attack, you just need to hold down the X button and
release it for your character to release a heavy hit. You can even hit
aerial targets surrounding your character.
>> Final Blow
Lock on the target and tap the left analog stick towards the target and
hit X. The character will deal a jumping leap with a swing of the
weapon, dealing heavy damage.
>> Backflip
Lock on the target and tap the left analog stick away the target and hit
X. Your character will do a flying backflip that separates him/her away
from the target. Please note while in mid-air your character is
vulunerable to all sorts of attacks.
* Magic-Absorb Blade (Monica ONLY)
Magic-Absorb Blade is a skill that allows you to absorb the energy of
elemental attacks, such as Fire, while guarding. When you swing your
sword with X button, it fires back as magic. You can continuously
charge up energy of 1 elemental type.
If you absorb a different element type, Monica lose the magic that she
stocked up. For example if you stock up 3 fire spells from an enemy,
you absorbs a chill spell, you will lose all your previous fire spells
that you have stocked earlier.
The amount of elemental energy you can absorb depends on the durability
of your equipped weapon. The weapon's durability will improve as Monica
levels up and you will find more slots appearing on her weapon icon.
(The slots are indicated by white dots)
To release absorbed elemental energy in the form of magic, press L1
while guarding with R1.
* Throw (close-ranged only, Max/Monica only)
You can grab objects and hurl them at targets. This can be done by
holding R1 and hit X to grab the object. Hit X again to throw the
object. You can even throw enemies (of course, not for monster that are
over-sized). Throw objects at enemies may cost enemies to get stunned,
where you can hurl all your attacks on the unguarded enemy!
ii) Restore attributes - HP/Fuel/WPN
`````````````````````````````````````````
You can activate the main menu while in dungeons. You can use items
from item holders by toggle the cursor on the item with D-Pad and
Square button to use the item. There are 3 important statistic
attribute- Hit Points, Fuel, Weapon Points
>> Hit Points (HP)
To restore hit points, you must give your character healing items such
as Bread, Mellow Banana, Pointy Chestnut, etc. Some items will
increase Max or Monica's thrist, thus you need to drink Tasty Water,
etc.
As the characters do not level up in this game, you can only increase
Max/Monica's HP by giving him/her the Fruit of Eden, which is
extremely rare and hard to get. You can also increase defences by
giving Max a Potato Pie and giving Monica a Witch's Parfait.
Once a character is KO'd in a dungeon, you will be bought to the
character selection screen to select a fightable character. Fallen
characters will be revived back to full health upon exiting the
dungeon. You can revived a fallen character by using a Ressurrection
Powder, which is only available in dungeons for Chapter 7 onwards or
via Spheda.
>> Fuel
This applies to Ridepod only. Ridepod's HP is indicated by fuel gauge.
You can refuel his energy source (i.e. fuel gauge) by using a Ridepod
Fuel. The Ridepod Fuel can be obtained from treasure chests or crates
in dungeons. You can also visit Cedric, who is located at the workshop
(prior to Chapter 1) or locomotive (Sindain, Chapter 2). You can also
use his character ability while having him in your party. You can buy
Ridepod Fuel from Morton's Sundries for 2000 Glidas from Chapter 5
onwards. You can upgrade Ridepod's Energy Pack upon more discoveries
through the Make Menu.
>> WPN Points
WPN points actually represents the lifeblood of your weapons. Once it
reaches 0, the weapon will deal zero damage or No Effect, rendering it
becoming useless. You can however restore the power by using Repair
Powder items. Repair Powder restores Melee weapons for Max, Monica &
Ridepod. Gun Repair Powder fixes range weapons for Max and Ring Repair
Powder fixes range weapons for Monica. WPN points will decrease as you
uses the weapon. The deteoriation rate will decrease if you improve
the weapon's durability. You can also fix weapons via Cedric's NPC aid.
iii) Reading Dungeon Map Indicators
`````````````````````````````````````````
Below is a chart that shows what the indicators show:
you face a chest that cannot be open, you need to use a Treasure
Chest Key, which is a rare item obtained from dungeons. You can also
get a lucky draw of 2 boxes - Happy Clown Present. You also have
Donny to open up the locked chests if he is the support character.
** Coin Spot will result the coin flipping the moment Max or Monica
steps in the area. If it is Angel, you will get bonuses such as WPN
recovery, HP recovery, etc. If the coin shows Devil, good luck...
iv) Status Ailments
`````````````````````````````````````````
Status ailments causes your character to unable to peform what he/she
normally does. It is highly recommended that you stock up these items
once you gotten the opportunity to buy them from Adel. Mighty Healing
can be purchased from Dr. Dell (who will joins you automatically in
Chapter 3) or Star Items at Starlight Temple (Future, Chapter 3).

`````````````````````````````````````````
Prior to accessing the dungeons, you can find Medal conditions. If you
succeed in completing the dungeon within that condition, you will get a
Medal, which will be kept in the Medal Holder.
SEALS - this indicate the special dungeon conditions
______________________________________________________________________
|Seal Type |What it means? |
|----------------|-----------------------------------------------------|
|Red |Maximillian/Ridepod cannot be used for the stage. |
|----------------|-----------------------------------------------------|
|Blue |Monica or her transformations cannot be used for the |
| |stage. |
|----------------|-----------------------------------------------------|
|White |No status/HP recovery items can be used. You can |
| |still recover HP via healing spring or use a weapon |
| |that has Drain or Slow Heal ability enfused in it. |
|----------------|-----------------------------------------------------|
|For the seals listed above |
|To break the above seals, defeat all enemies in that dungeon first |
|with the seal ON. The seal will be broken when you play that dungeon |
|for the next time. |
MEDAL CONDITION
Medals are hard to collect in my opinion. You need to finish the stage
by completing the dungeon within the stated conditions. Medals earned
will be kept in the Medal Holder. Medals does not indicate you are a
great Dark Cloud 2 player but also allows you to obtain special clothing
late in the game. The medals can be exchanged with Mayor Need (provided
you have recruited the Mayor)
>> Time Limit to Attack and defeat all enemies: XX:XX
Defeat all the enemies in the dungeon within the XX:XX time limit. E.g.
if XX:XX is 02:00, you need to clear the stage with all enemies killed
in 2 minutes time! You will learnt whether you made it after all
monsters have been killed. Please note that Mimics (hidden in chest) are
also included!
>> Spheda
(This will be marked as ??? in dungeons prior to Chapter 3)
After you have removed the time distortion portal at Barga's Valley in
Chapter 3, you will be able to play a game of Spheda or Sphere Golfing.
If you get rid of the time distortion portal using the Sphere, you will
get good treasures such as gems, level-up powder, stamina potions in
addition to getting a medal. You will be able to start playing Spheeda
towards the end of Chapter 3. Win on same dungeon in the next few
tries, nab you lesser items...
>> Fishing
(This will be marked as ???? in dungeons prior to getting the Fishing
Rod in Chapter 2)
After you've killed off all of the enemies, catch a fish on that floor
with a length greater than the length the floor statistic screen
specifies. For details about fishing, please refer to Fishing Basics
(section 4 of the FAQ). To fish, you need to located water filled
areas.
