reflecting in her black pool eyes from flame dancing upon her arms and
body. She jumped, as a cat, into an attack stance...

21's nights were haunted by dreams of childhood laughter broken
with clashing swords and bolts striking soldiers down. He felt he was
remembering... something. An elderly man, dressed in robes, came upon
the resting 21. He seemed at peace, though soon 21 recognized he was
blind. The man told 21 that it was not what one sees that tells him
what is there, but what one feels. If 21 felt murder was within him,
he should seek those who kill... 21 traveled to the Spider's Lair, home
of Assassins, thinking that his blind visitor was a divine gift of
direction... He encountered the assassin Phade who attacked the
intruding 21!

Without answers, 21, continued south in the direction Mongo told
him. The jungles turned to deep forest and then to swamps, snakes and
creatures lurked everywhere in the murky region. A green lady jumped
before 21 with great speed! She told 21 her name was Eyara and that
she guarded the land from those who would defile it... She told him to
live, for he was intruding in a sanctuary. 21 did not turn, and Eyara
attacked!

Resigned to some destined talk with Dagan of Dolok, 21 traveled to
the Arctic Lands of Skurlok to the Lost Fortress. As he arrived, 21
heard the clash of steel. Upon entering, 21 witnesses Dagan fall at
the hands of Magnus, lord of the undead. His mighty two-handed sword
cleaved Dagan from shoulder to side. Magnus turned on 21, seeking his
next victim.

growled at 21 and then charged to attack!

from him now. Fleeing to hide within the lonely Venomous Swamps, 21
encountered Eyara, the defender of nature. She attacked 21, telling
him his intrusion into her sanctuary would be punished!

Ruins, he navigated his way along the Shoreline of the Inlet of Freya
until he came to the beaches bordering the Oceans of Darkness.
Carefully he followed directions to the east until the land itself
erupted with volcanic geysers and flowed rivers of molten rock... He was
in the Lower Darklands. Heading inland, Northward deeper into the
hellish landscape, 21 encountered a dark skinned demonic woman with
flaming skin! The demon leapt at him like a cat on its prey without
warning!

and killed. Then all was black, and 21 trembled in horror. He was
that child, the one whose parents were murdered. With abandon, the
tormented 21 leapt to his feet and traveled without rest to the
Spider's Lair where his nightmare took place! The foul den smelled of
carrion, disease, and pungent fungus... An odd sulfuric stench struck
21's nostrils when Jinn, a demon from Naraka, charged from the
darkness!

were? Why did they leave him and save so many other prisoners? Why
was he, a nobody, singled out to rot in the Prisons to die? What if
that Stitch had not come to kill him? ...He might well be dead, starved
in his cell, cell #21. 21's mind spun in circles and when he thought
he could think no more... he, 21, tapped him on the shoulder... But this
was not himself, it was some kind of alter ego, a sinister 21!

8B. SCAVENGING

The ocean flowed in and out across the beautiful beach near the
glistening shores just north of the bay of clans, seagulls calling to
each other flying overhead. Children played in the sand, one young ten
year old boy proud of his sand castle and calling for others to see his
masterpiece. Riders appeared on the horizon carrying the standard of
the assassin's guild. They rode in, blades coming down upon their
unarmed victims. A mighty horse clad in barding smashed the sand
castle with its hoof... 21 woke with a scream... another bad dream... 21
had heard the assassin's guild shared refuge with the thieves, guild
with the Spider's Lair during his long stay with Akrowla. He decided
to go there to find information... He was surprised to find a huge ape
ripping the place apart... It saw 21 and attacked!

21 kept running, always running ever since his fleeing the Prisons
of Akrowla. He took pause and wondered where he was running to, for he
knew so little of the world of Barbaria. He knew nothing of himself,
not even his name. The assassin Phade said she murdered her parents
when he was a boy... why? What made him important enough to live? His
head ached with thinking too much and he walked... and walked... He was
nearing Shorestone Castle, where he was accosted by the monstrous ape,
Mongo!

After a long trek to the Land of Desolation, 21 finally met the
wizard warrior Corath. This was the man who wished him dead. 21 ran
openly to him, hysterically crying out "Why!? Why all of this!? I
never did anything!!!!??? Why!?" Corath, coldly told 21 that he was
the only one that could stop his master, the arch mage Zaugg, and that
was unacceptable. He pointed to a pillar, pulsing with divine energy.
He grinned and said that he and his master were one with Barbaria now,
and they could not die... 21 was too late! 21 screamed as he attacked!

So much misdirection filled 21 that he made the decision to seek
the den of thieves that housed the assassin Phade. Perhaps he would
find some clue about his dead parents there. He had heard tales that
an old lair of giant spiders was home to the thieves' guild, and so he
traveled to the Spider's Lair. 21 had only entered the foul den when
he saw Princess Keela. She drew her sword against him. She charged
him for the murder of Dagan of the Clan Dolok, and sentenced him to
death!

With Corath slain and the Pillar of Corruption destroyed, only a
swirling red portal of light offered hope to find this arch wizard
Zaugg. 21 knew little of this wizard and certainly knew nothing of
this red portal and where it might lead. His life was pre-ordained it
seemed, always someone else deciding his future. Today, 21 decided,
would be his day! The hulking man ran and jumped head first into the
light! On the other side, 21 saw me. I am Zaugg, orphaned child of
prophecy. I planned your parents suffering and death, your witness to
it, your incarceration, your very ruined and tormented mind! I mad
you, 21... if that is what you call yourself. I did it all for you to
suffer, for I know who you really are! When the gods themselves fear
me, what makes you think yourself able to even hurt me!? I am Zaugg!!!

Heavy hot air filled 21's lungs, making him feel ill. During a
moment of heavily coughing, the nimble demon Jinn strolled confidently
into view. She told 21 that the day to prove himself worthy was at
hand, for either she would be slain and sent back to Naraka or he would
die and Barbaria would fall as its last hero failed. Jinn attacked!

Feeling threatened by everyone of Barbaria for things he did not
do and judged for actions he was innocent of, 21 wanted to escape
everyone and everything. He sought the solitude of the Venomous
Swamps, but even there he could find no peace. Eyara, nature's
protector, emerged and attacked him as an invader!

COMBO RUNE ([]): "RUN SPEED." Mongo will hulk up and will produce
green aura trails as he runs and attacks. During this time, Mongo is
able to move twice the speed when running or attacking. Use this time
to pull off quick and fierce combo against slower opponents. Press the
R2 Button to release the attack.
THROW RUNE (U): Mongo will crawl up into a ball and start spinning.
Use this attack and control Mongo manually when facing off against
multiple opponents as you leave white aura trails behind. Good for
juggling an opponent in the air several times as well. Basically,
Mongo becomes the bowling ball and the attackers are the pins! Press
the R2 Button to release the attack.
OBJECT RUNE (X): Mongo will raise his bare hands and smash them into
the ground and the result will be a circular green earthquake that will
knock any nearby opponents off their feet. This is a great attack to
use when you are totally surrounded. Press the R2 Button to release
the attack.
COUNTER RUNE (/\): Mongo will raise his arms into the sky and will
produce a vacuum of debris from the ground where he stands. Any enemy
who approaches will be sucked into it and slammed into the ground.
This is efficiently used against multiple attackers. Press the R2
Button to release the attack.

lay below. They had become poisonous. What there was to eat, Mongo
ate. Nothing remained to sustain Mongo's huge size. He worried...
Mongo thought he would have to leave his pleasant home in the jungle in
the Forgotten Ruins. A man, so hurt that his entire chest was sewn up
with threads, saw Mongo and attacked him!

and slammed into Mongo, killing him... Time passed... Mongo's hands
twitched... Life returned to him. His eyes opened suddenly, in shock...
Mongo was alive! From the void of the dead Mongo came back! Scared,
but happy to be alive, Mongo ran southward into the Lower Darklands
until he came upon a dark skinned demon! Jinn hissed that the stupid
ape did not realize his own immortality... but she said she knew how to
kill him permanently and torture his soul throughout eternity... She
attacked!

defending himself... the door opened as a guard brought him food. Mongo
grabbed him and threw him into the cell, locking the door as he left! He
found a gruff and strong man, calling himself 21, on his way out and they
fought!

of assassin, Phade. He remembered Dagan said Phade killed his wife...
and he thought maybe if he could show those who hunted him that he did
not kill everyone, maybe they would let him go... Mongo was naive, but
his simple heart had hope... Phade did not appreciate the ape ripping
her hide-away into shambles as he looked for evidence against her... and
so she attacked!
