Perfect Dark - Strategy Guide (Page 03)

Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Perfect Dark - Strategy Guide (Page 03).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                Attack Cyborg
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This boss is pretty easy, just walk constantly to avoid his missiles and when
he is in line with one of the lasers run up to it and hold A. The longer you
go without firing a laser, the more it'll charge up, hitting the Cyborg with
more power (and consequently, draining more energy). After his life bar
turns all red he will explode and you will exit the factory.

E) Change to 6-yyy and head up, killing the guard ahead (Med Kit). Take a
left through the barrels and kill the two guards ahead (Med Kit & Machine
Gun Ammo). Head further left and kill the guard ahead (Pistol Ammo).
Now head up, killing a guard on the way (nothing) and save the hostage.
Backtrack down, then head right and then up. The door to the next
factory should be to your right so enter it. As soon as you enter, head
up. Kill the two guards on the way (Machine Gun Ammo & nothing). Now go
down the ladder and head right. Kill the guard ahead (Med Kit). From
here, you can either go through the door on the right or kill the two
guards below (nothing & Rockets). Then go through the door in the top
right corner of this section. Head down and kill the guard ahead
(nothing), then go through the door on the right. Kill the guard (Med
Kit) and save the hostage there. Exit the room and head up, killing the
guard ahead (nothing). Head up the ladder, then head down the right
boardwalk killing two guards the way (2×Med Kit). Head right through the
doorway and kill the guard patrolling near the "Door Control" (Machine
Gun Ammo) and complete it. Head up through the doorway, kill the guard
ahead (nothing), and head through one of the doors above. Kill the guard
by the canister (nothing), then arm the bomb. Now backtrack down all the
way and head left & back up the boardwalk. Head down the left side of
the boardwalk and go through the door on your left. Walk up and kill the
guard ahead (Med Kit). Backtrack down and head left. Kill the guard
ahead (nothing) and collect the Med Kit. Now head up, kill the guard by
the exit (Machine Gun Ammo), then exit.

F) Kill the guard (nothing) then go through the next door. Head down,
killing the five guards on the way (3 have nothing, while the other 2
have Machine Gun Ammo & a Med Kit). Head left and shoot the two guards
on the way (Pistol Ammo & nothing). Kill the guy on the boardwalk from
the ground (nothing), then climb up the ladder. Head left and down to
collect the Med Kit. Go to the "Door Control" and finish it. I
recommend changing to your Falcon 2 at this point. Go up through the
doorway and walk right then up. Kill the guard ahead (nothing), then go
right through the doorway. Head up and to the right and kill the guard
(nothing), then go up through the door. Go left, then up, and kill the
guard (Pistol Ammo). Head right and down the ladder to save the hostage,
then go through the left door. Go up around, then down the ladder. Kill
the guard down there (nothing) and arm the bomb. Head back up the ladder
and kill the guard that is close (nothing). Go through the top door.
Head right, then up. Shoot the guard up ahead (nothing), then head left
and down the ladder to collect the Med Kit. Now head through the right
door and head up. Blast the guard patrolling near the exit door (Shotgun
Ammo), then exit. Be prepared to face Mink Hunter...

Mink Hunter: Ah, Ms. Dark, I have been expecting you. If you think you can
just waltz in here and destroy my little operation, you are very much mistaken.

Joanna Dark: Give it up, Hunter. This is the end of the line. I've placed
explosives throughout your factory, and as soon as I've dealt with you I'm
going to blow this place apart.

Mink Hunter: You'll have to get past me first, girl!

Joanna Dark: Have it your own way!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                 Mink Hunter
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mink Hunter is on the left side of the screen, and Joanna is on the right.
The two are seperated by a pit of lava, and it's your job to hit Mink Hunter
with shurikens (Ninja Stars). When Hunter throws his Ninja Star up and to the
right, that's your cue to run to the bottom-right of your platform. When he
throws to the bottom-left, run to the upper-right of your platform. NEVER
throw directly at Mink Hunter! He'll easily run away from the Ninja Star.
Instead, throw the Ninja Star into a wall so that it'll bounce off and into
him. Remember to catch (or pick up) your Ninja Star if you miss! This battle
takes a bit of practice, but once you find the right groove, you'll beat him
easily.

Joanna Dark: Mission successful, sir.

Daniel Carrington: Very good. Anything to report?

Joanna Dark: Although there was heavy resistance, I was able to destroy the
facility and eliminate the head of the forces. There was one odd
thing. During the landing, I witnessed an aircraft being shot down. I
made a note of the co-ordinates.

Daniel Carrington: Good, good. You have done well, Joanna. We'll take a look
at those co-ordinates and compare them with satellite data for the area. I
knew you would make a good agent. I'll expect a full report on my desk before
you leave.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
       M I S S I O N 2 - C R A S H S I T E / d A T A D Y N E B A S E
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daniel Carrington: We found nothing, Joanna. In all of the satellite data
that grid square is empty. But we got hold of an Air Force pilot's report of
a UFO in the area at that time.

Joanna Dark: A UFO? More likely it's an experimental aircraft.

Daniel Carrington: I agree... but it's still worth investigating. Go and
snoop around the crash site, see what you can find. But look out for dataDyne
activity in the area. We're getting a lot of strange reports.

Joanna Dark: Yes, sir.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                     M I S S I O N 3 - P E L A G I C 1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max Danger: Joanna, the cleanup operation is well under way. dataDyne are
moving the wreckage as we speak.

Joanna Dark: Max, hi. How do I access the crash site?

Max Danger: You will need two key cards to get access to the crash site. But
there's more: I've been in contact with the Institute, and Carrington has
instructed me to update your mission objectives.

Joanna Dark: What are they?

Max Danger: You must steal a laptop computer and download the dataDyne files
onto it. The files are stored on a mainframe in the west wing of the base.
It is locked by an additional key card.

Joanna Dark: Is that all?

Max Danger: No, you'll need to switch the power matrix off before you can
perform the download. The room containing the matrix is probably deep inside
the base.

Joanna Dark: Okay. I'd better get moving.

Elvis: Joanna, you must gather as much information on the alien
ship as possible and get it back to the Carrington Institute.

Joanna Dark: Who... who are you?

Elvis: A friend. Listen, you must stop dataDyne getting away
with the alien wreckage.

Joanna Dark: What do you mean?

Elvis: You must sink this ship and escape.

Joanna Dark: How?

Elvis: I'm sorry I can't help you any further.

Octopus Prime: Going somewhere?

Joanna Dark: Huh?!

Octopus Prime: You can't escape that easily.

Joanna Dark: Get out of my way!

Octopus Prime: Octopus Prime does not follow orders, especially from one such
as you.

Joanna Dark: Move!

Octopus Prime: Oh, no! No! I'm going to turn you into fish food.

Daniel Carrington: Joanna, it's good to see you. We feared the worse when we
heard you'd been captured.

Joanna Dark: It was a little tricky, but I've been well trained.

Daniel Carrington: How did you escape?

Joanna Dark: You wouldn't believe me if I told you. The crash site was being
cleared as I got there. dataDyne were well organized. I was captured at the
crash site and transferred with the wreckage to the hold of the Pelagic I
research vessel.

Daniel Carrington: Did you see the wreckage?

Joanna Dark: Yes, it was an alien vessel.

Daniel Carrington: Alien?

Joanna Dark: Belonging to a race called the Skedar.

Daniel Carrington: And dataDyne knew this all along?

Joanna Dark: It would seem that dataDyne are heavily involved. It was
difficult to discover any further details. The Pelagic I is now resting on
the ocean floor, although I don't think dataDyne will leave it there for very
long.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
          M I S S I O N 4 - C A R R I N G T O N I N S T I T U T E
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daniel Carrington: The institute is under attack.

Joanna Dark: What?!

Daniel Carrington: Joanna, you've got to stop them...and quickly.

Joanna Dark: Leave it to me.

Daniel Carrington: Well done Joanna. That was a close thing. You really have
proven yourself as an agent.

Joanna Dark: I just did my duty.

Danieal Carrinton: From now on we must be cautious. We will have to carry out
further investigations of dataDyne to find out what is at the bottom of this.

Joanna Dark: I'd like to volunteer for that job, sir.

Daniel Carrington: For now I think you should have a break, take it easy for a
while. We'll need you back in action very soon...

These are all coming soon (hopefully in about a week). Be patient!

Target Range
------------

A VERY easy mini-game. Surely you don't need tips! Just hit the guards and
don't hit the hostages. Their are individual tips for each Target Range in
the Training Mission walkthroughs.

Door Control
------------

C'mon, surely you don't need tips for this either! If you're having trouble
remembering the "combination," just write it down on a piece of paper. The
most the pattern will ever be in the main game is 6 colors/sounds. In the
Extras menu, however, it goes up to 8, I believe. If you forget the pattern,
just fail twice and a new pattern will be given to you.

River Crossing
--------------

Now here's a REAL mini-game! It's kinda hard the first time, but it shouldn't
pose any long-term trouble. Shoot the guards so they won't kill you. Shoot A
crates for ammo. Shoot Med Kits to heal. And shoot G crates for 4 grenades.
You have two choices. If your aiming is extremely good, conserve ammo by
aiming and using only one bullet to shoot each guard. If you have terrible
aiming, then Hold A to fire constantly and just move the cursor to wherever a
guard is. Ammo crates are of extreme importance! You never wanna run out of
ammo! Grenades are extremely useful for clusters of guards, so save them for
that situation (or use them if you run out of ammo). Med Kits are also
important, naturally. One big tip: Once you run out of ammo (and Reload
flashes on your screen), you're not actually out of ammo! You can STILL shoot
guards, so don't let your guard down!

Jungle Chase
------------

Ok, I totally sucked at this mini-game the first few tries, but AstroBlue
never had any trouble with it. I'll have my own hints by the next update.

Hind Attack
-----------

This is another hard one the first time. Hints next update...

Sniper Mode
-----------

Now this mini-game really frustrated me!! Hints next update...

Attack Cyborg
-------------

Mink Hunter
-----------

Octopus Prime
-------------

Pelagic 1 Escape
----------------

dataDyne Attack
---------------

Movie Player
------------

Watch the various "cinemas" found throughout the game. Unfortunately, you
can't choose specific cinemas like you could in the N64 version, so if you
want to see a cinema that's found later in the game, you'll have to watch all
of the ones up to it. Even more unfortunately, Rare didn't include an option
to listen to all the digitized voice :( And yes, I know this isn't a
mini-game, but it's in the Extras, so there :P

All this stuff is coming soon. School is a first priority for both of us, so
please be patient!

                     /---------------------------------
Solo Missions Strategies and Tips
                      ---------------------------------/

Here are some tips to help you complete your missions:

1) Doorways are life-savers!!! Guards will NEVER follow you into them, and
they will NEVER see you if you're in a doorway. Use this to your advantage!
Hide in doorways and wait for guards to come on by, or run to the safety of a
doorway if you've alerted a guard!

2) KNOW which weapon to use! The Falcon 2 is the weapon of choice in most
situations, since it's the only gun that'll get you a silent kill. However,
there are some situations in which it is impossible to sneak up on a guard.
In those situations, it's best to use the Shotgun, since it'll kill with one
hit. Surrounded by multiple guards? Whip out your machine gun! Also, don't
worry too much about conserving ammo for the big guns (i.e. Rocket Launcher).
Your items usually don't cross over with the next mission, so you might as
well use them while you have them!

                              /---------------
Gameboy Printer
                               ---------------/

Using your (very expensive, at least for me) Gameboy Printer, you can print
out cool images of the game's characters and vehicles. Yes, I've printed them
all out, and some of them look pretty cool. More details soon...

                                /------------
Transfer Pak
                                 ------------/

Using your (kind of expensive) Transfer Pak, you can open up four hard-to-get
(and some not-so-hard-to-get) cheats in the N64 version of Perfect Dark:

R. Tracker (W/ Weapons Cache Locations)
Cloaking Device
Hurricane Fists
All Guns in Solo

Now whose idea was it to open up R. Tracker with the GBC PD? I mean, MAYBE
some of those timed cheats are hard to get, but beating the Skedar Leader on
Agent really isn't that hard. Then again, one of my friends never did it...

Here we shall answer the mystical questions that boggle the mind, such as
"What is the meaning of life?" or "Why is the sky blue?" Well, maybe not, but
we will answer questions often asked about the game and this Walkthrough.

1) Q. Why isn't there a walkthrough/strategy for ________?

   A. Because AstroBlue and I are both VERY busy with school (not to mention
the work I'm putting into my Wario Land 3 FAQ). Horshack has a couple
of weeks of due to the Olympics, but I'm still really busy and unable to
do any walkthroughs. We PROMISE that we will eventually have this whole
      thing finished. Just be patient!

2) Q. Can I e-mail either of you with a question?

   A. Sure! BUT please follow these rules:
1)Do NOT e-mail us asking about stage or boss strategies that
aren't in the walkthrough! We're working as fast as we possibly can w/o
      falling behind on schoolwork!
2)Do NOT e-mail us asking a question already answered in the FAQ!
3)You may Instant Message us (through AIM), but follow the same
rules that you would to e-mail us. PLUS, do NOT put us on your Buddy
List or Address Book. We are here to help you, not to be your friends
forever. After we answer your question, there is no need for us to talk
to you again. I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but we don't need people
IMing us every second asking us non-PD related questions. Contrary to
popular belief, FAQ writers DO have lives!

V 0.1-September 1, 2000- First version. Everything new. Tired of version
history after Wario Land 3, so expect only general descriptions from now
      on.

V 0.1a-September 1, 2000- Whoops, made a big mistake regarding fonts. It's
been fixed, as well as a few other mistakes.

V 0.2-September 5, 2000- Final 2 training mission walkthroughs completed
Added Controls for various modes. Varios secrets added to
P.Codes/D.Secrets section. Basically, lotsa stuff added. PLEASE don't
ask me to tell you all of it :P

V 0.3-October 1, 2000- Sorry the update took so long. Things are still
bumpy for me at school (AP courses suck), so I haven't had much time to
work on the FAQ. Anyhow, Astroblue (Horshack83's new name) has
completed the rest of the South American Jungle walkthrough, as well as
the walkthrough for the Cyborg Manufacturing Facility (or, as the N64
version would spell it, Felicity :) ). I've added more stuff to some of
      ther other sections too.

By the way, both of us are farther ahead in the game than the walkthrough
suggests, so please don't send in any info about future stages! If there's
something wrong with the current walkthroughs, then tell us! We're both
currently very busy with schoolwork, but once things get smoother, expect the
updates to be often.

Stuff Planned: Better organization/design.
               Multiplayer Strategies.
               More Walkthroughs.
               More stuff, period!
