Version History
---------------

V0.1a

* - This is the first version of the FAQ, I don't own the game yet
but I have beaten the japanese version. I'm taking most of the
information in this FAQ from a Nintendo Power Issues (Jan 2000)
Lots of this information (escpecially names) could be changed
when the actual game is released, i'm just taking what i know
of the japanese version and the information in Nintendo Power
    to write this FAQ.

Introduction
------------

Dragon Warrior Monsters, the English release of the extremely
successful Japanese game Dragon Quest Monsters. It's been quite
a few years since a Dragon Warrior game has been released in the US.
But what a great one to bring over, following in the ways of the
pokemon games but much more advanced and with Dragon Warrior Charm,
(not to mention just all around better than Pokemon) You guide one
of the heroes from Dragon Quest 6 as a child on a great adventure.
His name is Terry, one night when Terry and his Sister Mileyu
(Subject to change in the actual game, eidos says Milayou and
Milee are her names on their site? And Nintendo Power doesn't
mention a name at all, just calls her Terry's Sister) are
falling asleep, a strange creature named Warabou appears and kidnaps
Mileyu! In distress Terry's searches the house for her only to be
greeted by a strange creature hiding in his dresser named Watabou.
Terry follows the creature and is warped to a new world, known as
GreatTree. There he speaks with the King about his situation. The
King says he will help, but only if Terry will brave the many monster
infested dungeons and become a Monster Master. Then, he must win the
annual Starry Night Tournament.

Notes about the Game
--------------------

After winning certain tournaments, the tree will grow. Visit the new
places, they will come in handy.

There are around 217 monsters in the entire game, give or take a few.

There are 10 Monster Families.

After beating the game a whole slew of bonus dungeons open up, each
having a Monster Family theme to them, the further you get the tougher
the monsters in that family you'll have to fight.

The bosses you fight that join you aren't random, they are preset so
don't waste meat trying to catch some of them.

You can only have 3 monsters in your party at once.

You catch monsters with Meat, the more expensive the better. You MUST
first feed the group of monsters that contains the monster you want to
catch, then you must kill that monster last. If your lucky, he'll ask
to join you.

More to come...

Places in GreatTree
-------------------

The Throne Room -

Everytime you die or win a dungeon or tournament, you are
brought here to speak with the king. He will tell you some various information
and send you off again. There are 2 staircases in this room, one leading to the
dungeons and one leading to the Monster Daycare.

Monster Daycare -

Here you can leave and pick up various monsters you meet. Whenever you catch a monster
in the dungeons but you already have 3 in your party, you can choose to automatically
send one of your 3 monsters to the Daycare or the one you just caught. The monsters
that are resting in the daycare will also get a small % of experience that you gain
along your travels, but they do not learn their special skills then. Be sure to check
out this place carefully, there is a warp to a dungeon here and other various secrets. Not
to mention the cool place where you can talk to various monsters.

Library -

Here you can read anything and everything about the monsters you have caught. Once you have
100 entries in the library, a secret dungeon will be opened up.

Bazaar -

You can buy various things here, also there is a warp hidden here too, which requires
a certain monster.

The Vault -

Here you can leave your items and money for safe-keeping. When you die in the dungeons,
whatever money you have is cut in half and you'll loose all of the items you are holding.

Breeding Shrine -

Probably the most important place in the game, here you will breed the various monsters
you catch. Once you breed a monster, you cannot go back. So be careful and make sure it's the
monster you want. The monsters you want to mate need to be at least at level 10.
The more you breed a monster's lineage, the stronger it becomes and the
faster it will raise levels. You will know this by the number it adds to the name such as +2 or +4.
When there is a Star by the name, it means that monsters is maxed out in levels. I recommend you breed
a monster with a star by it's name with another high-level monster for some powerful offspring. When
you mate two monsters they're offspring is made up of their combined stats cut into 1/4 i believe,
but I could be wrong and I'm sure I am. Of course you can only mate male and female monsters. In fact,
the very order is very important. Here's and example -

Let's just say that...

A Male Gremlin + a Female Slime = Watabou

Well if you mate...

A Female Slime + a Male Gremlin you would get something completely different.

There's a lot to the shrine breeding game, in further faqs i'll add more.

The Egg Lady -

Whenever you hatch a egg you have no control over the sex of it right? Wrong,
even though TV's don't even exist in GreatTree, the Egg Lady has mastered
giving a certain sex to a monster egg before it's even born. Crazy eh?
But that's not all, she can also tell you what the sex of the egg is before
it's born. All this for a small fee. She will come in handy big time later on
when you need a male monster to mate with some female monster to get say... a Dragonlord?

Onto the next section!...

Once you beat the game, 9 new dungeons will open up to you, each having only monsters from
a particular family in them, and at the end of the dungeon you will face a boss character from
a past Dragon Warrior/Quest Game. Good luck! These dungeons are tough.

Each dungeon is completely random, everytime you play it, it will be different. There are certain
things and items and people in dungeons though you will come across randomly. Items can be Potions,
meats, small medals, bells, bookmarks, wings of wyvern, wands, and various other things. There are 4 people
you will run into. Whatever level your at determines how tough their monsters are that you will fight, except
there's a point when there's stay weaker than yours when you get to higher levels. I'll describe them...

Soldier -

Probably the most common, hopefully i can get a list of the various monsters each of these 4 havee
at certain levels in the future versoin of this faq. When you beat him, he'll give you a random item.

Warrior -

Uncommon, a lot alike the soldier, he also gives a random item when beaten.

Priest -

Rare, this guy can be a life-saver when your 24 floors deep in the dungeon and almost dead.
Defeat him and he will completely revive you.

Wizard -

Extremely Rare, I've only seen this guy a few times in all my playing sessions, beat him and he'll
warp you very close to the end of the dungeon.

Places in the dungeons
----------------------

You can save and do whatever in these dungeons, very handy, even if you just need to save.

Shop - Here you can buy various items, but you can also sell them for the actual prices of the
stuff. Instead of only half in the bazaar, you can make a fortune hear selling wands.

Treasure Room - Here you'll either find tons of treasure, or tons of Mimic's. Watch out! You'll
know when your in a mimic room because every chest except one will be a Mimic.

Church - Hear a priest will revive you completely, very nice, escpiecally before a boss.

Arena - Here you will battle through 3 battles of random monsters, if you make it through that
you will be asked if you want to continue or quit. If you quit you go to the next level
of the dungeon. If you continue you can win various items. Not worth it though in my
	opinion.

The Big Arena
-------------

Here is where the big events of the game take place, in the Arena section of the tree castle.
There are various Class's you can participate in for a price. You can try as many times as you
like. If you lose the only thing you lose is your money, you don't actually "die". Beating the
tournaments in certain classes will carry out certain events like usually opening up a new dungeon
or two. But intresting things will happen here...

G-Class

Round 1 - Dracky(Drakee),Anteater,Dracky
Round 2 - Slime,Stubsuck,Slime
Round 3 - Spooky,Hork,Spooky

F-Class

Round 1 - Spot Slime (x3)
Round 2 - Mud Doll,Almiraj,Mud Doll
Round 3 - Skull Raven,Putrepup,Skullroo

E-Class

Round 1 - Crestpent,Tree Slime,Poisongon
Round 2 - Drak Slime,Dragon,Fairy Drak
Round 3 - Snaily,Armorpede,Snaily

D-Class

Round 1 - Saccer,Florajay,Mad Plant
Round 2 - Medusa Eye,Mad Gopher,Medusa Eye
Round 3 - Mad Cat,RogueNite,Mad Cat

C-Class

Round 1 - SpikyBoy,StubBird,SpikyBoy
Round 2 - Healer,RogueNite,Healer
Round 3 - Box Slime,Rock Slime,Box Slime

B-Class

Round 1 - Hammerman (x3)
Round 2 - AgDevil,WindMerge,TreeBoy
Round 3 - Army Crab,MadDragon,Army Crab

A-Class

Round 1 - Fire Weed,Evil Beast,Wyvern
Round 2 - Grizzly,Lionex,Grizzly
Round 3 - Toadstool,Lipsy,Toadstool

I think there is one more arena battle they don't talk about. You will fight one hard adversary
after the A-Class that has a Metal King, and then in the Shooting Star Tournament you will fight
another adversary to save your sister who is very tough and has a Golden Slime!

Monster Families
----------------

Every monster belongs to one of the ten families that there are, each family has certain
abilities, here is a description of the family and example of a monster from that family.

Devil Family -

This monster family has the following traits: High HP,Attack, and Defense. They can withstand
strong Magic Attacks and some special skills. Demonites belong to this family.

Bug Family -

The Bug Family is very strong against poison attacks and have great capacity for increasing
their attack and defense strengths. Droll from Dragon Warrior 1 is in this family.

Slime Family -

The Slime Family may seem weak, but is one of the better families. The Healer can support the
other monsters while the High Defense of the Metal King and Gold Slime can come in handy, unfortunately
these two suffer from low hp. Others in the family however grow rapidly and are quick.

Dragon Family -

High in all areas, escpecially defensively against fire and blizzard attacks, the Dragon Family
is a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, they go quite slowly. Battle Rex is in this family.

Beast Family -

The beast families specialty is to resist most special skills that lower level monsters can
dish out. They are also good attackers and have high HP. Anteater's are in this family.

Bird Family -

Speedy and growing rapidly, the birds are one of the fastest families. And are the
strongest against thunder attacks. Wyverns are in this family.

Plant Family -

Plants are the smartest of the bunch, as they have the highest intelliigence and MP of the
families. But their agility is low, but then again they can grow to very high levels. Bean Man
is in this family.

Zombie Family -

This group has strong HP levels, but on everything else are just average,
and are weak against paralysis. Horks are in this family.

Materials Family -

Being made from mainly non-living things, the material family has high resistence
against fire and ice and good defense overall. Golems are in this family.

Boss Family -

Remember all the old bosses from the Dragon Warrior/Quest Games? You can get them!
They're pretty tough to come by though. But of course, they are the strongest of
all the families, if you get one on your team considier yourself lucky. Dragonlord
is in this family.

Monster List
------------

Here is a list of all the monsters with a rating of their abilities, 5 stars
being the best and a list of some special skills they learn at certain levels.
Of course if you breed monsters, the following information could be way wrong.
Remember this is only 3 of the abilities the monsters will learn. There's others
they will learn too, usually upgrades. Also a monster can only know so many spells.
If it knows all it can and it learns a new spell, you will have to forget one of the
other spells or forget the one you just gained. Choose wisely.
