Pokemon: Leaf Green - Strategy Guide (Page 05)
Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Pokemon: Leaf Green - Strategy Guide (Page 05).
Before you leave, be sure to get Metronome from the scientist in the second
room. It's a novel skill that randomly selects a different attack or defense
whenever you use it. It can be really effective, but you can also get screwed
in the process.
The sole purpose of the Pokémon Mansion is to hide the key you need to get
into the Cinnabar Island Gym. The quickest way to get it is to run straight
into the mansion and take the first stairway up. Then, move to the northwest
corner and take the stairs up to the third floor. Examine the statue you see
to the right. Every statue in this building has a hidden switch on it, so be
sure to check them all. This will open up the door in the south of this room.
Jump off the balcony and take the stairs down to the building's basement. You
should have no problem finding the Secret Key here (just remember to check
the statues).
After you've got the key, be sure to explore the whole mansion to find
valuable items. If the constant random attacks are annoying you, just use a
repellant.
The items are:
--------------------------------
Escape Rope.........First Floor
Carbos..............First Floor
Protein.............First Floor
Zinc................Second Floor
Calcium.............Second Floor
Max Potion..........Third Floor
Iron................Third Floor
HP Up...............Third Floor
TM 14 (Blizzard)....Basement
TM 22 (Solar Beam)..Basement
Full Restore........Basement
Rare Candy..........Basement
Secret Key..........Basement
After getting all the items, exit and you can now enter the seventh gym! Heal
of course first.

A rather unorthadox gym. You can either fight the trainers, or answer
the questions in the quiz machines near them. If you want to know, the
answeres are YES, NO, NO, YES, NO (If someone can confirm this, this was
taken out of the Gameboy version). Once you are at the end, talk to Blaine
to start the battle.

This battle is VERY hard for me and my pokemon. His Growlithe and Ponyta
are a piece of cake, but Rapidash and Arcanine (ESPECIALLY Arcanine) are
gonna give you some problems. Rapidash is very ruthless with Take Down and
Fire blast, so be careful. If you have full heal, then use those if your
pokemon get burned.

Arcanine will burn your team up (literally!) if you don't watch your back,
so quickly kill it with water, ground, or rock techniques. Arcanine will
use Extremespeed, the equivilant of Quick attack, but more powerful and
supposedly "faster" than Quick attack. Blaine has a couple of potions (not
regular potions, of course!) because he wants to frustrate you. He did it
to me, but I turned out to be ok. After a long fought battle, a victory
will get you the Volcano badge, the seventh in the world! Money: 4653

'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
Once you beat Blaine, you will receive the Volcano Badge and TM38 (Fire Blast).
When you exit the Gym, Bill will show up and take you to One Island. If you
agree to go, get on the speedboat with him. Do it, for EXP and something else.
I'm going to continue on with the next gym, and if you want the islands 1 to 3
walkthrough, go to my Island walkthrough section.

--|-|---------------------------------------------------------------------|-|--
After defeating Blaine, it's time to head north. As you surf your way towards
Pallet Town, you encounter nine trainers, some in the water, others awaiting
your challenge on two small islands. Since you should have quite a powerful
Electric type by now, it would be stupid not to fight them all and gain
experience points.
You should arrive in Pallet Town without any problems. Once you're there,
heal your Pokémon and immediately continue on to Viridian City for your last
gym battle.

O============================================================================O
The previously locked Viridian City Gym is now open for business -- and
inside, you'll see a familiar face: Giovanni. Assemble a team consisting of
Water, Psychic and Ground Pokémon to best Giovanni's fearsome five and you
should be able to win Giovanni's prize, the Earth Badge and TM27 (Fissure).

But before you can get to Giovanni, you need to fight some of his cronies.
Pit Ground Pokémon against their Poison types, Water against Ground, and
Psychics against Fighting Pokémon. I suggest taking them all out before you
go up against Giovanni. Simply start by going left, then come back and go up
and left (the right path is a dead end). Lastly, return to the beginning and
go up the rightmost path. Giovanni awaits you in the upper left corner of the
gym. Just follow the trail of trainers and you'll be there in no time. Get

Well, your rival's finally added a new pokemon to his amazing arsenal. His
Rhyhorn is a lot better than Giovanni's, and has many powerful attacks,
such as Fissure. It can OHKO you but has a really low accuracy rate. Grass
and Water attacks work best. His Pidgeot is basically the same, and so is
Gyarados. Use electric attacks on both of them. His Exeggcute is still weak
as ever, and fire attacks will KO him quickly. Growlithe is still okay, its
not strong, but not easy. Basic type matchups will defeat it.

Alakazam is what you need to worry about. It knows Psychic, which is the
second most powerful Psychic attack in the game. Put that together with his
unbelievably high special attack stat and results are devastating. Dark
moves will be convenient, but again, strong constant physical attacks will
work. His starter is the same, with a couple of new attacks.

'----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
Once you have beaten Rival, rest, save and move on to Victory Road on the west
end of Route 22 (that connects to 23).
--|-|---------------------------------------------------------------------|-|--
| | - Victory Road - | |
--|-|---------------------------------------------------------------------|-|--
Congratulations. This is the final stretch! You should assemble a party
composed of your most powerful Pokémon -- one of which has to know the
Strength technique. Don't forget to stock up on health power-ups and be sure
to bring a powerful Water type (equipped with Surf or a similar strong Water
attack) since most wild Pokémon you'll encounter in this dungeon are Ground
types. In order to get through Victory Road, you need to do some old-
fashioned rock pushing. The puzzles are exceedingly simple if you know what
to do. Just push the boulders onto the round switches to clear the path. To
get the items on the first floor, you need to push the rock so that it blocks
one of the items. To get the other item, simply leave the room and come back
(this resets the rocks).
The only tricky part is the block puzzle on the second floor. There is no
block here to push onto the switch. No problem. Go to the third floor and
push the boulder there into the hole in the ground. Jump through the hole and
you'll find yourself on the second floor. Now you can push the boulder onto
the switch. Although it looks confusing, the dungeon is actually linear.
Follow the trail of trainers and ladders to the exit and you'll find yourself
on Indigo Plateau. Remember to save often.
The following Items are available on Victory Road:
TM02 (Dragon Claw): First Floor
Rare Candy: First Floor
TM37 (Sandstorm): Second Floor
Full Heal: Second Floor
TM07 (Hail): Second Floor
Guard Spec: Second Floor
TM50 (): Third Floor
Max Revive: Third Floor

You've made it. The final battle is just around the corner -- but first, you
have to defeat the infamous Elite Four. Before you continue, stop at the Poké

got a high level Water/Ice type, definitely bring it). Zapdos and Articuno are
obviously great choices, but don't forget about the likes of Alakazam, Jolteon,
Blastoise, Cloyster and Gyarados. Jolteon's Pin Missile attack will prove its
elf worthy against the Psychic types you will encounter in the final battle.

I'd just like to point out that this guy's still using Pidgeot. Granted,
it's a unbelievably high level Pidgeot, but still a Pidgeot. Zap it. Also,
he finally evolved the stupid Rhyhorn to a Rhydon, but it's still a Rock/
Ground and still insanely weak to water and grass. The rest of his team is
quite familiar, but his starter is the real trouble. It's jumped ten levels
since your last meeting, and it's much, much more powerful. Exploit
whatever its weakness may be should he bring it out.

Gyarados is, as always, electric fodder. Arcanine now likes to spam
ExtremeSpeed, and Alakazam is dangerous, but still weak against physical
attacks. While your Rival seems to be able to yank Full Restores directly
out of his ass, his team is still mostly pushovers bolstered only by their

I still whooped him soundly. You'll recieve 6435 dollars for being

|/ \_|================================================================|_/ \|
O============================================================================O
--- 7.01 - Island 1 --- (0701)
O============================================================================O
Once you get to the island, Bill will take you to see Celio, who is in charge
of the island. In order to get the network of PCs running, he needs the help
of Bill. Since it'll take Bill some time to get the machine going, he asks
you to do a favor and take a Meteorite to Two Island. Celio will give you the
Tri-Pass to get around between islands. For now, head to Two Island
(discussed below).
When you return to One Island, go back to the Pokémon Center and talk to
Bill. He tells you the PCs are all linked up now. He'll take you back to the
mainland, and tell you that as long as you have a Tri-Pass, you can always go
there from Vermilion Port.
Return to One Island and move south, hop in the water to explore Treasure
Beach to the south. On the way, you'll run into a trainer.
On the beach itself, use the Itemfinder to locate some fresh goodies. When
you're done, Surf back up to town and head east down the sandy Kindle Road.
--|-|---------------------------------------------------------------------|-|--
| | - Kindle Road - | |
--|-|---------------------------------------------------------------------|-|--
Plop back into the water here. Go face the single trainer on the island to
the east.
When you're done with Abigail, head north to rejoin Kindle Road. Follow it
north towards Mt. Ember. In the weeds here, try to get your hands on a
Ponyta. As you continue north, you'll encounter:
Continue north, ignoring the stairs to the right for now. Instead, continue
over to the beach to the east and battle the trainer there.
Surf down the coast to find a Max Repel, then go back north, go back to the
beach and head north to battle the next trainers:
When you're done with these guys, go inside the Ember Spa and talk to the old
man at the north end of the cave. He'll give you HM06 (Rock Smash). This will
allow you to smash all of the barricading rocks around the island. Before
you leave the cave, slip into the hot spring and restore your energy and that
of your team.
Return to the first part of the Road. Just past Bryce, go up the steps and
work your way down the long platform heading south. On the southern tip,
you'll run into another trainer running in circles:
Once past her, use Rock Smash on the two boulders here to get to the Carbos.
Return north and smash the three rocks in a row on the beach to get to an
Ether. Once you have it, head north again and go past the Spa. There is
another trainer on the beach here.
Plop back into the water and Surf to the north, and you'll come across:
When you finish with this last trainer, swim north to Mt. Ember.
--|-|---------------------------------------------------------------------|-|--
| | - Mt. Ember - | |
--|-|---------------------------------------------------------------------|-|--
At the top of the stairs, talk to the hiker to teach one of your Pokemon
Explosion. If you want it, learn it. Then move left and move the boulders to
get through. Battle the trainer you meet on the other side:
Continue until you reach a set of stairs and go up. Head to the right and
move to the second staircase and go up it. Here you'll meet another trainer.
Once she falls, go up the stairs to the north, take a left, go down the
stairs and then head north to another trainer encounter.
Head north into the cave entrance and be sure to put a Water-type in the
front of your party. You're about to run into a bunch of Geodudes. Keep
working through the cave until you reach the exit. When you come back out, go
to the left and move up a couple sets of stairs to reach the lair of the
third legendary bird Pokemon... Moltres!
Moltres > Catching Difficulty: Very Hard
----------------------------------------
When you arrive, push the right boulder up one spot, the left boulder over to
the left one spot. Now, push the middle boulder left, the upper boulder up
and all the way to the right. By now you should see Moltres. Save your game
before taking on Moltres. As always, try to wear him down before making with
the Ultra Balls. Once you've caught the fiery bird, exit the lair and check
the remainder of the mountain to find a Dire Hit and collect a rare Rapidash.
O============================================================================O
--- 7.02 - Island 2 --- (0702)
O============================================================================O
When you arrive on Two Island, make sure you head south and use Cut on the
small tree to get the Revive. Stop by the Pokémon Center if you need to, then
explore what the island has to offer.
The Shop
At the north end of the island, you'll find an open air shop. They stock only
Great Balls (600) and Fresh Water (200). Be sure to pick up some Great Balls
in order to catch some unique Pokémon on this and other islands.
You'll find this chap in the house with the purple roof.
Game Corner/ Quest For Lostelle
Go into the building next to the Move Maniac's and talk to the man inside
(it's a Game Corner, but isn't currently running any games). The man is
looking for his missing daughter, Lostelle, who is on Three Island. To get
there, go back to the boat and head over to Three Island. You needn't go
right away. When you rescue her from Three Island's Berry Forest, you'll
immediately be transported back here. When the quest is over, give the
Metorite to the guy and he'll give you a Moon Stone. He'll also get the Game
Corner up and running.
Leave and come back and Game Corner will be ready. There are two separate
games offered: Pokémon Jump and Dodrio Berry Picking. In order to play,
you'll need a friend to hook up via the Wireless Communication System.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Pokémon jump, you make your Pokémon skip a vine whip with the A Button.
Only mini Pokémon around 28 inches or less may participate. Pokémon that only
swim, burrow or fly are not good at jumping. As a result, those Pokémon may
not participate.
Command Dodrio's three heads to catch falling Berries. Press right, up, or
left on the Control Pad to move the heads. To play this game, you must have a
Dodrio. If you have one, even on the PC, you can get it... there is a PC to
the right of the counter. If you do not have a Dodrio, you can find one in
the Safari Zone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cape Brink
----------
To the east of the shop is Cape Brink. Follow the path up. Fish in the water
for a shot at Poliwags and more. In the tall grass beyond, you can find
Oddish, Persian, Golduck, and more. At the top of the area is a small
building. The woman there will teach Hydro Cannon to a Water Pokémon in the
first position, so make sure you have a Pokémon that fits the bill and talk
to her.
O============================================================================O
--- 7.03 - Island 3 --- (0703)
O============================================================================O
When you arrive at Three Island, you will see a woman on the beach being
harassed by a pair of bikers. You can't do anything about it yet, so check
out the cave. Go inside the cave to find a guy prospecting for gold.
Now move into town. There is a collection of bikers trying to take over. Move
up next to the Pokémon Center to bust up the rumble. You know what that
means!
When you beat them, the goons will leave. Talk to the nearby villager to get
a Full Restore for your trouble. The other one will tell you that Lostelle
went off to Bond Bridge. Head north. At the north end of town, cut the bush
to the east to open a path. It leads to a hidden Zinc.
Pokémon Mart
This island has its own Mart. Here's what's available:
.----------------------------.
Island 3 Pokemart

Hyper Potion..........1200
Revive................1500
Escape Rope............550
Full Heal..............600
Max Repel..............700
'----------------------------'
Bond Bridge
Head to the north end of town, then west to find Bond Bridge. The various
platforms here are home to several battles.
At the end of the beach, head up the steps and into the Berry Forest.
Berry Forest
The Berry Forest is quite large, but in order to get around, you'll need to
cut down bushes. Don't forget that you can Surf across ponds as well to get
to hard-to-reach places. As far as Items, you can score the following:
Full Heal
Max Elixir
In the northwest corner of the Berry Forest, you'll find Lostelle. She's
scared and wants her dad. Battle the Hypno that she's afraid of, and when
you're victorious, she'll give you the Iapapa Berry. After this, you'll
immediately be whisked back to Two Island. If you want to get more out of the
Berry Forest, take the shuttle back and scour the woods for goodies!
Getting to Four Island
----------------------
Getting to Four Island requires you do a number of things. First off, you
need to beat the Elite Four. Once that's accomplished, make sure you have 60
Pokemon caught and go visit Prof. Oak. He'll give you another task... to go
look for special Pokemon species that cannot be found in Kanto. He'll upgrade
your Pokedex to a National Pokedex, allowing you to record information on
even more species. Once you have this, head to One Island (or, if you're
already there and fulfill the appropriate criteria),. talk to Bill in the
Pokemon Center, and go to Mt. Ember to find the gem he's looking for.
When you arrive at Mt. Ember, head to the right and battle the two Rocket
Team Grunts guarding the cave entrance.
Team Rocket Grunt
-----------------
Ratatta, Lv. 35
Raticate, Lv. 35
Sandshrew, Lv. 35
Sandslash, Lv. 35
Team Rocket Grunt
-----------------
Cubone, Lv. 37
Marowak, Lv. 37
When you beat both trainers, they will step away from the cave entrance. Go
west and take the ladder down, then keep moving to the next ladder. On the
next floor down, use Strength to move the boulders. Make sure you don't push
the middle boulder to the right. Instead, go up and around to get to the
ladder to the south. On the next floor down, push the boulder right and down
to get past. At the split in the path, go south (not east, as that is the way
out). Push the single stone down the long path toward the small waterfalls
and go down the stairs, then down the ladder. When you arrive below, you'll
see several encrypted messages. Ingnore them for now and go down the ladder
to grab the Ruby below.
Go back to the east path and follow the ladders out of this cave. Return to
the Pokemon Center and speak to Bill. He'll take your Tri Pass and Town Map
and replace it with the Rainbow Pass and ask you to go to the Sevii Islands.
Take the Pass to the dock and sail to Four Island.

Once you arrive at Four Island, you will be greeted by none other than
Gary... your annoying rival. When he runs off, move up the beach and use Rock
Smash to bust the rock. This will give you access to a Star Piece. Once you
have it, move up the stairs and into town.

Go to the building next to the PC and you will find a Sticker maniac. Talk to
this person to get stickers for your accomplishments. Since you're in the
Hall of Fame, you will get that sticker first.
Next to the Day Care is a Move Tutor who will teach one of your Pokemon Body
Slam. Teach the move to a Pokemon if you wish...
Pokemon Day Care
----------------
In the northwest corner of the city is the Day Care. Head inside to chat up
the Day Care Lady. If you need to grow a Pokemon's levels, you can leave it
here and check on it later. Or, you can leave two Pokemon here so that they
breed and produce a different kind of Pokemon altogether.
Icefall Cave
------------
Head to the eastern side of town and go down the stairs. Surf on the water
and collect the Stardust on the grassy lip near the water. Surf north to find
the cave entrance. In the first room, Surf north and exit through the opening
in the ice.
This is called Icefall Cave for a reason. If you step on a square of ice
twice, you'll fall down a level. Make your way to the north end of the cave
and deliberately fall through the single square of ice here. Once downstairs,
take the ladder up. Fall through the ice to the east to find yourself on the
sheet of ice below. Skate down, then to the right to get to the Nevermelt
Ice. Return back upstairs. Now go through the more southern ice square. Skate
up, right, then down to get to the southern end of the ice patch. Grab the
Full Restore past the ladder, then return to it and go up. Upstairs, you will
get the HM07 (Waterfall). Teach it to a Pokemon and head back out to the
previous cave. Face the waterfall and use your new skill. This will raise you
to the upper level of the cave.
Go down the ladder, then into the nearby cave. Here, you will find Lorelei,
who is being harassed by some Grunts. Help her out by handling them:
Team Rocket Grunt
-----------------
Zubat, Lv. 38
Zubat, Lv. 38
Golbat, Lv. 38
The Grunts cough up the location of Rocket headquarters, where they are
running their Pokemon poaching scheme from. Head to Six Island to find it.

--- 7.05 - Island 5 --- (0705)
O============================================================================O
Once you're on Island 5, you'll see that the main town is very small. There's
not even a Mart or anything interesting to see. Just go in the Pokemon Center
and make sure you have only 5 Pokemon. Go up to the western border and make
your way west to reach a small island. There, talk to the old man to get a
Togepi egg.
If you go up instead of West from the mainland, you will end up in a different
part of the water. You'll see an empty house. Ignore that and keep going along
the path. Soon, you will reach a cave. Go in. This will be a weird cave in
which you must choose the right exit in order to proceed or you will end up
back in the beginning again.
Note: Staryu/Shellder can only be found fishing while standing on the main
island.
The encounter rate here is so low it's depressing. I suppose it helps for
those trying to do the puzzle, but that lessens your chance of getting your
rare exclusive. The easiest way to find them would be to use Sweet Scent.
To exit, go:
Right, up, down, down, right, left, down, right, and up.
