|Introduction to Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories I01|
==========================================================================
**************
*General Info*
**************
Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories is the direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts for
the Playstation 2. Contrary to beliefs, Kingdom Hearts 2, which will be coming
out sometime next year, is NOT the DIRECT sequel to Kingdom Hearts. The order
in which the storyline happens is:
Kingdom Hearts ---> Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories ---> Kingdom Hearts 2
Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories is an Action RPG for the GBA. It uses a card
type battle system, in which you attack and use magic cards for spells,
summons, and other things.

In the field you can do numerous things. This is where you go to different
areas and places, get items, start battles, talk to people, etc. Most crates
and boxes in the field are breakable and contain health or other goodies. To
open doors and such, strike them with the keyblade.
************
*The Battle*
************
In battle, you use cards to do your moves. There are four card types: attack,
magic, item, and enemy. There are two categories, one in which the first three
are found, and the other which is home solely to enemy cards. You can move
around in battle, target enemies, etc. You must cycle through your cards to use
them. For instance, to attack, you must choose a keyblade card. To use magic,
you must select a certain magic card, etc. Every time a card is used, it
vanishes. After all the cards are used, you are powerless. At this point, you
must select the card refill icon and hold A until you get all your cards back,
then you continue the fight.

|Frequently Asked Questions FAQ|
==========================================================================
Q: I'm getting "You do not have enough CP" at the Review Deck screen. What
can I do?
A: CP is your Card Points. Placing cards in a deck take up card points.
If you don't have enough, you can't use all of the selected cards. You
can view your CP in the window of the deck you're using. It is
displayed as follows:
CP [Amount used] / [Max CP]
You can get more CP by leveling up and choosing to upgrade your CP.
Q: How do I beat [insert name]?
A: I just reccomend using the Sleights I listed and leveling up some more.
Q: I can't find [insert map card]! What do I do?
A: Just keep fighting and it'll eventually be dropped.
NOTE UPDATE: You can hold up to 99 map cards. If you have that amount,
you must discard some before you get anymore from battle.
Q: I can't get a Key to Rewards card. Where are they?
A: This is dropped randomly by defeated enemies.
Q: Add [insert something] to your guide?
A: I'll think about it.
Q: I can't seem to get a Blue 1 card I need for the last door in Castle
Oblivion, can you help?
A: Sadly, you can only keep fighting and hoping an enemy will drop one.
NOTE UPDATE: You can hold up to 99 map cards. If you have that amount,
you must discard some before you get anymore from battle.
Q: Do you have some special tips?
A: Thanks to Julien Kwan (but rewrote by me), I do:
TIP #1 - As far as I know, the Key to Rewards map card is only dropped
from Floor 7 and above. (This is only for Sora's story.)
TIP #2 - If you like using your new cards in your deck, then when
leveling up, get CP twice, then HP, and keep alternating.
Like so... LEVEL 2>CP - LEVEL 3>CP - LEVEL 4>HP - LEVEL 5>CP
and so on.
TIP #3 - For the fourth (I believe) fight with Dark Riku, put high
numbered attack cards and some 0 cards in your deck. Use the
0 cards as backups to Card Break his Sleights like Dark Aura.
TIP #4 - For bosses, use mainly high numbered cards and 0 cards.
TIP #5 - In Castle Oblivion for the final time, its best to make Room
15 (according to my guide) into a Save Room. (Sora's story
only)
TIP #6 - As a general tip, before the fight with Marluxia, try going
back and recreating rooms and continuing your fights. Try
your hardest to level up and max out your HP and get all the
Sleights. (Sora's story only)

||-WARNING WARNING WARNING-||
|| THERE WILL BE SPOILERS! ||
||-WARNING WARNING WARNING-||
--------
After the opening scene, we find our heros - Sora, Donald, and Goofy - inside
an unfamiliar place:
_________________________
_____CASTLE OBLIVION_____CASOBL
---CUTSCENE---
A little conversation begins about the inhabitants of this place. Donald says
that he feels that the presence of King Mickey is lingering, and Sora says
that he also feels the same including that he thinks Riku is here too.
You are about to go and explore when Goofy turns around and see's a frightening
cloaked figure, the same seen in the opening movie. The figure walks forward
and vanishes. The party runs near where he was, only to have him reappear
behind them. They turn around and prepare for battle, questioning who he is.
Donald immediately makes the assumption that he is a Heartless, and tries to
use Thunder on him. It doesn't work. He tries again and fails. Falling back on
his other spells Fire and Blizzard, he fails yet again. For some reason, he
cannot use his magic. The figure explains that once they stepped in the castle,
they forgot every spell and ability they knew. He states that in this castle,
to find is to lose and to lose is to find. That is the way of things in Castle
Oblivion, so he says.
The party is confused. The figure says that here you will see people you know,
people you miss. Sora tries to say that he misses no one, but then stops. He
shouts that Riku is here, questioning the cloaked man. The man asks if he wants
to find him. He says that if he does... then does a weird afterimage teleport
and goes right through Sora. Even though he went towards the front of the hall,
he appears in the way back, at another door leading further into the castle.
Sora questions what he did, and the figure responds that he sampled his
memories and made something out of them. He says it is the key to reuniting
with those you hold dear. He throws Sora a card. Sora questions, "a card?"
The figure says it is a promise. He tells Sora to use it and press on, and that
he will find his friend.
He tells Sora to hold the card before him, and the door to a new world will
open. You are told that on this screen you must use the arrows to choose a card
and to confirm with A. For now, select the only card you have, the card of a
different - but this one familiar - place: Traverse Town. Sora asks if he is
doing it right. The figure tells him that he is, and tells him to go.
"To lose and claim anew, or to claim anew only to lose..."
He vanishes, and you go through the door.
_______________________
_____TRAVERSE TOWN_____TRATOW
---CUTSCENE---
Sora exclaims that it can't be right for they are in Traverse Town. The figure
reappears and tells him that he is not seeing reality. He is only seeing the
memory of what is on that card. His memory of Traverse Town is sealed inside
the card the figure gave him. Jiminy Cricket tells Sora to forget that and
that they need to find Donald and Goofy. Sora asks the figure what he did with
them, and he explains back that they are at the mercy of the cards now. He says
to master the cards, and they will be his again.
The figure challenges you to a fight:
He tells Sora that the laws of the castle require that Donald and Goofy were
turned into cards. He throws Donald (in form of a card) towards Sora, and says
if he values his friends, then he will pick them up without fail. You can now
use the Control Pad to move if you want.He then gives you a tutorial of the
battle system. Cards you pick up are added to the top of your stack. Use them
and your friends will come to your aid. Now press A to select Donald's card.
Donald will appear and use Fire on the figure. He says that used cards will
vanish but reappear to aid you time and again. "Cards are the hearts of your
friends," he tells Sora. "Everything in this castle is ruled by cards. Whether
an enemy or a door stands in your way, cards are the only way to proceed. But
you mustn't forget your own strength." Now use B to jump, and tap either Left
or Right twice to Dodge Roll. The figure says to think for yourself first, then
use the cards.
Now make sure the blue circle is locked on him and quickly keep tapping A to
attack him thrice in a row. He compliments you, and says every move you make
causes a card to dissapear. If you use up every card, you will be unable to
act. He tells you there is a solution, then says to use up all your cards and
he will tell you. So do so. Target him and keep attacking.
"There. You have no more cards, and without them, no power. If you want that
power back, you must focus. Bid the cards to return to you, and they will."
Now to reload the cards. To reload cards, select the reload icon and hold A.
Do so now. Hold A and the crown card icon will refill. Soon the screen flashes
and you see all the cards return.
"The strength of your heart brought back the lost cards. You can recall spent
cards any time - you only need to wish it. But each time you do, the cards will
take longer to return. The cards are by no means unlimited. Use them wisely.
Anticipate the flow of battle and choose the most effective cards. You may use
any card in your deck."
Now, cycle the cards use L and R.
"The four card types you can use in battle are grouped into two wider
categories. The first categoy includes attack cards, magic cards, and item
cards. The second category consists entirely of enemy cards. To use a card from
a different category -"
Press Select to switch categories. Press it again.
"Cards will empower you whether you are attacking or defending. But it is up
to you to decide when to attack and when to defend. Do not forget it.
The tutorial ends.
You are back in Traverse Town, with Goofy and Donald. They talk about what
happened. They don't remember. Suddenly everyone notices that Donald and
Goofy's clothes have changed. Sora asks if it is the cards, and the figure
tells him that that is for him to ponder. He says to master the cards and make
his way through the castle. From here on, he walks alone. He says that Donald
and Goofy can't come with him. He must go all alone. Sora says that he will be
fine.
"Hmm, the hero speaks so boldly. Go, then. The rest of Castle Oblivion awaits.
Walk the avenues of latent memory, and you shall meet someone dear to you."
He vanishes. Jiminy says he's got a bad feeling, and Sora says he's ready for
any tricks. He says how hard can it be to figure out the cards.
Now, instructions for the field appears. D-pad moves, A swings the keyblade,
and B jumps. To open doors, strike them with the keyblade.
You obtain the Key of Beginnings and are set off.
-
---Key of Beginnings---
Take this time to test the controls. Afterwards, strike the door. Here we
see the Room Synthesis menu. To proceed on, you need Map Cards. You must use
Map Cards to synthesize new, unexplored areas. You use the D-pad to select
a card, A to confirm, and B to cancel.
Now, select the Moment's Reprieve card. It is explained that the number you see
in the middle of the screen is the criterion to open it. The criterion now
shown explains that the door will open with a value of 1 or greater. You need
to pick a card that meets this criterion. Cards have marked values of 0 to 9.
Zero cards are special cards that meet all criteria. The card marked without a
value is a keycard. Keycards only open special doors.
Press A to use the Moment's Reprieve on the door. It opens. We are now
officially in Traverse Town.
---Moment's Reprieve---
Go up the ladder to see a Save Point. You can use these to save your game
progress and load it from the main menu later on. Stand near it and press A
to activate it. Now save your game. You will now see 1F above Traverse Town,
representing that you are on the floor 1. Your level is shown, which is 01. And
your time spent in the game is also shown. I was already at 00:11:31.
Press A again. You are now told how to quick save. Press Start to open the
menu. Try to move, and you are told that striking objects may reveal items.
A barrel falls down, so strike it to see a card fall out. Jump down and grab
it to get the Kingdom Key. You are told that inanimate objects are the only
strikable things. A Shadow appears. You are told that touching a Heartless
starts the battle, but striking it first will give you the upper hand. Strike
the Heartless now.
In this fight, its simple. Just attack the Heartless. They die within a couple
hits. Afterwards, you get EXP which is needed to level up, and you get a
Tranquil Darkness card. Go use it on the door.
---Tranquil Darkness---
ENEMIES: Shadow, Red Nocturne, Blue Rhapsody
RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 2
In here, attack the Heartless seen right here. After the fight, you should have
a map card. Keep fighting the Heartless here until they stop coming.
Go up the ladder and break the crate for some Moogle Points. Strike the door
and synthesize it.
---Room 1---
ENEMIES: Same as previous
RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 4
Attack all the Heartless here. Break the crate at ground level for some MP.
Climb the two ladders and break that one for a Potion.
Strike the door on the left side. This is a special door. You need a value of
1 criterion AND a special keycard, luckily we have it. Synthesize it with the
a Level 3 card and the Key of Beginnings.
---CUTSCENE---
Sora says fighting alone is rough, and then Donald and Goofy appear. After you
converse, you see Leon/Squall again. He cannot remember any experiences with
you, or even any of your names! Sora is mad and says under his breath how can
Leon forget them? Leon says he's sorry but they've got the wrong guy. Then he
says:
"Don't take it personally, Sora."
Donald blurts that he does know his name, then Leon is puzzled. He asks how he
knows Sora's name. Goofy and Donald talk, with backs turned. Goofy asks if
Donald thinks Leon is just joking around. Donald says if he is, its not funny,
because Sora's really hurt. Leon says:
"Who's kidding around Goofy? You and Donald are the ones who-"
Leon is puzzled more, asking what's happening to his memory. A voice says that
maybe Aerith was onto something afterall. Yuffie appears, and everyone talks.
Yuffie runs off, then Leon wants to teach Sora how to fight in battle.
Keep attacking him, every once in a while, your attack won't work, since he has
the same yet higher value card. And also, sometimes it will Card Break, when
you have the higher value card, so you break the enemy's defenses.
Now we see how to stock cards. To stock cards, press L and R at the same time.
Do this now. You will have stocked 3 keyblade cards. After stocking cards, to
use them, press L and R at the same time again. Picking special cards in a
stock will unleash a sleight. After a sleight attack is used, the first card
picked is lost, and won't return until the end of battle.
The battle ends and Leon throws Sora a card he found. You obtain Simba and
the Key of Guidance.
---Room 2---
ENEMIES: Same as previous
RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 4
Now go up the ladder and right. Bash the crate for MP then go back up to strike
the door. Synthesize it with a Level 5, if you have one.
---Room 3---
ENEMIES: Same as previous
RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 4
Kill all the Heartless, as always. Go up to the left and synthesize the door
with a card and the Key of Guidance.
---CUTSCENE---
Here we meet Aerith and the whole party does a lot of talking. Sora then says
that Leon probably won't remember what he said at Hollow Bastion. After Sora
sealed the keyhole, Leon said:
"We may never meet again..."
and Leon finishes Sora's sentence:
"...but we'll never forget each other."
Leon does remember what happened. No one can purely remember what happened, but
Aerith poses the possibility that Sora's heart is doing the remembering for
them. He asks how that will work. Aerith says that they don't know Sora and Co,
but his heart is full of memories of them together, and that those memories
must resonate in Leon and Co's hearts, too. Everyone except Sora is confused.
Sora says that maybe the figure is right, and that the town is an illusion, and
that his memories created it. Aerith turns and asks Sora if there's someone
special to him in the town. Sora is puzzled, but quickly recovers. He says he
understands that his memories are resonating with theirs, telling them what
happened. Anyway, he says yes, there is a friend of his in town, or, he means
Castle Oblivion. Leon and Co have no idea what Castle Oblivion is.
After its over, you obtain the Key to Truth.
---Room 3---
ENEMIES: Same as previous
RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 5
Break the crate now to get a Simba card. Go to the northern part of the room
and strike this door. Synthesize it with a Level 6 if you have one.
---Room 4---
ENEMIES: Same as previous
RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 5
Both crates here have MP in them. After taking out the Heartless, strike the
door. This door requires a Green card and the Key to Truth.
---CUTSCENE---
You see Cid and a big conversation takes place. Cid says he hasn't seen Riku,
only Heartless. He says that the plaza is worst, and that the word is there'll
be a jumbo-sized Heartless there when the bell rings. He says to get out of
here, if you value your hide. He leaves, then Goofy says maybe he's right. Sora
playfully joke-asks if they want to see the Heartless, and Donald shouts no.
Then the bell rings. The screen flashes and we are pit into battle.

//JUMBO-SIZED HEARTLESS - GUARD ARMOR\\
-----------------------------------
-------
ATTACKS
-------
Smack: Attack you with its hands. Run away to avoid.
Athlete's Feet: Yes, not foot. His two feet coming running towards you to knock
you down. He stands still and stomps his feet before this, so
run at that moment to avoid. You may need to jump at times,
too.
STOMP!: He jumps up in the air and lands on you. To avoid, Dodge Roll when he
is about to land and jump up to avoid the shockwave.
Spin About: Float to the ground and spin uncontrollably fast at you. [Form 2]
Tri-Slam: Bounce about the ground three times in a row, sending shockwaves.
[Form 2]
--------
STRATEGY
--------
Once the battle starts, run away. Hopefully you have a premium card with you,
and it is an attack card. A premium card is an upgrade to any random card in
your deck. You should have had a chance to upgrade a card sometime during a
level-up.
If you have a high value premium attack card, stock it up with 2 other attack
cards, and attack one of his feet. Keep attacking and hopefully a Donald card
will drop down. Use it on that same foot. After one foot is gone, concentrate
on the other. If you don't have a premium card, it'll just take a little longer
to take out a foot.
Now, after some attacks, there is a 70 percent chance a Green Mickey 0 card
will drop down. If it does, GET IT. After getting it, use it, and the whole
scene will go into negative colors, then the screen flashes. After which, Guard
Armor will fall apart, and you will have time to attack his parts quickly. You
should be able to destroy a full health part during this time.
Green Mickey 0 cards will keep falling in the fight, so be on the lookout.
Those will make the fight a whole lot easier. Keep focusing on one part of
Guard Armor, and keep attacking. Remember to be wary of the value of the card
Guard Armor is about to use, and if your in a tight spot, try to Card Break as
often as you can. Also, take note that the Green Mickey cards usually will fall
right after Card Breaks.
After the hands and feet are gone, Guard Armor is just a floating piece of
armor, like he was before, but weaker. Now keep attacking the armor. Beware
of his Tri-Slam attack, as it hurts a lot, and can kill you while you are
refilling your cards, especially if you have to fill up 3 crown card icons.
The Green Mickey 0 cards help A LOT in this form of the battle. Guard Armor
will go down in no time if you use the Green Mickey 0 cards. Keep attacking
and remember to Card Break and avoid his attacks. Guard Armor will be down in
no time.
