The Groove Adventure RAVE videogame is copyright
2002 Konami, and the anime/manga are copyrighted by
their repective holders. I make no claim to the own-
ership of these characters, names, situations, etc.
This FAQ is copyright 2002 LegatoB (that'd be me.)
It may not be redistributed without my permission.
I plan to send this to CheatCC and GameFAQS and
that's about it. So if you see this FAQ elsewhere,
please email me the URL of the offending site.
Almost all terminology used in this FAQ is made up
by me. So it's not official. So in the very, very
unlikely event this is released in the US, don't
blame me if it's wrong. ;)

|2.0 Gameplay Info |
--------------------
|2.1 The Menu |
--------------------
These aren't translations, mind you, just what I've
observed while playing the game.
Option 1: Single Player Mode. This is the mode where
you unlock characters. There's also some kind of
story, but it seems to be mostly random anyway.
Option 2: Versus (Com) Mode. On this screen, you can
set up a battle between you and computer opponents.
On the first screen, you'll see two options:
2-A: Free For All. Everyone can beat up everyone
else.
2-B: Team Battle. Each player can be either on the
A or B team.
On the next screen, you'll see a table that looks
like this:
Control Team Character Handicap*
(1P/COM) (A/B) (Name here) (1-6)
[BACK] [OK]
(*It seems to effect how much your button mashes
count for during finishing moves. The higher the
number, the harder it will be for your opponent to
outmash you during a finishing move.)
Option 3: A link up of some kind. Probably for
Versus Mode. But maybe it works with the GBA to
Gamecube link up, since I heard of a RAVE Gamecube
game. Push B to back out of it.
Option 4: Training Mode. The table looks exactly
like the one for Versus mode. The main differences
are that you can't use finishers or lock-up techs,
and your opponent won't fight back.
Option 5: Option Mode. From Top to Bottom:
Difficulty: This one is obvious. Choices are
"EASY," "NORMAL," and "HARD."
???: No idea. Might be the same as the option I
called "Handicap" above.
View Best Record: See your best times through
Single Player Mode by character.
Data Erase: Well, that's what I _think_ it is. I'm
in no hurry to find out.
OK: Obvious, I hope.
---------------------
|2.2 How To Play |
---------------------
|2.2.1 Basic control|
---------------------
Left/Right - Move your character.
Down - Block.
A - Jump. Press again to double-jump.
B (+Pad neutral) - Weak attack. Keep pressing to use
a rapid attack.
B (+Pad Left/Right) - Longer range attack. Usually
slower and stronger than the weak attack.
B (+Pad Up) - Upward attack. Again, slower and
stronger than the weak attack.
B (+Pad Down) - Sweeping attack.
A + B - Lock-up attack. If you hit your opponent
with this, you'll enter a special screen with
directional arrows on it. Enter these in order
quickly, and you'll take away a bit of your
opponent's life. If you mess up, you can't input
any more for a second or two. Whoever loses three
times is flung away. The winner gets one charge in
the gauge.
R - Special 1. This varies from character to
character, but is usually a ranged attack.
R (+Pad Up) - Special 2. This varies from character
to character, but is usually an attack that aims
high.
R (+Pad Down) - Special 3. Usually a low attack.
[One special can be used in the air by pressing R.
It varies from character to character.]
L - Power Up Move 1. You can use this after winning
a Lock-up. It has varying effects.
L (+Pad Down) - Power Up Move 2. You can use this
after winning a Lock-up. It has varying effects.
[Note that the effects of Power Up moves almost
always are canceled by using a Lock-up.]
Start - When you/your team has won at least 3/4 of
the Life Bar, it will flash. Pressing Start now
will begin a Finishing Move (unless you are hit).
When this begins, mash the A (and B, I think)
buttons as fast as humanly possible. Whoever mashes
it the most in about 10 seconds wins. If the person
/team who started the attack wins, a Finishing Move
will be executed, and the match will end. If the
targets win, their life meter will grow quite a bit
(depending on how beaten up they were before.)
--------------------------------
|2.2.2 The Interface 'n' stuff!|
--------------------------------
The fun, fun meters look like this:
/----------------------------\
| | |
\----------------------------/
P| |Name Name| |P
1|@|* * * * * *|@|2
Okay, basically, the big bar up top is the Life Bar.
Whenever you hit your opponent (or visa versa), your
side will grow and your opponent's will shrink
(or the other way around). If one side drains it to
below 3/4, they can use a Finishing Move. If it gets
drained even further, it is possible to "knock out"
your opponent. However, they will recover after a
bit.
If you get knocked down by a move, you will drop
your "item." Each character has his/her own item.
You have to be holding it to use Specials, Power Up
Moves or Finishing Moves. You cannot get another
person's item, however, you can knock it around and
keep them from getting it. If the small circle
(represented by the @ above) is filled with color,
you are holding your item, and thus, can use
Specials/Power Ups/Finishers.
The three *s represent the three charge squares.
By winning a Lock-up, you get one of these. Using a
Power Up move uses up one charge.
Got it? Good. And now, the characters!
--------------------
|3.0 The Characters|
--------------------
On the story mode select screen, the characters are
organized as follows:
Haru Musica Elie Griff & Plue
Shuda Sieg Hart Let Reina
Gale King M. Prison Lucia
In versus mode, pressing right will advance you
along the rows, going from top left to bottom right.
--------------------
|3.1 Move List |
--------------------
Haru:
The hero, I guess. He looks like generic boys'
manga hero #346.
R - He pulls out a key looking thing. It creates a
gust of wind, knocking away the enemy.
R (+Pad Down) - His sword is surrounded by fire, and
he swings in down, creating an explosion.
R (+Pad Up) - He jumps up and forward, slashing with
two previously unseen swords.
L - His sword turns into a cooler looking red sword
with flame power. (Power Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - His sword turns into a cooler
looking blue sword and moves much faster.
(Speed Up!)
-------------
Musica:
A nifty looking guy with a spear.
R - His sword turns into a whip and whips forward
and down. Knocks over opponents.
R (+Pad Down) - He stabs his spear forward and down.
Can knock opponents off of platforms.
R (+Pad Up) - A jumping version of his upward
attack, in which he spins his spear rapidly.
L - His spear turns red. (Power Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - He gives the opponent a thumbs down.
(Defense Up!)
-------------
Elie:
A girl who uses tonfa. (Think the Hero from
Suikoden II.)
R - She shoots a fireball. She hops back during
this.
R (+Pad Down) - A sliding kick. Knocks over the
opponent.
R (+Pad Up) - Fires her machine guns (!) forward and
then up.
L - She now fires her machine guns during all her
attacks, increasing their range and power.
(Power Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - She looks angry, and two glowing
orbs orbit her. While the orbs are present, it's
easier to combo attacks into Specials. (EX Action!)
-------------
Griff & Plue
Umm... right! This character is really weird. The
mascots, I guess.
R - The blue one throws the white one forward.
R (+Pad Down) - The blue one falls over. Knocks
things over.
R (+Pad Up) - The blue one grows big and covers the
white one. Can knock opponents into the air.
L - The white one does something and the blue one
cries with joy. (Defense Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - The blue one ties a bandana around
his head and a flag appears. (Speed Up!)
-------------
Shuda
A guy with a sword, and apparently some kind of
bomb power.
R - He yells something, and a targeting cursor
appears about a half-screen from him. It then
explodes.
R (+Pad Down) - A close-range version of the above.
R (+Pad Up) - Close range and a bit above. This is
the fast version.
L - His fist catches on fire. (Power Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - He poses. When he touches an
opponent, an explosion will occur. Plus easier
comboing. (EX Action!)
-------------
Sieg Hart
A prettyboy character who is master of the
elements. I guess.
R - He swings his arms and a blast of wind is fired.
R (+Pad Down) - He crouches and lighting strikes on
both sides of him.
R (+Pad Up) - He pauses, then hops into the air
accompanied by clouds of dust. Or something.
L - He can fly! Use the +Pad to fly around. (EX
Action!)
L (+Pad Down) - A quick, non damaging lightning
strike that always hits. But it DOES knock down
the opponent. (No engrish for this one! :P)
-------------
Let
A creature of some kind. Lizard, maybe? It's hard
to make out.
R - He breathes fire.
R (+Pad Down) - He jumps high into the air, then
comes back down quickly. (M. Bison's Head Stomp,
anyone?)
R (+Pad Up) - Think a hurricane kick, but jumping up
into the air instead of spinning forward.
L - He crosses his arms, then raises them.
(Power Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - His back is to the opponent, then he
spins around. He's almost criminally powerful with
this. (Speed Up!)
-------------
Reina
Now here's an odd one. A sexy girl in a red dress
who attacks using grey energy.
R - She crouches, then stands quickly, sending a
gray image of a man with a sword at the enemy.
R (+Pad Down) - She throws a spinning blast, which
then splits into four small columns of energy,
which fly down.
R (+Pad Up) - She poses, sending a grey bat upward.
L - The projectile from her R move appears.
(Defense Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - Exactly the same as Sieg Hart's
L (+Pad Down).
-------------
Gale
An old man who looks like he stole Char's uniform.
(Char is a character from Mobile Suit Gundam. If
you've never seen it, think Zechs from Gundam Wing.
Same diff.)
R - A dashing punch. Sends the opponent flying.
R (+Pad Down) - He swings his sword down, creating a
short-range shockwave.
R (+Pad Up) - He hops up, slashing with his sword.
L - He raises his sword in the air and then holds it
in front of him. (Power Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - He looks at a white piece of paper
(a photo, most likely). (Speed Up!)
-------------
King
Hey, look! It's Generic Evil Villian #456!
R - Fires a SLOW moving projectile. Pathetically
easy to dodge, and you can't use any more specials
until it goes off screen.
R (+Pad Down) - A quick dashing attack. Probably his
best attack.
R (+Pad Up) - Exactly the same as Haru's
R (+Pad Up).
L - Haru's L. (Power Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - Haru's L (+Pad Down). Y'know, I bet
they're related. (Speed Up!)
-------------
M. Prison
He looks like King, sorta. But he has completely
different moves.
R - Gale's R.
R (+Pad Down) - He slams his hand onto the ground,
creating shockwaves on both sides. Can knock down.
R (+Pad Up) - He breathes a bit of fire upward. Can
knock down.
L - He howls. (Defense Up!)
L (+Pad Down) - He looks around for a moment.
(Speed Up!)
-------------
Lucia
Looks like a powered up, evil Haru. A big improvem-
ent over King.
R - Gale and M. Prison's R, but swinging his sword
instead.
R (+Pad Down) - He stabs his sword into the ground,
creating shockwaves on both sides. Can knock down.
R (+Pad Up) - Like Haru and King's R (+Pad Up), but
the swords are stuck out to the side.
L - King and Haru's L.
L (+Pad Down) - King and Haru's L (+Pad Down).

Thanks to various folks who posted on the Gamefaqs
board for this game - without it, I'd never have
finished off a single enemy. :)
Thanks to YOU, for suffering through this, my first
FAQ.
If you have any comments or suggestions, please send
them to jeffreed@sandwich.net.
If you happen to know what that part of the Versus
screen I'm not sure about is for, let me
know ASAP! I'd like to make version 2 of the FAQ as
complete as possible.
