Fire Emblem - Strategy Guide (Page 02)
Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Fire Emblem - Strategy Guide (Page 02).
Unfortunately, Nintendo decided to include a huge tutorial in the first stateside Fire Emblem, the logic probably being that we Americans are too dumb to figure this stuff out. Feh. They should have done what they did in Advance Wars... Anyway, this tutorial spans 10 chapters (that's right), and you're not even in chapter 1. Thankfully, whenever they try to teach you about how to play the game, you can skip it by pressing Start or B. This game is very similar to Advance Wars (made by the same developer, Intelligent Systems), but it is a lot harder. Still, these tutorials are ridiculous. Go ahead and skip them if you've played any other Fire Emblem games, especially Fuuin no Ken, because this is extremely similar. Anyway, this chapter is impossible to lose, because the tutorial is holding your hand the whole way through. First, move Lyn towards the Brigand. The Brigand will move closer. Then attack him. On his turn, he will attack back, and will die. Lyn will be hurt, and you will be asked to use one of her Vulneraries (I used to always call them "Salves", so if I accidentally say "Salve" then I mean "Vulnerary"). Move Lyn towards Batta and use one. Then attack Batta. He will automatically injure Lyn, and if he hits her again, she will die. But don't worry. On his turn, he misses, and Lyn does a critical hit and kills him. Lyn will grow a level. Now, move Lyn to the spot where Batta was standing and select "Seize" to win the battle. The next day, Lyn asks you to take her with you as you travel. She tells you her parents were killed six months ago by bandits. She was the only survivor from the Lorca tribe. She wants to get stronger so that she can avenge her family and tribe. You then automatically agree to take her with you. And so the next battle starts. =============================================================================== Chapter 1: Footsteps of Fate =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. Recommended Deployment: Lyn* Difficulty: * Boss(es): Zugu Enemies: 5 Brigand x5 Reinforcements? Once you arrive, you run into two knights from the city of Caelin in Lycia. Their names are Sain and Kent; Sain is the crazy womanizer, and Kent is the serious one (so the green/red Social Knight rivalry continues :). They are apparently on a mission to find someone. Lyn leaves in disgust after Sain messes around with her. As soon as she leaves, she finds herself being pursued by bandits who have been sent to kill her. But there are too many for her alone to handle. Fortunately for you both, Sain and Kent ride to the rescue. The battle starts. First, Sain wants to attack the bandit to the right of him. He misses with his lance, while the bandit hits him. This brings into light the "weapons triangle"; swords beat axes beat spears beat swords. Kent gives him an Iron Sword. Now Kent asks to be allowed to attack the bandit. Have Lyn finish him off. Sain will ask to be given another chance. Have him attack the bandit to the south; he will miss yet again. Kent tells him it is because the brigand is in the woods, which increases a unit's evasion and defense. Now Kent asks to attack; move him in the woods next to the Brigand and do so. Move Lyn to the forest in the northeast. Lyn asks Sain why he didn't heal himself, and offers a Vulnerary to him. Move him up to her and select "Trade". I would take the Vulnerary with only two uses left, since Sain usually lasts longer than Lyn, and will probably need to use them less often. Now have him use it. Cavaliers (if I ever call them "Social Knights", I mean "Cavaliers") and other mounted units have the ability to move again after using an item, trading, etc. The exceptions to this rule are attacking and healing (with a staff). The tutorial finally shuts up for the rest of the chapter. If you need to take a break select "Suspend". You will be able to continue from where you left off. But you can just shut off your GBA without having to worry about losing data. Have Kent finish the Brigand to the south, while Lyn moves north to the forest southeast of the other bandit. The enemy will most likely attack Sain. Have Sain finish him off. Now there are only two enemies left. When you get too close to the Brigand across the bridge he will come and attack you. Again I would have Sain finish him off, since he has the lowest EXP. Once he dies, the "victory" song plays (this song is the one which plays when only one enemy remains on the map). Zulu, the boss, can kill Lyn in two hits, but it takes three to kill Sain and Kent. So I would use them. When every enemy dies the battle is over. Lyn talks to Sain and Kent (anime scene) about why they helped her. They are messengers of Lady Madelyn who came to Sacae 19 years ago with a nomad. Madelyn is Marquess Caelin's only daughter. Madelyn sent Caelin a letter about herself and her family living on the plains of Sacae. She had a daughter named Lyndis, which is the same name as Marquess Caelin's late wife. Marquess Caelin sent Sain and Kent to find his granddaughter, and it just so happens to be Lyn. The bandit was apparently a guy working for a man named Lundgren, who is Marquess Caelin's brother and Lyn's granduncle. This means that since Madelyn died, Lundgren would take the throne. But after hearing news that his brother's granddaughter was still alive, he sent assassins after he because she might take the throne after her grandfather dies. Lyn agrees to journey with Sain and Kent to Caelin. Of course, you go with them as well. =============================================================================== Chapter 2: Sword of Spirits =============================================================================== Objective: Seize the throne. Recommended Deployment: Lyn*, Sain*, Kent* Difficulty: * Boss(es): Glass Enemies: 6 Brigand x5 Mercenary x1 Reinforcements? No Boss Info: Name: Glass Class: Mercenary Items: Iron Sword, Vulnerary (Dropped) Level: 3 HP: 20 Attack: 10 Hit Rate: 98 Critical: 2 Evasion: 30 Strength: 5 Skill: 4 Speed: 5 Luck: 0 Defense: 3 Resistance: 0 Conversations: None Affiliation: Sacae No New Characters No Shops No Villages/Chests No Conversations Lyn decides to stop at an altar in Sacae on the way to Caelin. But now some bandits have overrun the shrine in order to steal the legendary sword, the Mani Katti. A swordsman named Glass is leading the attack. However, he cannot pull the sword from its scabbard, and decides to destroy the altar. A woman begs Lyn to help save the altar from the bandits. First have your troops visit the houses to the south. They will give information that can help you out. After this move them back north. Make sure everyone lands either in a forest or fort to raise evasion. The tutorial will stop for the remainder of the chapter and will let you do whatever you want. Kill off the three Brigands that are advancing towards you. Just use swords and you'll do fine. Use Vulneraries if you must. You can either go through the front gate or knock down the wall in order to get to the throne; however, Lyn is the only one that can traverse the mountains in order to go through the front gate. Therefore I recommend breaking down the wall, even though it is sort of sacrilegious :). Simply attack it like you would a normal enemy. The pillars next to the one Brigand inside increase evasion and defense like forests and forts do. Try to distribute EXP evenly, but give a bit more to Sain and Kent than to Lyn (you'll see why farther in the game). I would take out the Brigand guarding the front gate as well for some more EXP. Glass, the boss, is extremely easy. Use Sain or Kent's Iron Lance on him. He should go down in 1 or 2 turns. He will drop a Vulnerary. Once he dies, have Lyn seize the throne. Lyn will find that the priest of the altar is alright. He allows her to lay her hands on the Mani Katti. When Lyn does, it glows a bright light. The priest says it has chosen her to be its owner. Lyn draws out the sword easily. Sain and Kent are amazed to see this. Only Lyn can use this special sword. Meanwhile, in Caelin, a soldier informs Lundgren that Lyn is still alive. He says the bandits from Bern will finish her off before she gets to Caelin. He is more concerned with his brother, whom he is slowly poisoning to death in order to get the throne. =============================================================================== Chapter 3: Band of Mercenaries =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. Recommended Deployment: Lyn*, Sain*, Kent* Difficulty: * Boss(es): Migal Enemies: 9 Archer x2 Brigand x4 Mercenary x3 Reinforcements? No Boss Info: Name: Migal Class: Brigand Items: Steel Axe Level: 6 HP: 25 Attack: 18 Hit Rate: 72 Critical: 1 Evasion: 6 Strength: 7 Skill: 3 Speed: 5 Luck: 2 Defense: 5 Resistance: 0 Conversations: Lyn, Florina Affiliation: Bern Bandits (Ganelon tribe) New Characters: Florina Pegasus Knight Requirements for her to join: None Description: A pegasus knight earning her title. Very social. Starting Item(s): Iron Bow Starting Weapon Levels: Bow (D) Affinity: Wind Armory: Iron Sword 460G Iron Lance 360G Villages/Chests: Southwest: Wil joins Northwest: 2000 Gold No Conversations Lyn continues her journey to Caelin with Sain and Kent. Now she passes through a mountain range that separates Sacae and Bern, which is the home to many bandits, including the cruel Taliver tribe. You enter a village to find it in ruins, at the hands of the Taliver bandits. These bandits are the ones who destroyed Lyn's village. You, Kent, and Sain promise to help her out when the time comes for vengeance. You find some fighting going on close to you. Some bandits have captured a girl and her pegasus, which trampled over them, and are planning on selling them. Lyn recognizes the pegasus rider as her friend Florina and comes to her aid. She tries to reason with the bandits, but there's no use. They attack. First off, have Lyn visit the southwestern village. You'll get a new unit, Wil. He is an Archer, and has to attack from two spaces away. Have him attack the Mercenary to the north. Next is Florina. She is a Pegasus Knight, a unit that can traverse almost any obstacle. Select her, and if you want a laugh, try to move her to a space that the tutorial doesn't allow her to. Have her finish of the Mercenary. Then have Kent/Sain attack the Archer to the east. Make sure to keep Florina away from Archers. Following the Fire Emblem tradition, bows are still devastating to flying units. So be careful. Have Florina save the northwestern village and she will get 2000 gold. There is a weapon shop, called an Armory, in the southeast corner of this map. You can buy stuff here if you want. Check the list above to see what items are available for purchase. Have Sain/Kent enter the forest to the east and kill the Brigand; they should be able to do so in two strikes. Notice that you can't counterattack arrows unless your units also have ranged weapons. But also, Archers can't counterattack unless you're in their range. So stay close to enemy Archers, and have your Archers stay away from enemies. Use swords against Brigands and lances against Mercenaries. Keep Florina away from both Brigands and Archers and you should be alright. Once you've bought everything you need, it's time to deal with the boss. Migal has special conversations with both Florina and Lyn, but I'd keep both away from him. His Steel Axe is very powerful. My strategy is to fire arrows at him with Wil until he's weakened enough for Lyn to kill him in one hit with her Mani Katti Florina is an apprentice Pegasus Knight training in Ilia. However, to complete her training, she must travel with a band of mercenaries. Sain gets an idea for her to travel with them on the way to Caelin. Florina accepts the offer, and Wil willingly joins too (yeah, my puns are as terrible as ever). Enjoy the anime scene. =============================================================================== Chapter 4: In Occupation's Shadow =============================================================================== Objective: Protect Natalie for seven turns. Recommended Deployment: Lyn*, Sain*, Kent*, Florina*, Wil* Difficulty: * Boss(es): Carjiga Enemies: 14 Archer x2 Brigand x9 Fighter x1 Mercenary x2 Reinforcements? Yes Boss Info: Name: Carjiga Class: Brigand Items: Steel Axe Level: 8 HP: 27 Attack: 17 Hit Rate: 76 Critical: 2 Evasion: 10 Strength: 6 Skill: 5 Speed: 4 Luck: 2 Defense: 7 Resistance: 0 Conversations: None Affiliation: Bern Bandits (Ganelon tribe) New Characters: Dorcas Fighter Requirements for him to join: Have Lyn talk to him. Description: A man from a small village in Bern. Fights for his wife. Starting Item(s): Hand Axe, Vulnerary Starting Weapon Levels: Axe (C) Affinity: Fire No Shops No Villages Conversations: Lyn -> Dorcas Dorcas joins you Dorcas -> Natalie No effect After rescuing Florina, Lyn and company continue on toward Caelin. They find an abandoned fortress to stay in for the night. Little do they know, other Ganelon bandits are after them. In the fortress, a wounded girl named Natalie is searching for her husband, Dorcas, who has left to gain money to heal her. Suddenly, Ganelon bandits lay siege to the fort on all sides. Natalie must be protected. The goal is to prevent Natalie from getting killed for seven turns. This should be no trouble at all. She is deep inside the fortress and the enemies are far away. Enemies will be attacking the wall at the west but it will take a while for them to break it. Most of the enemies will be coming from the south, while a few come from the east. Lyn decides to protect the east wall while everyone else guards the main entrance. Have Lyn and Florina move east while Sain and Kent guard the two spots which make up the main entrance. Wil should go to the west wall and attack the Mercenary and Brigand there. One of the enemies is Dorcas, Natalie's wife. He will most likely attack Lyn but miss. Have Lyn talk to him and he will join. Then have Dorcas attack the Brigand above him from two spaces away with his long-range Hand Axe; he will automatically kill him and take his Iron Axe. Move Dorcas and Lyn back inside the castle to support Sain and Kent. Florina should go to the northeast corner of the map in order to deal with the Mercenaries. Meanwhile, hopefully most of the southern enemies will be killed when they try to attack your Cavaliers. Kent will hopefully be able to attack them twice with his sword right now. Make sure you try to split the EXP evenly between the two. If Wil gets done killing the northwestern enemies he should join Kent and Sain. Try to have Dorcas talk to his wife, Natalie. They will have a little talk, but nothing will happen. Just keep holding back enemies. If someone is badly wounded have them step away and use a Vulnerary while someone else fills in there spot. Carjiga will call for reinforcements on around turn 2-3, I forget. But they're nothing to worry about. If you feel like it you can go kill Carjiga for some extra EXP; be warned, he is very powerful (but he also misses a lot). Once seven turns have passed the enemy will retreat. Dorcas decides to stay with you in order to get money and heal his wife. =============================================================================== Chapter 5: Beyond the Borders =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. Lyn is close to the Lycian border and is almost safe from the bandits. But they try one last time to put an end to Lyn and save their reputations. Lyn hears a scream off in the distance... First, have Lyn talk to Serra, the Cleric. She will join you along with Erk, a mage she is traveling with. Have her heal Erk and then have Erk finish off the Archer. Florina should go as far east as she can to take out the Mercenary. Have everyone else go up and around, killing the easy enemies along the way. One Brigand drops an Iron Sword. You can buy some stuff at the Armory if you want. I'd buy Javelins for Sain, Kent, and Florina. Use long range attacks against Brigands and Mercenaries, and short range attacks against Archers. The same goes for the boss, Bug; just use Erk's magic, Wil's Iron Bow and Dorcas' Hand Axe. He won't be able to lay a finger on you. After the battle, Lyn says goodbye to Serra and Erk. But Sain comes and meets Serra, who wants to serve Lyn. Sain goes back to convince her. Meanwhile, back in Caelin, Lundgren finds out that Lyn has crossed the Lycia border and is heading to Araphen. He orders his soldiers to finish her off. =============================================================================== Chapter 6: Blood of Pride =============================================================================== Objective: Trigger 3 switches. But she still has a way to go before she reaches Caelin. Lundgren, her granduncle, sends out his assassins to finish her before she gets to her grandfather's castle. Lyn enters Araphen, the second largest town in Lycia, only to find it under attack by men who want her dead. As Lyn is about to get attacked, a mysterious horseman named Rath comes to aid her. Rath tells her that if they can push all three switches they can get inside to save Marquess Araphen. But some of the doors are locked. Thankfully, Lyn finds a Thief named Matthew hiding out in a house to the north. Have him open the first door and have Rath "Wait" on the switch to activate it. Meanwhile, have everyone else take care of the two Mercenaries. On the next turn, have Matthew open the chest for an Angelic Robe. This permanently increases a character's HP by 7 when used, but disappears after one use. I can't agree more when Matthew says "don't fret or you'll never use it", as this is what I did in FE3 and kept every single stat-increasing item I got until the end of the game. My top choice for it is Serra by far, but Lyn, Florina, and Erk are all good choices as well. Don't use it on anyone else, as most of them get really good HP gains (Dorcas and Rath should max theirs out by the end of the game)! Visit the village for a Door Key and then use it to open the southeastern door (kill the Soldier first). Inside is another Soldier and the second switch; take him out and stand on it. Kill the Soldier blocking the upper right door and open that one with Matthew first. Inside is a chest that contains an Armorslayer. This weapon is good against heavily armored enemies like Knights and Generals. Finally, have Matthew open the last door, the one above the chest with the Angelic Robe. Inside this is a Soldier, the boss, and the final switch. You'll have to kill the boss to get to it. First, finish the Archer with melee attacks. Conveniently, the boss is a Knight, who is weak to the Armorslayer. However, Lyn's Mani Katti and Erk's magic work just as well. So kill him in any way you wish. Then step on the switch. After the battle, Lyn meets with Marquess Araphen. He is going to withdraw his support for her simply because she is Sacaen. Plus he doesn't want to get in trouble if Lundgren becomes the next Marquess of Caelin. Sain can hardly hold himself back, but Lyn decides to leave. Rath overhears him and takes his leave as well. He decides to join Lyn, and give her 5000 Gold. =============================================================================== Chapter 7: Siblings Abroad =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat Black Fang shaman Heintz.
