THIS FAQ IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THE STAR OCEAN: THE SECOND STORY SOCIAL
BOARD ON GAMEFAQS.
Hey, Chris here AGAIN, with another Fire Emblem walkthrough. This time it's the
seventh installation in the series, and the first one to hit American shores!
Of course, I just HAD to make a walkthrough for it. Who knows, maybe I'll write
walkthroughs for all the other Emblems...
Note that I did NOT use the ROM once for this game. I haven't even downloaded
it. I would just like to say that, because at times I was tempted to and I know
it would have been a lot easier to do so. But in the end, I prevailed. So...
Yeah. Anyway.
So I finally got finished with this... And my e-mail is back up! Hurray! But
you have to put the word "Tales" in the subject line in order for it not to be
filtered. Oh yeah, the address is cstrittyrun@yahoo.com . Make sure you read
the FAQ section before contacting me! Anything helpful, such as corrections,
alternate strategies, or other things are more than welcome. Of course, I will
give you full credit.
If you like this game, then try these other ones (name of the game/series
followed by my personal score out of 10):
Fire Emblem series - 8 to 10/10
Final Fantasy Tactics - 10/10
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness - 9/10
Advance Wars - 8/10
Advance Wars 2 - 8/10
Langrisser series - 6 to 8/10 (I've only played 1, 2, & DL)
Shining Force II - 7/10
TearRing Saga - ?/10 (Almost every FE site I've been to mentions
this PS1 S/RPG. But I have yet to play it.)
Thanks for reading this, and enjoy the game!
~Chris

Version 0.25
January 8, 2003
79 KB
I started the walkthrough and turned in the first submission of it. Walkthrough
is up to Chapter 10. Characters, weapons, items, etc. are finished up to that
point. Estimated final KB: 350.
Version 0.26
January 10, 2004
85 KB
All I really did here is fixed up a couple of big mistakes (like, for example,
saying that Lords cannot promote, and giving Wallace a 6 out of 10). Oh yeah, I
also continued the walkthrough to Chapter 11, as a little bonus. Estimated
final KB: 350.
Version 0.50
January 23, 2004
229 KB
Updated everything up to Chapter 19. This includes Characters, Walkthrough,
Items, etc. Also started a list of every class, my own ranking of each support
(in terms of usefulness, not story!), and a list of possible support matches
for each character. I spent a lot of time explaining support as well. Finally,
I upgraded the ASCII (which used to suck big time) and increased the estimated
final KB, rounding it down a bit. Estimated final KB: 375
Version 1.00
February 22, 2004
380 KB
I haven't been progressing as fast, but today I finished Eliwood's Tale, thus
finishing the main walkthrough of the game (the "hidden" scenario is not yet
started). Updated everything else to that point. Added some sections to
"Misc.". I'm debating on whether or not this FAQ/Walkthrough will cover the
unlockable scenario. Estimated final KB: ???
Version 1.01
March 3, 2004
382 KB
Basically just a few big errors were fixed, a few more Support ratings and
random stuff. Nothing big. Estimated final KB: ???
What to expect in Version 1.?? (OMG ITS A MYSTERY):
~"Secret" walkthrough started...? Possibly? I don't know yet.
~General updates.
~More expected finishing character stats.
~Possibly another lame attempt at ASCII on the bottom of the file (like Asaero
and Ulf in my other FAQs).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Pre-Battle
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 7 is when you are first able to access the "Combat Preparation" screen
before battles. Before that point, you will automatically have your units and
formation selected for you. But from now on, you can prepare for the upcoming
battle before it starts. Press Start to begin the battle after choosing these
preparations:
Pick Units
You will almost always have a limit on the number of characters to take into
battle, for some odd reason (that's one reason why I loved Seisen no Keifu).
Press A to select/deselect a unit. Chosen units are in blue, unselected ones
are in gray. You can also access a list of the entire units by pressing Select.
Some characters must be deployed.
Trade
You can trade items with other units, sell them, or use them here. Once you get
Merlinus in Chapter 13x/16, you can give items to him for him to carry. You can
also give all of a unit's items to him or see a list of all your items.
Merlinus can carry a total of 100 items.
Fortune
Once you get Marcus he can tell you your performance ratings and tactician
information here. A fortune teller that will join you later will allow you to
use "Augury" which gives you hints on the upcoming battle, for a small price.
You will also eventually be able to use "Reading", which allows you to see
Support levels between units.
Check Map
You can check the battlefield map here. Look at enemies and the surroundings to
plan a strategy. You will also be able to alter the formation of your units
(characters who must be deployed can't change their formation). You can also
access Options here or Save.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B. Moving Around the Battlefield
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Moving Around
To move a character, highlight one of them on the map and press A. Now,
press any button on the control pad, and a bunch of highlighted squares
will show up. Move the cursor to the square you want the character to
move to and press A. The character will move! After they're done moving,
another screen will pop up. Depending on where they are, there may be
more than one option.
2. Attacking
If a character is next* to an enemy, choose this option to attack
them. If the character's next* to more than one, you can switch the
target with the control pad. Press A to attack. The character will
automatically attack the enemy, and the enemy will also counterattack*.
*Archers must be two spaces away from an enemy to attack. Enemies can't
counterattack them unless they also have a ranged weapon. Also, some
spells can be cast from more than one panel away. Enemies can't
counterattack them either, unless they have a bow or something. There are also
some other weapons that can attack from the same distance or longer
3. Healing
If a character is a healer, then they can cast healing spells instead of
attacking. If it doesn't appear, then you are not close enough to a character.
Choose the spell you wish to cast and press A.
5. Misc. Commands
Some characters have special options available to them. For example, Nils can
Play a song for a character and let them regain their turn while Matthew can
Steal items from enemies.
6. Ending the Character's Turn
Choose "Wait" to end a character's turn. After attacking or healing, they will
automatically end their turn. Units riding on horse, pegasus, or wyvern will be
able to move after doing other commands (such as visiting a village, using and
item), but non-mounted characters cannot.
7. Weapons
Select a weapon to equip it.
8. Options
Change various options here.
Misc.
Rescue: Carry a person out of harm's way.
Trade: Trade items with someone.
Support: Increase Support between two characters.
Seize: Seize the throne to end a battle.
Buildings
Fortress: Recover a few HP at the beginning of your turn.
House: Visit for some information.
Shops: Buy stuff here.
Village: Visit to receive some stuff.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C. Battling
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is how various things are calculated in FE7:
Attack = Weapon Power + Strength/Magic
Defense = Defense
Attack - Defense = HP Damage to defender
Hit % = Weapon Hit % + 2x Skill + Luck/2
Critical % = Weapon Critical % + Skill/2
Evade %:
If Constitution > Weapon Weight: 2x Speed + Luck
If Constitution < Weapon Weight:
2x Speed + Luck - 2x(Weapon Weight - Constitution)
Critical Evade %: Luck
(Critical hits do 3x the regular damage)
These values can be affected by these factors:
Terrain effects (standing on various terrains)
Support effects (two characters must have Support and be less than three panels
away from each other)
Tactician's affinity (if a character's affinity matches the tactician's
affinity then the character gets a +5% boost to all stats)
Types of weapons the attacker and defender are wielding
Wow this is boring.
The "Weapon Triangles":
Swords > Axes
Axes > Lances
Lances > Swords
Light > Dark
Dark > Anima
Anima > Light
All other types of weapons are neutral.
The "Reaver" weapons reverse the triangle. So the Lancereaver sword is good
against Lances but bad against Axes.
Some weapons are effective against different enemies:
Name Effect against
All Bows Pegasus/Falcon Knights, Wyvern Riders/Lords
Armorslayer Knights/Generals
Halberd Anyone on a horse.
Hammer Knights/Generals
Heavy Spear Knights/Generals
Horseslayer Anyone on a horse.
Longsword Anyone on a horse.
Mani Katti (See below)
Rapier (See below)
Swordslayer Myrmidons/Swordmasters, Mercenaries/Heroes
Wolf Beil (See below)
Wyrmslayer Wyvern Riders/Lords, Fire Dragons
The Mani Katti, Rapier, and Wolf Beil are all effective agianst the following:
Cavaliers, Paladins, Nomads, Nmd Troopers, Knights, Generals, Troubadours, and
Valkyries.
Also, note that:
When Eliwood promotes, he gets the weaknesses of a Cavalier/Paladin.
When Lyn promotes, she gets the weaknesses of a Myrmidon/Swordmaster.
When Hector promotes, he gets the weaknesses of a Knight/General.
Also, the legendary weapons (Durandal, Sol Katti, Armads, Forblaze and Aureola)
are all effective against Fire Dragons.

You will wake up in a bed. Notice the little "anime" they stuck in; this is a
Fire Emblem first. A girl, named Lyn from the Lorca tribe, had found you
unconscious on the plains and took you in. For those who have played previous
Fire Emblems, notice how her face changes directions and expressions. Pretty
cool, eh? Anyway, right now you are on the plains of Sacae. Lyn steps outside
and sees a couple of bandits from Bern. She'll take you with her. You go
outside and the battle commences.
