Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 - Strategy Guide (Page 08)

Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 - Strategy Guide (Page 08).

- "James" (a different guy) writes: How do I play a Tournament with two
players? I have only been able to play with one player?
     - My response: Sorry... one player only this year. Sucks huh?

- "Maximillian" writes: Does the Sponsorship money counts toward the PGA Career
Money? I am a little bit worried because I got only the last 5 PGA Tournaments
left and I only got 15 Million (with placing 1st in every PGA Event) and need
32 million to pass/beat Tiger Woods (Tracking Tiger Woods Trophy Ball).
My sponsorship is also not so good because I make only 96.000 per round.
My highest Sponsor is Tag Heuer, then Callaway, then Ping, (Nike was the 3rd
Sponsor I received, which sucks!) Anyway, I am almost thru with the Game, but
really want to get all the Trophy Balls possible. So let me know about that
please.
     - My response: You can continue playing season after season for up to 10
seasons to get the Tracking Tiger ball. Note that Tiger is actually
earning money while you play, so the value goes up as you play. You'll
     catch him though.

- "Dave" writes: After creating a user profile, or "game face", can I change
the name of that character? When starting out I meant to make the name bigD,
but I slipped and it came out bjgD. Not a big deal except I noticed it after
106% completion!
     - My response: Sorry! No way to change the name once it's set.

- "Suge420" writes: I am currently playing TW 2004 for PC and i am wondering
what the requirements are to unlock the championship level.....i have amateur,
pro, and tour levels unlocked but cant seem to unlock the "championship" level.
If you could help it would be MUCH appreciated.
     - My response: I'm really not sure about the PC version. Sorry!

- "Jon" writes: Great FAQ, very helpful in a lot of areas. I completed my
first RTE today (Moto I think it’s called). I thought that I remembered that
I saw posts on the FAQ’s board about turning back the system time to complete
missed RTE’s. Questions: one will this affect my current player? I am
about 126% complete and don’t really wont to have to start from scratch again.
Two: if this will not affect my player how do you change the system time?
     - My response: I've heard that changing your clock will sometimes result
in glitches in the all time records listings. (i.e. the longest drive
record will display 40000+ yards). However, other than that, there does
not appear to be any issue about changing the system clock to play the
     RTEs.

- "shorty9ers" writes: Saw your FAQ's and had a question for you. When
browsing the items to purchase, I notice that most of them have a resell value.
Is there a way to resell them? As I acheived sponsors, I kept buying stuff.
Now that my sponsorships are maxed out, I want to sell back some of the crap
I don't use.
     - My response: You can resell items. Just select that item and press
"circle" button. Warning: you get a fraction of the cash you paid for it,
and you're only hurting yourself since pro shop items count towards bonus
     completion.

- "Darren" writes: is it best 2 get all of ur attributes up first then do the
pga tour season? coz ive done 1 and came first in it so wot should i do and
which hole and wot golf caurse is it best 2 get a hole in 1?
     - My response: It's really up to you on which way you do it. I started
with the World Tour, then did the PGA Tour. As for holes in one, I would
go to TPC Sawgrass. The #17 hole is short, and if you turn off the wind,
it's only a matter of time before you get a hole in one.

- "John" writes: What is the % you need to get to to totally complete the game?
IS it 200%, or can it go even higher if you keep playing the Tour?
     - My response: I've gotten emails from folks stating that they're around
230% completion. I don't think you ever can truly complete the game.
There are only 10 seasons, and the RTEs end in 2006, but other than that,
it seems to go on forever.

- "Lou" writes: The RTEs for Father's day and Stuart Appleby's birthday only
exist in the year 2005. Pretty strange. Also, I already have 75/74 RTEs
complete. Do you know how many there are in all? I found out that the RTEs
stop in 2006.
     - My response: Thanks for the pointers! I think there are only 75.

- "NSmith" writes: Is there any way to have more that 4 user profiles? There
are more than 4 different people that play it and I was wondering if buying
a memory card would allow more people to save their profiles.
     - My response: Sorry, without using a different memory card, there's no
way to have more than 4 user profiles.

- "Erich" writes: With my created character I am able to hit straight when I
use the left analog stick, but when I use the right analog stick I seem to
always slice or hook it (whatever to the right is). I have tried to different
controllers with the same result. Is this built into the game somehow and can
I correct it?
     - My response: Seems like you're holding the controller differently.
This happens to me sometimes when I'm tired. I'll hold the controller
slightly off kilter and start slicing or hooking it. Just make sure
you're holding it straight and swinging straight back and straight
     forward.

- "eddy" writes: I was playing online for the first time. i have all my atts
maxed out and my driver says 333 yards. I was playing someone and they had a
3 wood that went 412 yards and a driver that i think went 467. how is that
possible? are they cheating or do they have super tiger woods drivers?
     - My response: They're cheating. Action Replay codes. Sucks huh?

- "Adilehg" writes: I just read your faq on Tiger Woods 2004 and it really
helps, but I still have problems driving the ball. I seem to over or under hit
the ball a lot. What is the best way to control my power? Should I cycle
through different clubs or is it better to push the controller up or down to
select where you want to place the ball on the green? For example on the
Scottsdale course there is one hole (sorry I forgot which one) where I really
overhit it yet I put my grid well below the hole.
     - My response: It's best to use the boost to try and control your power.
Use the club that gets you closest to where you want to be, then add boost
or use none to get the desired result. For example, if the hole is 220
yards from you, and your 3 iron hits it 210, then you would want to use a
few boost taps to get the ball to 220 (also note that the ball will roll
when using a long iron, so you need to take that into account). The only
time I don't use a full swing is usually with my wedge shots. Then it's
a matter of finesse in trying to get the ball as close to or into the cup.
For that, I use the closest club possible (that is past the hole), then
I take a little off the backswing based on math percentages. So if the
wedge shot will go 60 yards, and the hole is 45 yards away, then I need to
use a 75% swing. I'll take the club back about 75% of the way.

- "DGold182" writes: hi, when i first got the game, i played the first day in
the season, and i got a 40+. today is the 2nd day ive had it, and now i can
play really well. how do i erase the season and start over but save my
character and all my equipment and stuff and also save the world tour?
     - My response: You can't erase your progress without erasing your
character. EA did not include such a feature.

- "Eric" writes: ok my name is eric and ive had tiger woods pga tour 2004 for
about three months now. i was wondering if we can actually play with tiger on
the tour mode or the global thing. i mean i was really mad when i found out i
couldnt do that. so please if u can email me as soon as possible i would
greatly apprieciate it.
     - My response: Sorry! In TW2002 and TW2003, you could play as Tiger.
This year, when EA implemented the Create a Golfer mode, they make you
play the game with your created golfer. You can still use Tiger in the
     traditional modes and the skillzone.

- "J.R." writes: Are sponsors random? I play with my buddy everyday, and he has
two sponsors and I don't have a single one yet. We are equally good, I beat him
he beats me, and so on.
     - My response: Yes, the sponsors are somewhat random. They seem to occur
at scheduled intervals based on your percent completion, but the order in
     which they occur is random.

- "HR Angelico" writes: just started tournament 3 (tiger woods 2004 xbox), The
Hollywood Pro-Am. I thought a pro-am was a team match, Me with another Golfer.
Yet, I am still alone......Why would this be? Am I wrong?
     - My response: You're right about real life, but EA did not implement that
for the game. That would be way too difficult to implement.

- "Mark" writes: What mode of the game do I have to be in to record my eagles
in Penguin Falls? There's no tournament with that course. That's my last course
to complete my eagles.
     - My response: Just use any traditional game mode with mulligans off.

- "Datech" writes: In my player resume, i have 5/13 All Time Records Held.
looking at the alltime records, the longest drive is currently 37200 Yds set
by M.TA'A VATU. How am i expected to beat this??
     - My response: This is a glitch in the game. You don't have to beat that
distance. If you beat the "real" record, you'll get the all time record.

- "LarryN" writes: BlackWidow, where can I get additional information about
on-line play for TW2004? For example, is there any way to know when someone
is busy before going through the challenge sequence of clicks? What do the
different colors on the signal strength balls stand for? How do I use the
messaging system? I can’t figure out how, or when, to send the Quick Messages.
You would think that there would be some literature somewhere that would cover
the operational aspects of playing on-line but I have yet to find it. I even
emailed EA customer support but they were no help. Thanks for any guidance on
additional information. By the way, how do you set up a challenge response
system for emails on Hotmail? Thanks again.
     - My response: 1) If a player is playing, they will not be listed, so
there's no way to know otherwise. 2) The colors represent the signal
strength. Green = good, red = bad. 3) Messaging system: push down on
R3 during the game and scroll through the numbers to get the message sent
that you want. 4) Challenge response: use Mailblocks.com. You can set
it up to poll your hotmail account(s) and send challenge response emails.
     It works like a charm!

- "Troy" writes: 1. Does the speed at which you pull back and push forward on
the stick have any affect on the swing? I know if you pause at the top of your
swing for too long, the shot sucks. But I've seen many shots land way past or
way before the landing zone I picked after trying to use the same fluid swing.
This was from a flat lie to a level green with no wind. 2. Do you always take
a full swing, or do you sometimes use a half swing? I always do a test
backswing to see how far the club will go, then on the real swing, I try to
backswing to that point, then swing through. Does that sound right? 3. When I
use power on the backswing, and I think if you just do a proper swing, you get
different animations, like slow motion or full circle camera panning. Do the
animnations mean different things, and is one better than the other or are they
all just random? 4. I have a GameCube. Do you know if a friend brings his
memory card to my machine, can we load characters from each so we can play
each other or do all the characters you select have to be from the same card?
     - My response: 1) Yes. If you don't time the swing correctly, the ball
will not go as far. Do the tutorial to get the timing down. 2) I don't
always use a full swing. Especially if I'm using a wedge and I'm at a
"between club" distance. It's a matter of "feel" on how far back to take
those swings. Use the percentages as a guide. 3) The animations are
random. However, if you get full power, the commentators will always make
a comment such as "Whoa" or something like that. It varies. 4) Your
friend can bring over his memory card, but you can only use one memory
card slot with the game. EA did not include dual memory card support.

- "Kevin" writes: I have a question, I have been playing online for some time
now and I have heard that when you complete everything in the game, your drive
is maxed to about 450 yards on average. I was curious if you knew anything
about this or if there was any validity to this. I am at 226% completion and
96% bonus, all I need yet are career money leader, winning % and the 18 majors.
This has been boggling me, asI have heard both sides of the argument and would
just like to know if it is worht the effort to go through all the tournaments
to get this.
     - My response: Sorry, this is a nasty rumor. There really is no "end" to
the game. You can only play 10 seasons with your player, and the RTE's
end in 2006, but even then, you'll still have the standard driving
     distances.

- "Chuckie" writes: Hi there...been looking at your faq at IGN; and got just a
few dozen questions...not. #1-can I change the name of my created player
without losing it? #2 how do ya use the keyboard to make logos/tatoos?
     - My response: 1) Sorry, can't change the name. EA did not include that
option. 2) Not sure really. I haven't played around with the logos at
     all. Sorry I couldn't help!

- "Andrew" writes: My question is thus: I read the two passwords for Cedic the
Entertainer and Sherwood Target course, but what must I do in the game to
actually learn these passwords? I guess I could just put them in but, what fun
is that instead of earning them.
     - My response: Sorry, both passwords are not in the game so to speak. The
Target Challenge one was only included if you bought the game at Target,
then those folks posted it on the web. The Cedric code is only available
on the web as well. There's no way to "earn" that password in the game
     either.

- "Pat" writes: can you tell me how many majors there are in a year? and
possibly which ones they are? because i notice they are not all listed, and as
you know, you need 18 for the tracking tiger ball, so what i want to know is
how many seasons i need to complete to get this tracking tiger ball....
     - My response: There are 4 each year. They all have "Major" in the title.

- "Mario" writes: I have purchased all the Nike equipment (drivers, clubs,
woods, and putter). My golfer has 136% power on every attribute. When I use
the 400cc Series drivers, I can only go a max distance of about 200 yards
(depending on what size driver I use). If I use the ITG Series drivers, I can
hit the ball 461 yards. Do you possibly have any insight as to why the Nike
brand has short distance than the default clubs?
     - My response: Well, It sounds like you're using cheat codes to be able to
get 136%. I have no idea how those codes work. I don't use them. Sorry!

- "Curtis" writes: 1) If you reject a sponsor, will they offer more lately?
2) If you have four "dots" in an attribute (u know the attribute multipliers
that items can get you at the proshop), and you buy something that add more
to that attribute, do you get better or not.
     - My response: Not sure if the sponsors come back with more money. I had
a guy email me that (using the PC Version - very different) he turned
down his sponsors, and he never got any more sponsors. Sounds risky to me.
If you spend a lot of time creating a character, you want to be able to
have the sponsors. I think I put in the FAQ that once you have the 4 dot
modifier, that's it. You could be wearing 10 4-dot items for luck, but you
only get the one 4-dot effect. In addtion, if you don't have any 4-dot
items, you cannot achieve a 4-dot modifier. You could be wearing 10 3-dot
items, and your modifier will only be three dots.

- "Zac" writes: One of the questions that you answered was about the side games
in tournaments... the only side games I've had in PGA Tour mode was when I tied
for 1st place after the final round of play. It was a shoot-out for the first
place winner.
     - My response: Thanks for the tip! I've never actually tied in a
tournament yet. The AI players in the first season are not very low
scorers. I'll add it into the FAQ

- "Jason" and many others write: Hi there. Big thanks for all of the work on
this game. I don't know where else to turn as i am having a problem. I have
recieved a ball for all 75 par 5's. I have also completed the scenarios. I have
not recieved the Eagle Hunt trophy ball thus I am unable to purchase the Best
driver. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.
     - My response: You're the third person in about a week to email me with
this problem. The other two guys emailed me back saying that they got
their eagle hunt ball when they got another eagle during regular
tournament or world tour play. Seems to be a glitch in the game.

- "Jaime" writes: Hi, Is there any way to change the difficulty in tiger woods
2004? Not the course difficulty but the ability of your opponents. Thanks.
     - My response: Sorry, the only way to increase the difficulty is to play
online. Otherwise it's stuck on the setting the game comes with.

- "Andy" writes: I was wondering if there is any rhyme or reason to the way
the bonus balls come up in the arcade "target" game. I have had them randomly
come up but i didnt know if there is anything that I could do to make them
come up more frequentley. And also, what is the fastest way to earn money when
you first start out, my player isn't good enough to beat people in the world
tour yet and I want to know the fastest way to get cash?
     - My response: Good question on the bonus balls. I think it's based off
of your performance. When I'm doing really well, I get lots of 5x bonus
balls and the like, but even when I'm doing poorly, I often get a few
bonus balls. I think it's random. The best way to get cash is to win
tournaments. Takes a little while to play four rounds, but you get tons
of cash for winning, the AI is not very good in the first few tournaments,
and you get bonus cash if you get any trophy balls (birdie buster, long
drive, etc.) There are a few other ways, but I just started out with the
world tour and did all the first round guys in each region. They're
really short since each is only 9 holes, and they're not too good, so it's
    easy to beat them.

- "Kevin" writes: Do you know any of the brands that sell the controllers with
the Turbo feature and where to get them? I can get the all red but you need
the turbo to hang with the other players while playing on line.
     - My response: Get the Logitech Extreme Action controller. Best Buy sells
it, it's like $25. It's much better than the standard PS2 controller.
It has rubberized grips, programmable turbo, and it doesn't feel cheaply
made like some other 3rd party controllers. Best Buy also has free
     shipping right now.

- "Frank" writes: hello, i just recently purchased tiger woods 2004 and i was
just wondering if you had an opinion on the best way to build your player up
at the beginning of the game, and as you progress, and if you could recommend
which clothes and stuff to buy at the beginning of the game. thank you.
     - My response: Well, it's really up to you how you do it, but here's what
I did: 1) Started with the World Tour. You don't get sponsorship bonuses
for that anyways, so I bought no new clothes (except for some really cheap
ones at the very beginning to make my character look OK). 2) Built up my
attributes going through the World Tour, pretty much ignoring the pro
shop. 3) Once I was done with the World Tour, my attributes were pretty
high, so I started with the PGA Tour Season, and bought whatever was my
highest sponsorship at the time (I had around 7 or so sponsors). 4) By
the time I got my last sponsor (Nike), I was hauling in $150,000 in bonus
sponsor cash per round played ($600K per tournament - often more than the
winners share of the purse). 5) I bought "4-dot" items first to get the
max multiplier to my attributes. Then I just bought the stuff I thought
     I needed.

- "Jeremy" writes: is there any way at all to unlock phil mickelson, davis love
III, david duval ernie els, sergio garcia.. and so on. I think ive tried
eveything
     - My response: Sorry, they're not in the game.

Chapter 27) GLITCH LIST (EA - PLEASE FIX FOR TW2005!)

If you know of any other glitches, email me.

1) Eagle Challenge Ball
     - Once you get your 75th eagle, the game doesn't give you the trophy ball
right away. You have to get another eagle (any eagle, it doesn't matter) to
get the trophy ball.
     - There are other trophy balls like this too. The 100% completion ball
comes to mind. You actually need to hit 101% completion.
     - This is silly. Either call it the Eagle Challenge + One ball, or the
101% completion ball.

2) Tiger's Dream 18
     - The Tiger's Dream 18 course counts towards your records for the Spyglass
Hill course because the last hole in the Tiger's Dream 18 is from Spyglass
Hill. This is silly. Either have a separate records list for Tiger's Dream
18, or have it not count for anything.
     - The difficulty of the course (Hard) is also based off of Spyglass Hill.

3) Driver Selection
     - Having to deselect any other club in order to change the degree of your
driver is silly. The game forces you to always, always, always have at least
one driver selected. This makes you select two of them in order to change the
driver degree.
     - EA: Just allow the player to select another driver degree, then don't
allow the player to leave the club selection screen without selecting at least
one driver.

4) In the Bag
     - I'm not the only one who's had this problem: the game not saving your
club selections from the "in the bag" menu.
     - EA: Fix this please! I've gotten it to work for me after fumbling
around with it, but I've had this problem with TW2003 as well!

5) Records List
     - I've had countless emails on what the all time records really are. The
"standard" eight are easy to figure out, but the skillzone ones are not.
     - EA: List which records are required to get the all time records.
     - In addition, I've gotten emails from folks saying their records do not
save all the time when in the skillzone modes. Please fix!

6) Percent completion
     - I've seen one post on a board that says they've gotten over 243%
completion. This is silly. Either have the game stop at 100% or 200%, but
anything else is silly.
     - In addition, it's difficult to figure out what the bonus completion
means. Is it the pro shop completion? Trophy ball completion? What?
     - In addition, you don't get the 100% completion ball at 100%. Why? Why
do you need 101% to get the 100% ball?

7) Number of RTEs
     - I've heard from several folks that they have 75/74 RTE completion listed
in their resume. Again, bad math by EA folks.
     - Also, why are the Father's Day and Stuart Appleby's Birthday RTE's only
available in 2005? I don't think many people will be playing TW2004 in 2005,
we'll all be playing TW2005 or TW2006 by then!
     - Finally, why do the RTE's end in 2006 when you can play up to 10 PGA
Tour Seasons?

8) Online
     - I've heard from several folks, and have experienced this myself:
sometimes when logging on, the game deletes your setup options. This wiped out
my online quick message list, and changed all the game defaults for both the
online and offline versions of the game.
     - Also, someone emailed me stating that their online record was erased.

9) Extremely long drives and putts
     - I've heard from many folks that their records list gets corrupted. They
have 40000+ foot putts and 40000+ yard drives at the top of their lists. This
seems to be correlated to those folks who have "cheated" at the RTE's by
changing their system clocks, but not always.
     - This is a minor glitch though. Apparently you can still achieve the
all time records by beating the "true" record, but why does this need to occur?

10) Cheaters online
     - Cheaters ruin online games. I've seen negative scores in the online
tournaments. Negative scores! Also, I've played against guys with "super"
stats from an Action Replay device. Shoot, Gamepro just published those codes
with their January issue.
     - EA: 2 words for you: XBox Live. Easy enforcement. Mandatory patches.
Enough said. If you're not going to do that, fix the game from the get go so
that cheaters cannot play online period! It can't be that hard.

11) Side Games
     - These occured very frequently in TW2002 and TW2003, but in TW2004, for
some reason, they only occur in traditional mode games, and in the Tiger
Challenge 3 hole tournament.
     - Looks like a glitch to me. If EA meant for this to only occur in
the traditional modes, why are "Side Games" listed in the stats rollup at the
end of every round?
     - Finally, "Zac" above states that they do occur in the PGA Tour Season,
but only if you go into a playoff. Weird.

I also post/read the IGN.com Tiger Woods and Gamefaqs.com Tiger Woods message
boards on occasion. I'm either BW26 or Blackwidow26 depending on the site.

Also, if anyone from EA Sports is reading this, I'll gladly help playtest
TW2005 for free! Contact me at: blackwidow_gamefaqs@hotmail.com
