*************************** INTRODUCTION *****************************
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rave Groove Adventure is a multiplayer fighting game for the GameCube
by Konami. It supports up to four players, who fight using weapons
and bonuses dropped onto the playfield. It bears a strong resemblance
to the Power Stone(tm) series by Capcom. Rave Groove Adventure is
considerably simpler than Power Stone - there are fewer weapons and
power ups and the stages are not interactive - but it is, IMHO, better
balanced in play.

RAVE GROOVE ADVENTURE IS *NOT* A MUSIC GAME.
EVEN THOUGH IT'S MADE BY KONAMI.
EVEN THOUGH IT'S GOT 'RAVE' AND 'GROOVE' IN THE TITLE.
EVEN THOUGH IT'S GOT A CHARACTER CALLED MUSICA.
EVEN THOUGH IGNCUBE PUT IT IN THE MUSIC CATEGORY.
IT STILL ISN'T A MUSIC GAME.

*************************** TRANSLATIONS *****************************
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The main menu is in English, but most other options screens are in
Japanese.

When you start a game in Story Mode, after selecting your character,
the option shown is the game difficulty, Easy/Normal/Hard. The
default is Normal.

When you start a game in Free Mode, after selecting your character,
the three options shown are: Difficulty (as above), number of CPU
enemies, and number of stocks (lives).

In Versus mode, the four player slots will be shown in a square. Each
has three options: Character, Player Type (Human/Computer/None) and
Team. Which Team the player is on is determined by the first kanji of
the option setting. After this, the Stage Setting screen also allows
you to select Game Type (at the top), and a parameter for this
(middle).

The standard options menu is:

Sound Stereo/Mono
SE Volume
Serif Volume
BGM Volume
Weapon/rave/DB names (toggles the display of the name as a caption over the
                      item)
Key Config
Auto Save
Save/Load
Reset to Defaults
Exit

The EX options menu is available from the start, and contains CG art,
sound tests and extra options and features. Many of these need to be
unlocked. Here is a list of what I know so far together with the
means of unlocking it:

2.2 - Story Edit Mode
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Story Edit mode must be unlocked as shown above. It then appears in
the menu after EX Options.

The opening menu:
  Create story
  Play story

Choosing Play will send you to a memory card menu to choose a story to
play.

Choosing Create gives:
  New
  Load

Once you have selected one, you will see a scene of story displayed.
Basically, you will move through editing steps in order. Pressing A
moves a step forward and B moves a step back. Backing off the end
will abort story edit mode, with an 'are you sure' dialog..

You can edit the following things, in this order:

Left hand picture, for first conversation line of first battle
First quote, for first conversation line of first battle
Right hand picture, for first conversation line of first battle
Second quote, for first conversation line of first battle
Left hand picture, for SECOND conversation line of first battle
First quote, for SECOND conversation line of first battle
Right hand picture, SECOND first conversation line of first battle
Second quote, for SECOND conversation line of first battle
... and so on for four conversation lines ...
  Background music select
  Player character in battle
  Opponent in battle
Another battle (top option) or end of story (bottom option)?
(If you choose another battle, the entire sequence repeats for each
battle. When you end the story...)
  Ending text
  Name of story
(Menu: Save (top), test (middle), exit (bottom))

When editing a quote, press X to move to the string editor. The buttons
on the top let you choose a character set or quickly insert a common
phrase (character name, weapon name, etc.) When editing any conversation
line, press Z to change the background shown.

************************ RULES AND CONTROLS **************************
----------------------------------------------------------------------

3.1 - Basic Controls
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Analog - Move character
B - Weak attack. All characters can combo these.
A - Strong attack. Most characters can't combo these
                    but some can.
X - Jump
Y - Use Rave DB special power
L - Block
Z - Drop / Switch Weapon, Rave DB, or Item
R - Use Groove Attack
L+R - Use Ultimate Groove Attack

JUMPING: All characters can double jump by hitting X a second time
while in the air. You can jump one direction while facing another by
jumping while facing the way you want to face, and then after hitting
X very quickly pushing the analog in the direction you want to jump.

DOWN EVASION: Press A quickly when knocked down.

GROOVE ENERGY: Underneath the life boxes at the top of the screen is
your Groove Gauge. This goes up as you attack and is used for
activating special moves.

POWER BLOCK: If you block an attack by hitting the trigger just as the
attack lands, you gain some Groove Energy.

PURU: This irritating little fellow runs around on all stages. He
will normally not be involved in the fight unless somebody is using the
Conflict Rave. However, you can beat on him, and you can send him
flying into the opponent or whack him for Groove Energy.

3.2 - Weapons and Groove Attacks
---------------------------------------------------------------------

There are ten different weapons available in Rave Groove Adventure.
Weapons (and other things) arrive in crates which can be broken open
with any attack. To pick up a weapon, stand on top of it
and press Z. You can hold only one weapon at a time, so if you already
have a weapon, you'll throw it down when you pick a new one up. You can
also press Z at any time to throw down your weapon and fight with your
bare hands.

Every character has a 'groove weapon', which is a weapon they are
particularly good with. When using this weapon they will be more
effective somehow (exactly how depends on the character). Also, every
weapon can perform a 'groove attack' which is activated by the R
trigger. This will consume some of your Groove Energy to create a
special move. Note than anyone can use the Groove Attack of any
weapon; it does not have to be your Groove Weapon.

Being hit with a strong A attack will usually make you drop your weapon.
When your life runs out, you drop your weapon and all your Rave DBs.

TEN COMMANDMENTS (TCM): This weapon looks like a huge, wide-
bladed sword with a silvery blade.
Groove Attack: Sword Art - One Stroke Defying Bolt. Creates a
series of waves along the ground.

DECALOGS: This weapon looks similar to TCM but the blade is dark
black. It is basically an evil version of TCM.
Groove Attack: Sword Art - One Stroke Defying Bolt. Creates a
series of waves along the ground.

MATTER IS VOID: A gold-handled sword.
Groove Attack: The Draw Is All There Is. A single huge swing
  which inflicts great damage.

BAYONET: A sword with a pistol grip.
Groove Attack: Phantom Creature Claw. Creates a dragon spirit
which flies around the stage hitting the enemy.

HEAVEN'S JUSTICE COLOR: A sword with a silver grip.
Groove Attack: Method of defeating three gangs. An automatic
  series of swings.
(Note: The Kanji name of this sword is the same as that of
'Matter Is Void' but with the first and last symbols switched.)

THUNDER: A huge hammer.
Groove Attack: Magnitude Buster. A huge earthquake attack
which covers most of the stage.

DANCING WOLF: A short sword with a pistol-like grip.
Groove Attack: Dance With Rhythm. Creates a ball of energy
which bounces around rhythmically, chasing the opponent.

KNIFE: It's.. a knife.
Groove Attack: Musical Knife Throw. Throws a long series of
  knives.

GANZU TONFA: A tonfa (looks a bit like a nightstick).
Groove Attack: Super Ganzu Tonfa Random Firing. Shoots bullets
  in random directions.

SILVER SPEAR: Appears to be a skull. When picked up by anyone
except Musica, it disappears. See Musica's character section.

3.3 - Rave DBs
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Rave DBs are spherical power-up items. They appear in crates in
the same way weapons do, and are picked up in the same way. Your
character can hold up to three Rave DBs, one of each colour. If
you try and pick up a Rave DB of a colour you're already holding,
you will drop the current one and pick the new one up. You cannot
drop a Rave DB by any other means.
All your time your character is holding a Rave DB they will
gain a power-up effect as described below.

RED DBs - These improve your attacks.

Shiva's Rave
An explosion will occur whenever any of your attacks hits.
This is the ONLY Rave DB that doesn't look like a sphere. It
  looks like a small sword.
Walther Flame
Your attacks will set fire to the enemy. This will deal
continuous damage over time. Looks like a red sphere with a
  flame icon.
Real Moment
Increases the reach of your weapon attacks. Looks like a red
sphere with an icon of two swords.
Angry Blitz
Lightning from your attacks will freeze your opponent. Looks
like a red sphere with a lightning bolt icon.
Monster Prison
Increase attack power. Looks like a red sphere with a fist
  icon.

BLUE DBs - These improve your defence.

Knowledge Rave
Your life gauge slowly recovers. Looks like a blue sphere with
  a paw icon.
Full Metal
You turn into a metallic form, increasing defence power. Looks
like a blue sphere with a diamond icon.
Smoke Bar
You are covered in smoke when jumping, making you invincible.
Looks like a blue sphere with a smoky design made up of circles.
End Of Earth
Your Groove Gauge slowly increases. Looks like a blue sphere with
the letters GG written in it.
Warp Road
Down Evasion is automatically performed. Looks like a blue sphere
with a looped arrow in it.

YELLOW DBs - These grant you special attacking moves. To use the moves
press the Y button. Using these moves will cost you energy from your
Groove Gauge.

Conflict Rave
Press Y to make Puru attack the nearest enemy to itself with a ranged
attack. Looks like a yellow sphere with a wings icon.
Black Zenith
Press Y to fire a multiple-hitting sphere of darkness in the
direction you're moving. Looks like an empty yellow sphere (actually
a yellow sphere with a sphere icon!)
Barretts Flare
Press Y to set an invisible bomb that takes a while to go off. Listen
for the bleeping sounds to hear it tracking your opponent. Looks
like a yellow sphere with a grid icon.
Glue Tear
Press Y to throw a blob of glop which will stick to the enemy
and hinder their movement for a while. If you miss, the glop hangs
around and will stick to anyone who runs through it. Looks like a
yellow sphere with a droplet icon.
Needle Pine
Press Y to set a spike trap at the current location. When an
enemy gets near the trap expands, hitting them. Looks like a yellow
sphere with a spike icon which is easily mistaken for a mountain.

3.4 - Other Items
---------------------------------------------------------------------

There are three other items which may appear on the field. These items
are not carried for any length of time so you can pick them up whenever
you wish.

GROOVE JEWEL (looks like a green gem) - Adds 50% groove energy.

ELIXIR (looks like a bottle) - Adds 50% life.

1UP - Adds an extra stock, effectively meaning your opponents must beat
you one more time to win the battle.

3.5 - UGA (Ultimate Groove Attack)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The UGA is the real 'super move' of Rave Groove Adventure. Activating a
UGA will release a massive and devastating attack that cannot be blocked
and in some cases cannot be dodged.

Each character has their own UGA. To unleash a UGA the following
conditions must be met:

- Your character must be wielding their Groove Weapon.
- Your character must have an appropriate combination of Rave DBs as
  listed in the Characters section.
- Your character's Groove Gauge must be maxed out.

Got all those? Cool. Hit the L and R triggers together and watch the
fireworks. Some UGA's need to be aimed, but others don't. As you've
probably guessed, by the time your enemy gets their UGA started you're
already in big trouble, so find out what your opponent needs for their
UGA and fight hard to keep it from them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
**************************** CHARACTERS ******************************
----------------------------------------------------------------------

HARU
Groove Weapon: Ten Commandments Sword (TCM). The Ten Commandments
is normally an awkward and slow weapon, but when wielded by Haru
it can channel the power of Rave DBs to transform itself into other
    forms. The forms are:
EXPLOSION (fiery blade): Does extra damage.
SILFARION (silver blade): Has extra range. Standard Groove attack
is now a series of charges and teleports into the opponent.
RUNE SAVE (green blade): Increases Groove Gauge. Standard Groove
Attack is now a homing missile that freezes the opponent.
Two Swords (name unknown): Inflicts elemental damage with A hits.
Standard Groove Attack shoots two arcing bolts.

UGA Rave: Haru must have Shiva's Rave, plus any other combination of
raves that puts the sword in "Explosion" form (the blade
            looks fiery).
UGA: EXPLOSION SWORD ART: BOMBING DANCE! (Bakuhatsukengi:
Bakugekiranbu) Haru charges at the opponent over and
over again, blowing them up every time. You need to aim
him at the opponent before doing the move for this to work
            best.

ELIE
  Groove Weapon: Ganzu Tonfa.
UGA Rave: Elie can do a weak UGA with Shiva's Rave OR Knowledge Rave
OR Conflict Rave. For a stronger version she needs TWO of
            these.
UGA: FOOL! With only one Rave this is just a slightly longer
version of the standard Super Random Firing Groove Attack of
the Tonfa. With two, she shoots a huge energy beam and
slowly pans it across a short angle.

MUSICA
Groove Weapon: Silver Spear. When Musica picks up the Skull, it
transforms into a spear. Only Musica can use the groove attack.
(Be warned. If your opponent knocks this weapon from you, they can
attempt to pick it up so it disappears, so denying you the chance
to hit them and get it back.)
Groove Attack: Showy Silver Spin. Musica creates a whirlwind
which pursues the opponent a little.
UGA Rave: Musica must have any TWO of: Shiva's Rave OR Knowledge Rave
            OR Conflict Rave.
UGA: GOSBERIAN SILVER! Musica creates a HUGE whirlwind which
surrounds him then begins to move around the stage.

LET
Groove Weapon: Bare fists. Let can do a regular Groove Attack
    (Fire Breath) while unarmed.
UGA Rave: Let must have no rave DBs.
UGA: HEAVEN HERO DISPLAY! (Tenryuukohaku) Let does a huge charge
            at the opponent.

SHUDA
Groowe Weapon: Heaven's Justice Color sword.
UGA Rave: Shuda needs either Waltzer Flame or Barrets Flare.
UGA: BURST BLAZE RESOLUTION! (Bakuen no kakugo) A grid appears
around Shuda. After a few seconds, he explodes in a huge blast.
This will seriously damage Shuda as well as the opponent.

LANCE
  Groove Weapon: Bayonet.
UGA Rave: Lance must have Real Moment.
UGA: FANGS OF EVERY ANIMAL! (Hyakujyuu no kiba) Lance creates
a barrage of spirit creatures which smash into the enemy for
    damage.

GO
  Groove Weapon: Thunder Hammer.
UGA Rave: Go must have Angry Blitz.
UGA: SURE KILL THUNDER DUNK FEST! (Hissatsu SANDAADANKUFESUTO)
He smacks the floor with his hammer and a lightning bolt flies into
the sky. A moment later a number of random lightning bolts strike
    all over the stage.

ROSA
  Groove Weapon: Dancing Wolf.
UGA Rave: Rosa must have Angry Blitz.
UGA: IT'S A DANCE TIME!!! Disco lights shine all over the
stage (!) and any MALE characters will be frozen, dancing
crazily, for a few seconds. Rosa is free to move and beat on the
frozen characters. They will remain frozen until the move ends
regardless of her beating on them.
[This is RIDICULOUS. Drain someone's life to zero, start this up and
they'll be dancing when they respawn. Beat the hell out of them with
the Dancing Wolf and you can easily kill them again before they finish
dancing. And then of course, you STILL have the Dancing Wolf, the
Angry Blitz AND the groove energy from killing them....]

SIEG HART
  Groowe Weapon: Bare Fists.
UGA Rave: Sieg must have no rave DBs.
  UGA: SPACE MAGIC GRAN SHARIO!

GALE
Groove Weapon: Matter Is Void sword.
UGA Rave: Gale must have all three of Shiva's Rave, Knowledge Rave and
            Conflict Rave.
UGA: SKY SECRET BLADE: SKY CONTROLLED KILL!

KING
Groove Weapon: Decalogs sword. In King's hands, Decalogs transforms
in the same way as TCM.
UGA Rave: King must have Monster Prison, plus any other combination of
raves that puts the sword in "D*Explosion" form.
UGA: EXPLOSION SWORD ART: DESPERADO BOMB!

POOSYA
Groove Weapon: Glue Tear. (No, this is not a mistake.)
UGA Rave: Poosya must have the Glue Tear.
UGA: OMEGA RAIN! A bunch of weird spiked threads shoot out of
Poosya's head and attack the enemy.

ANIKI
  Nothing known at present...
