Yager - Strategy Guide (Page 02)
Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Yager - Strategy Guide (Page 02).
Now I'd like ot point number 3. The Secondary fire is like a little bomb. Press A and lots of little ka-boombs go flying. You use this function against the drones that come round the hills. Dont target them, just target the hill behind them. The Splash damage will knock a lot of drones away. Now, the first part is quite annoying, but a lot easier than the machine gun at the Free Tee Zee. Why? Because the gun follows targets. You might not notice it, but when stuff is in range, the target and the direction of the gun are in two different places. Note that although the design of the gun turret is annoying cause you cant see well, the main problem is not destoying the platform yourself. Remember: DONT SHOOT THE PLATFORM!!!! Ok, the first few drones come at you from the N. They pop over the hill. Just as they are about to float down over the hill, point the gun just beneath their path and fire at the hill with the secondary fire. You'll drop a small bomb that will go ka-boom, and by then the drones will be somewhere near the area where the bomb hit and will go boom as well. The next set of drones will come from the West, and with a bit of guessing, you'll have to aim for the hill between the pole and the house that sits on the platform. They are in the way,and it really sucks, cause I dropped far too many bombs here and lost the mission because I blew up the platform. There should be a third wave of drones. These come from the North. From the same place you shot the first wave. The rest should be fire birds (drone flying things... I call them fire birds cause thats what Magnus calls them, and I cant be bothered looking at the data on the ships.) There's not a lot to say about taking htese out because its hard to choregraph the waves, since they are near impossible to take out before the next wave comes at you. But I do know this. The first wave comes over the hills in the North, next two come from both the canyon on the NE to E. This is where you should focus most of your fire power, to the NW, N and NE. Take out any straglers that go behind you before they get out of range. If you wound a fire bird, take it out, because if it makes a 2nd run, it will apply more shots into the platform. In other words, they get more and more stronger the longer they stay alive. You will know if a fire bird is in range, untill you can make out its shape without zooming in. Basically, if the inner part of the crosshair can fit inside the graphic, pull the trigger. Otherwise, track it, and keep pulling, the targetting computer will the do the rest when it gets close enough. (But try not to do the latter, this hurts your accuracy, even though you have an average accuracy to gain, excess shooting might make you slip under. AND, you just might hit the platform if you decide to keep your finger on the trigger as you track that drone.) Ok, if you managed to survive the fisrt part, remember how you did it... It's a hard part of the mission, and remembering how you did most of it will allow you to anticipate drone movement and waves. Anyway... CHECK POINT. When you take to the skies, let me point out two threats that will make you lose the mission. There are two turrets to the North East. Now you are to take these out before you decide doing any dog fights. They are extreemly accurate, even when executing evasive manouvers. Move forward until you reach the edge of the Canyon. on your right, on the other end of the canyon You should see a turret, and a few trees nearby. Find an area where you can both see the turret when zoomed in, while avoiding the drone patrols and the turret range itself. Snipe it to death with your lazer. Go back to the Platform, and then head north from the platform, stopping when you reach the top of the hill. You should now see the second turret that was hidden from the trees. Blast that. Now that the guns are gone, check your radar and engage any drone nearby. There will be three waves of drones that will attempt to attck the platform. The first two come from the SE and the North. Thy come about the same time. The third one will be later, so make sure to check back on Boris now and then. Once you know that the platform will be relatively safe for a few minuets, head east. check your radar for orange. These things are dangerous, even though they dont shoot. They replace and create new drones. So taking them out slows down production, taking them all out will win you the mission. Anyway, the dog fights are relatively easy once you take out those orange garbage trucks. Just dont get shot to pieces. Like I always say, keep your accuracy high and take out as much as you can in Jet mode. And at least snipe something once for a 100% sniper accuracy bonus. Pick ups, ok. There are three north of Ural C. There are two near Ural C, its to its NW. There are two West, to SW of the Repair point (in those 2 drone things) There is one directly south of the platform. These total 8. You need 8, but there is a possible 11 altogether... Unless you like exploring the entire map for hours, then be my guest, I tried, but gave up. I only found 1 pick up from this long search - the one to the south of the platform. You can search for others, but otherwise, use the ones I found, it will get you the star at least. k.) A NURSEMAID IN THE DARKNESS. I HATE!! This mission.... Why? Because I cant figure out how to finish the last bonus task! Where you complete the mission on time! ARG!!! The reason? That stupid little BIG hunk of space junk! The BSF09. This thing really gets in my way, and I have yet to find a way to defeat it! But I'll get to that later. The other problems you will encounter will be Kill ratio and probably Ace bonus as you will spend most of your time in hover mode and the Kill bonuses come from the destruction of the mines which are situated in out of the way places. Onto the Mission. Your task is to escort your new friend Karpov and his new flashy ship to the other end of the map: The Loco shed. Hed into the valley in jet mode, you'll notice a small drone trying to get away when you get into visual range, come in close then blast it and take its pick up. If you hover into the valey, you'll lose the drone as it will float over a hill and you have to remember that you have to stay with Karpov's ship. So jet mode into the valley then hover to take it out. If you played this mission a few times, it's best if you stay ahead of Karpov, but stay in visual range. Here's the tricky part. Keep in mind that as you go along, you will notice lots of mines around. Your task is to cpear out the drones then take pot shots at the mines on eihter side of your path. Its like mail boxes, you are goiong down the road that is full of postmen, take them out, then take out the mail boxes. This is the reason it's always best to stay well ahead of Karpov. A good pilot will kill everything before Karpov get's there... So when he actually gets there, you should take out as many mines around you as possible. The path.. Ok, once you take out the first drone with the pick up, follow the pipe line and you will see your first mine on your right - North of the Pipe line. If you are fast enough, fly in, blast awawy a few then get back to the pipe line - by this time, Karpov would have asked you to come back, so get into visual range. By the time Karpov say's "The pipe line is active today" you should already be in the first arena. Arena 1. The drones don't come out until Karpov comes in. But you can always blast'em out. when you enter, there sould be two drones over the small hill on your left, they are waiting in ambush for you and Karpov, pick one and blast them with your laser, then finish off the rest with machine gun ammo, (dont worry, there's plenty more of that where it came from.) If you look at your radar, there will be a heavy concentration of mines (orange dots) over a hill. When Karpov says "We'll head over to that little lake" You should already be blasting awawy at the mines. Take out as many as you can in the least amount of time. When you are ready to proceed, head over to the little green lake and take out the drones with your machine gun. A smart but dangerous way of taking out as many drones as you can before Karpov gets moving is to lure the lakeside drones into the next arena. So by the time you take out the lakeside drone, you'd already be shooting out the drones which are situated in Arena 2. And if you were quick enough, Karpov would not have fired a shot. He would still be making his way across the lake. Arena 2. When half the drones are killed off in Arena 2 some fire birds will come along. There are two fighters and two bomers. You would have met the Bomber in STRANGERS IN THE FRIGHT mission earlier. These things are big, slow, but maneuverable and about twice as deadly as a fighter. Anyway, once these things come along, take out the bobmers. They will target you, and if you took a beating earlier at the lake (or took my advice about baiting the Drones along into the second arena) then the bomers will kill you. When the bombers are gone, head for the Repair point nearby, just north of the big building refinery thing. When you are donr repairing, take a small look around you, the repair point is surrounded in mines. Take out your laser and take them out. when you're done, head back to Karpov, he should have either taken out the rest, or should be busy fighting the last few. Help him out by taking out any straglers in the air - Karpov can EASILY take out the drones faster than you can, so dont worry. BONUS TASK Look at that building in the middle of the Arena. Its the tall one. On it's back are two large pipes comming out of the ground then into the top of the buildig. Blow them. You will notice that when both are blown up, there will be a jagged hole in the building due to the explosion. Aim INSIDE the hole and take out the tank that is sitting inside the building. It will release 3 pick ups. Some missiles and machine gun ammo, I forgot what the third pick up was. Now! Once Karpov gets moving, he will lead you to the BSF09. Ok, this thing is my nemesis of all games. I can kill it, dont get me wrong, but it takes me ages!!!! Trying to get it to show you its back is hard. Karpov does not help. He hanges around the east edge of the cavern, suposedly distracting the thing for you to pop its behind. However, after being e-mailed numerous times on how to beat certain bosses, I decided to spen a whole hour devoted to the destruction of the BSF09. Its not a full proof plan, but it should work. 1) Follow Karpov into the cavern, then hover low so the BSF09 wont see you. Work your way to the other end of the cavern and emerge on the west side of the cavern. You will see a few rocks sitting nearby, take cover here. 2) The BSF09 should be distracted by Karpov, take out your rail gun and hit it as much as you can. 3) A Good way to make multi shot combo's is to lock onto the BSF09, then fire a rail shot, then a homing missile. It should both hit... Keep doing this until it dies. 4) The BSF09 should be defeated after half your rail shots are used up (or so I think.) Once you defeated the BSF09, there should be 2 drones nearby, take them out and take the pick ups they have, then follow Karpov to the Loco shed. Mission complete - lets hope that the bonus task of finishing quickly worked out.
