Lord Of The Rings, The: The Two Towers - Strategy Guide (Page 03)
Below are the cheat codes, hints and help for Lord Of The Rings, The: The Two Towers - Strategy Guide (Page 03).
The Cave Troll trades his club for a Chain Whip. Legolas will then
leap up on a ledge.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part II - The Chain Whip
This section might get a bit tough with Legolas, but don’t get
discouraged. You have a very limited space to move here. But make the
most of it. There are two sections to this ledge: a left portion & a
right portion (great names, huh?). On each of these sections stand
three pillars which you will use for defense.
But enough about that because right away, an orc will attack you from
the left. Dispose of him with fierce (T) attacks.
Now for the chain-wielding Cave Troll. Get behind a pillar quickly
because the monster will whip his chain at you. And wouldn’t you
rather have a pillar take the hit rather than you? This is especially
crucial with Legolas as one whip from the chain will take a good 1/3
of your life meter. After he whips his chain, step out slightly from
behind the pillar and fire your arrows at him.
Note: Now, since Legolas is fast with arrows, you can probably shoot
off a good 3-4 arrows at once before having to take cover behind
the pillars again.
After firing your arrows, get behind the pillar again. But be warned:
the pillars will eventually break, leaving you open to attack. If this
happens, move to another pillar. If you find yourself in the
unfortunate situation where ALL of the pillars are broken, run around
and wait for the Cave Troll to whip his chain (away from you!). In
the brief moment that he retracts his weapon, fire some arrows (again,
no more than two at a time, unless you’re brave) at him. Repeat this
process.
Now, from time to time, a pesky orc will make it his goal in life to
annoy you by jumping up on the ledge and attacking you. Get rid of
him with fierce (T) attacks. Sometimes, the orc will drop “full life”
potions.
So, if you find yourself running low on arrows, don’t worry, just run
to the end of the right portion of the ledge. There you will find a
quiver of arrows conveniently waiting for you. Pick them up and fire
away. Oh, and the quiver will periodically reappear.
Another Strategy:
If you stand near a pillar, the chain won't hit you. So you can keep
standing beside a pillar and shoot arrows into the troll while he
keeps bashing his chain. If you do this, the troll drops around the
same time that you run out of pillars. (Special thanks to Michael
Mittag for this strategy.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
When you beat the Cave Troll, he will fall over. (Yay!)

--------
AS GIMLI
--------
Gimli is a tank - he can take the hits, so park yourself next to the
door and hack away, attempting combo attacks to build up your skill
meter, as this area is a fine place to gain lots of experience.
Many orcs will rush through the door, ready to attack. Now that you
purchased some combo attacks after the last mission, use them. An
effective combo attack is Balin’s Swift Terror (X X T). However, it
will take about three of these combo attacks in a row to fill your
skill meter. But keep trying. If you find you can’t pull off many
combos with Gimli, don’t worry. Instead, just use the good ‘ol fierce
(T) attack to despose of your orc infestation problem.
Don’t even bother with using your arrows. Just use this time to get a
better feel of how combo attacks function. If you get surrounded or
find yourself low on life, just run around to the back of the tomb.
Scout the area for life potions because there is a good chance some
orcs have dropped a few. If there are no life potions, just continue
to run around, dodging enemy attacks until your buddies in The
Fellowship defeat some orcs, and a few potions DO drop.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
Soon, the floor will rumble, and a Cave Troll will lumber in. He
doesn’t look too happy. Now for the fun part . . .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
*****************
BOSS - CAVE TROLL
*****************
Part I - The Club
Okay, the Cave Troll will come straight for you. I’ll give you a tip -
MOVE! You can’t parry his giant club that he is so fond of swinging.
So, you can use one of three methods to beat him:
First Method:
Use the rest of the members of The Fellowship to your advantage. Let
them handle things for a while. Run away from the Cave Troll
momentarily, letting him attack someone else. (There is no one else
to protect here - just yourself.) When the Cave Troll swings his
club, there will be a moment when hi pauses to pick up his weapon
again. In this moment, run in behind the Cave Troll and slap him
with a fierce (T) attack. Be careful not to get in front of him.
Gimli won’t be damaged too badly, but still, that club can really
smart!
Second Method:
Attack him head-on (if you’re brave and can time it right). After he
swings his club, dash up and hit him with ONE fierce (T) attack. Then
run away quickly because he will swing his club at you. Be careful to
only tap the (T) button ONCE when attack him this way because if you
tap it two or more times, you will perform two quick swings that leave
you vulnerable to a blow from his club - and you WILL get smashed
(ouch!).
Third Method:
When you fight the Cave Troll, use the L2 button to jump back. That
is, run into him, deal two fierce blows, then jump back. The fierce
blows will interrupt the troll's attack, and jumping back will make
him just narrowly miss (and often take out any enemies that were
creeping up on you). Repeat. He'll go down fast. I've yet to try and
combo the guy. (Special thanks to Michael Mittag for this method.)
Since Gimli is all about muscle, this part will pass pretty quickly
(5-6 hits).
Just continue using one of the above methods, ignoring the rest of
the orcs in the tomb. However, some orcs will drop life potions
periodically, so keep your eyes open for them. Try and pick up a
life potion before the Cave Troll’s life drops by 1/3 (trust me -
you’ll need it) because when that happens . . .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
The Cave Troll trades his club for a Chain Whip. Gimli will then leap
up on a ledge.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part II - The Chain Whip
Okay, get ready because this part of the fight is LONG with Gimli.
Just think of it as an exercise in patience . . .
You have a very limited space to move here. But make the most of it.
There are two sections to this ledge: a left portion & a right
portion (great names, huh?). On each of these sections stand three
pillars which you will use for defense.
After he whips
his chain, step out slightly from behind the pillar and throw your
axes at him.
Note: Since Gimli is slow at hurling axes, expect to only be able to
throw one at a time. If you’re lucky, you can launch two
without getting smacked by the chain, but if you try this,
chances are you’ll eat some chain.
After throwing your axe, get behind the pillar again. But be warned:
the pillars will eventually break, leaving you open to attack. If
this happens, move to another pillar. If you find yourself in the
unfortunate situation where ALL of the pillars are broken, run around
and wait for the Cave Troll to whip his chain (away from you!). In
the brief moment that he retracts his weapon, throw an axe (again
probably no more than one at a time - two if you’re brave) at him.
Repeat this process.
Now, from time to time, a pesky orc will make it his goal in life to
annoy you by jumping up on the ledge and attacking you. Get rid of
him with fierce (T) attacks. Sometimes, the orc will drop “full life”
potions.
So, if you find yourself running low on throwing axes, don’t worry,
just run to the end of the right portion of the ledge. There you will
find a pack of hurling axes happily waiting there for you. Pick them
up and fire away. Oh, and the pack will periodically reappear.
Another Strategy:
If you stand near a pillar, the chain won't hit you. So you can keep
standing beside a pillar and throw axes at the troll while he keeps
bashing his chain. If you do this, the troll drops around the same
time that you run out of pillars. (Special thanks to Michael Mittag
for this strategy.)

CUTSCENE:
A summary of some events from the film The Fellowship Of The Rings
plays. Aragorn explains that Moria was a dark journey for all of them.
Gandalf falls into darkness in Moria. There is a brief (and I mean
BRIEF) section showing Lady Galadriel from Lothlórien. Then, it cuts
to Amon Deep where the Uruk-Hai attack, and Frodo runs off into the
bushes. Aragorn says that Frodo carries the fate of them all, and that
you must defend him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, this mission is LONG. You have two things to keep track of here:
Frodo's Life Meter (top right-hand corner of screen)
Defeating 75 Uruk-Hai (an Uruk-Hai meter is next to Frodo's)
If Frodo's life meter depletes, you will fail the mission, so you must
move quickly through this mission, taking out any and all Uruk-Hai
along the way.
----------
AS ARAGORN
----------
Part I - Hilltop
Right away, about 16 Uruk-Hai will bombard you. Thank goodness Legolas
and Gimli are there to help out. Use combo attacks and take out the
charging Uruk-Hai. The Uruk-Hai meter should read about 59 when you
defeat all the enemies in this section.
Note: Don't constantly worry about what number the Uruk-Hai meter
says. Just use it as a guide for how close you are to
completing the level. (The closer it gets to "0", the closer
you are to the end of the mission.)
Don't forget to run up the stone steps and grab the experience block
in the treasure chest.
Okay, running forward and on to the next area, you will be greeted by
two Uruk-Hai and one archer. Dispose of the attacking Uruk-Hai first
and the archer last.
Note: You will see Uruk-Hai running through the trees from time to
time. Unless they jump out of trees or fire arrows at you,
you cannot hit them, and they can't hit you. So don't worry
about them.
With Aragorn, archers will die with 5-6 arrows. Be careful, though,
because the archers' arrows will sometimes cause fires. Obviously,
avoid the fires at all costs or they will gladly suck all your life
away very efficiently.
With all the Uruk-Hai here defeated, move to the right to see a . . .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
Lurtz (the Big Baddie) will bark orders to "Find the Halfling!" (He
means Frodo.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
PART II - Arches & Archers
In this new section, Gimli and Legolas have conveniently left you to
battle alone (hmmmmm . . .). But you will hear Legolas say: "We must
defeat these Uruk-Hai in order for Frodo to escape!"
Right away, one Uruk-Hai will come down from the left to play. Tell
him to go away. Take out the 3 archers perched around the stone
arches in the distance with you arrows.
As you're disposing of the archers, 2 more Uruk-Hai will leap out and
run at you. Make them eat steel. If there are any archers left after
this, shoot them with arrows because once you get closer to the stone
arches, one more Uruk-Hai will leap out from the right and start
whacking away at you.
Note: There is a treasure chest full of arrows on the left side of the
path by the tree. Pick them up if you need them.
Now, run down through the arches. The camera will shift. Turn left
and run up to the top of the arches to pick up an experience block in
another treasure chest.
Some Uruk-Hai will run up on the arches and attack you. Use arrows to
fend them off before they get to you or just take them out with combo
attacks (I recommend combo attacks). Make your way back down the stone
arches to the forest floor and run to your right, down the path to find
3 Uruk-Hai slashing at you.
Move on down the forest path. The camera will shift again and you will
be staring at 3 archers. But, there is a little rock wall - it's your
friend here. Use it for cover as they fire at you. Wait until the
archers fire their arrows, then step out from behind the wall, shooting
arrows back. Focus on defeating one archer at a time as this will make
it easier. Be sure to get behind the wall periodically - unless you
want to get pelted by raining arrows. On the other side of the wall is
a treasure chest full of arrows. Restock. Move on.
In the next open area, about 3 Uruk-Hai will run out of the trees, but
be careful here because more enemies will soon filter out of the forest,
giving you about 9 Uruk-Hai in all to deal with. Oh, and don't forget
the annoying archer up on the rock hitting you with arrows. Take him
out with your own arrows.
Move on to see . . .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
More Uruk-Hai running through the forest.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to the action. Three archers will be perched in the forest.
Quickly get behind another conveniently placed rock wall, and use it as
a shield. This can get pretty annoying because the archers shoot their
arrows, surrounding you with a circle of flames. Stay away from the
fire. When you can, shoot the archers and just wait for the fire to
fizzle out. When it is safe, move on to your right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
Frodo will be hiding behind a tree, while Uruk-Hai warriors run past,
with absolutely NO clue he is there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
PART III - Courtyard Ruins
Looking ahead, you will see a sort of courtyard, and one archer ready
to attack. If you have enough arrows left, use them to defeat him from
a great distance. Run down to where he was (before he bit it). The
camera will shift, and you will be in the courtyard ruins. About 3
Uruk-Hai will run up some stairs and attack you. Dispose of them.
Note: Before running down the stairs, look at the wall. There is a
sort of doorway with some vines covering it. Run over to it
and break the vines with about 2-3 fierce (T) attacks. Run
inside to find a teasure chest with an experience block.
(Thanks to Will Steal and Jakob Parsons for this one.)
Dash down the steps to the lower portion of the courtyard. You will be
greeted by more angry Uruk-Hai and 2 archers (you must use your arrows
to defeat these archers).
Move on to the left and down some more steps. You will hear Legolas
shout "Aragorn!" And Gimli and Legolas will rejoin you. Take care of
any remaining Uruk-Hai and run toward the bridge.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli will dash onto the bridge and fight some
Uruk-Hai.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
PART IV - The Bridge
Beat up as many Uruk-Hai as fast as you can here. Your Uruk-Hai Meter
should be getting really close to zero by now. Check and make sure
that Frodo still has some life 'cause you don't want him to die. Combo
attacks are your friend here, and so is a full skill meter. To beat
this section, defeat enough Uruk-Hai to bring your count down to "0".
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
A few Uruk-Hai will chase after Frodo, but luckily Legolas launches
arrows at them, allowing the Hobbit a free route of escape.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, you just have to defeat any Uruk-Hai that come at you. Boromir's
(one of The Fellowship) life meter will appear in the upper right-hand
corner of the screen. Just survive until Boromir's life is depleted.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
Sadly, Boromir dies. That nasty Lurtz did it! Go get him!

BOSS - LURTZ
************
Note: If you die here, just continue, and you will automatically
restart from this point.
Part I - Bows & Arrows
Lurtz will fire flaming arrows at you. Dodge them and fire some arrows
back at him. He will fire 3 three arrows successively and then pause.
Use this time to pelt him with your arrows. You can probably get off
about 2-3 shots at once.
Periodically, throughout the battle an annoying Uruk-Hai will attack
you as well. Be ready for that. But, the plus side here is that
sometimes he will drop "full life" potions. That is good.
After Lurtz takes about 5-6 arrows . . .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CUTSCENE:
Lurtz will trade his bow for a sword.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
PART II - Swords & Statues
The camera will shift to a strange angle, giving you a limited view of
the arena. Be careful because Lurtz is FAST! He will dash over to
you (he likes to sneak up from behind) and efficiently make ground
round out of you if you're not careful.
So, there are six states around the perimeter of the arena. Run over
to one and try to get Lurtz to attack you. Lurtz's sword will then
get lodged in the statue. While he is trying to pull it out, take
this opportunity to slap him with 3-4 fierce (T) attacks.
Be warned, though . . . the statue will soon break, and Lurtz will
continue his pursuit of you. When that happens, just run to another
statue and repeat the process.
Note: If another annoying Uruk-Hai decides to join in the fun, just
hit him with fierce (T) attacks. The best time to do this is
when Lurtz gets his sword stuck in one of the statues.
